I guess I'm predisposed to prefer the Carpenters version, since I heard it so often on the radio when I was a kid. But also like King's rendition very much. Seems less reflective and more matter-of-fact:) --
As a cancer survivor I feel this epitomizes my feelings. Melancholy song yet encouraging. This is the first time I've heard Carole King's rendition. I love it.
@screenwitch i definitely agree. I loved Karen Carpenter until I experienced some of these rites of passage myself. Still love Karen, but Carole brings a bittersweet quality to it; and the sparse production makes even more memorable.
I listened first to Carpenters growing up, but King grew on me, and on this song definitely has the spirit of a break up, unlike Richard Carpenter's arrangement. The album version is just her on keyboards and her husband, then with a woodwind section at the very end. Almost painful in its sadness.
I prefer the Carpenters version. I had always know this was Carole King's song, but as she said to the Carpenters upon hearing their version, "You make my version sound like a demo!"
been listening and singing along with the carpenters version for ages but it's only now i got to know that carole king is the original singer of this song. is she also the composer? the video is great. touching. can't help shedding tears on the sunset frame and onwards. thanks radixker for posting this video. you should be commercially producing mtv's if not yet. cheers!
It's Going to Take Some Time" is a song written by Carole King and Toni Stern for her 1971 album, Music. It was redone by the Carpenters in 1972 for their fourth album, A Song for You. According to Richard Carpenter, he had to choose which songs he wanted to remake, and there was a big pile of 7" singles he had to listen to. When he encountered "It's Going to Take Some Time", he knew it would be a hit, and recorded it. It peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100.
As one who loves the Carpenters version and didn't know that this version existed, I can say that it's going to take some time to get used to this one, but I think I will :)
I loved seeing and hearing this. You have very good taste in both music and photography. I shall be viewing this again and again. God Bless Carole King, I was raised on her music as a child by my mom, who is now a classical accompanist on piano at the University of Arizona.
Thank you for a good video!

This seems to be the version from Music with added drums, guitar strings and pedal steel.
I like it, is it someone adding these to the record, or an official release?

Lovely. Break up recovery song. Better than Carpenters

Lovely. The perfect breakup song for women or men. Disliked the Carpenter version, to "pop".
