I made a batch of this last month, can't wait 2 sample it.I used the Coopers kit and a can of Blackrock liquid malt extract instead of BE2,it was almost twice the price of my usual kit & kilo brews.I've never had any cider taste in any of my Coopers brews
I'm new to home brewing and have done this kit using brew enhancer 2. At 4:30 you mention that there is no apple/cider taste but mine does, why is this do you think ?
@PeiHomeBrewer No table sugar at all, I batch primed the bottles with brewing sugar. I can't remember what temp the fermentation was at. My first ever brew was the Aussie lager, using 50% light dried malt and 50% brewing sugar and it has a very similar taste too.
@MrEverready636 I am at a loss to explain it, other than too high of a fermentation temperature. That's Cooper's yeast can be quite fruity if brewed above, say, 23c.
I've just made this kit with Coopers Brew Enhancer 2. Do you think adding an additional 500gms of LDME and dry hopping some cascade hops would work well? Cheers
Are you going to do any blade reviews? I'm not that enthralled with the Feathers. Yes, they're sharp, but they don't work well on my skin. I think maybe too sharp. Sharks, Derby and Astra are the ticket for me.
@nige4958 I might eventually, but I am only on my second blade right now. The first one I tried was Astra, and that worked well for me. I am using a Derby now, and I don't see much of a difference.
I made my first batch ever from this and was really happy with the results. It fermented like crazy for 2 days and the carbonation was already there 3 days after priming. At 32 IBU and 5,3% abv it tasted great. Cheers from Sweden!
@MrMansfield1 I'm not sure. You might have to look around a bit. The only Red Ale I've seen here is Brew Canada Red Ale, but I don't know if you can get it in the States. I doubt it would be much like Killian's.
I've been drinking this beer for several weeks now. It's my fav at the moment. You can chug these beers real easy. But last night I steeped 2 pounds of 2-row and a pound of crystal 60, added cascade hops at 15 minutes left, and added a Cooper's English Bitter. It already has the bitterness, so I didn't have to do a full 1 hour boil. It smells great from the airlock. I can't wait to try it.
Agree totally, clear clean pleasant beer but disappointing on the lack of flavoring and aroma hops. I splashed it with my "hops waters" and yes, it tasted best with cascades added for flavoring and aroma. This one and the Coopers Wheat give the best "clean slate" for experimenting with different hops. Cheers!
Beer looks like it has a good carbonation to it. Have to say though I love the glass never seen a Newcastle glass like that - I have one but its a MUG. BTW you kinda sounds like a Caper bye
Looks like you made a good Au Pale Ale. Dry, may be fruity, no aroma or flavor hops and finishes slightly bitter. I don't think that the sugar is a problem being it's supposed to be dry. Normally it is an all malt beer but sometimes extract needs some help to ferment out. I'm starting to think the ale/lager yeast blend that Coopers uses is that the lager yeast is added just to dry it out.
@PeiHomeBrewer I bottle 750 ml too for my home brew but they are 29 mm caps with the big bottles they look like champaign bottles but you can cap them. pretty cool if you ask me.
@ChadzBeerReviews He's just sour that he couldn't brew a Coopers kit properly if a gun was put to his head. Any moron can brew a beer kit, TSA can't. I guess that says a lot for morons.
I have this sitting in my fermenter. Done the same way with the BE2. But I added a bunch of Golding hops boiled for 20 minutes and added to the wort. Plus a pile more dry hopped. Its ready to bottle. Just gotta get the time.
@weirdbeer me too!! its been in the f.v for a week now i added 600g be2 ang a morgans goldings hop bag i'm giving it another week in the f.v. to clear i added an extra pack of yeast i had from a draught kit. i think this i
Perhaps it's the video, but your Cooper's Australian Pale Ale appears to be darker than mine. Mine is truly "pale". And yes, it's pretty good.

@MrEverready636 Have you used any large amounts of table sugar or dextrose added? Also, what temperature are you brewing at?

@ PeiHomeBrewer, Thanks for the reply sounds very good. Do you have any info on what type of beer kit would be comparable to Killians Irish Red
Thanks
