@mallymahalik Another good seasoning technique to use is ITALIAN DRESSING. You need to let the turkey marinate overnight in about two bottles of dressing (you should inject it for the best results). The taste will be AWESOME the meat will be full of flavors and so so so moist!!
ooohmyygooood that flavor injector (as i found out it was called) must be absolutely amazing! I've NEVER seen that here in sweden and it's so hard to make the whole turkey/chiken juicy. If I can't find one here, i'll order one from the states or some place that have it!
I don't mess around on turkey day! I make sure there is good bread at the table, and make turkey sammiches on the spot! The white meat is never so tender. : D
That looks great Hilah. I really like the apples, onions and parsleyin the cavity. The butter and chicken broth injection into the breast really does help; keep the meat moist. Thank you very much. I also like to add a smokey flavor to my turkey by wrapping bacon around the legs and breast.
When you started fingering it, I *did* consider calling PETA, but I figured what the hey, it was already dead anyway. LOL
You've tempted me to do a real bird this time. For the past few years, being single, I've done the little 3 pound Butterball boneless turkey boob roasts (which are really nice), but I miss having a carcass to pick apart later. I think I'ma doin' it. So where does one get one of those giant hypodeemic nerdles?
Just touching bases again. Sho 'nuff, as turkey day approached, I didn't even have to go looking for the injector needle, it was on one of the end cap displays. And I picked up a 12 1/2 lb Butterball. Replaying the vid now and taking notes, so I don't have to look it up on T Day, and looking forward to the fun of doing a whole bird again.
Ha! I know I will. I'll probably even make a video of the "production" for grins, and if it turns out decent I might offer it as a response to this one. :-)
Hey, Sweetyhearty, you are fantastic and playfully entertaining no matter the season! That bird looked great!
I am doing a 7.5 lb. turkey breast (w/ribcage) tomorrow. I like turkey sammiches all year long!
I have become a huge fan of using a $20 digital thermometer w/probe. Stick the probe in the thickest part of the white meat of the bird, then wait for the alarm to go off. : )
Looks absolutely great! Halloween and Thanksgiving are my favorite hollidays of the year for sure. The leftover turkey can last for at least a week afterwards. That's always a good thing, and when you figure in the sweet potatoes and other items,it's a win-win all the way 'round!...hehe! You just can't beat good eats like this...
@da959 Thanks! Yeah, after I made this one and pulled all the meat off, I packed it up into ziploc bags and froze it for making potpie and soup later. But I still have some in the fridge for salads and sandwiches this week!
@hilahcooking Ahhh, turkey sandwiches..I love them when you fry the turkey for a bit in some butter.I gives it an awesome flavor! Maybe you could show us all how to make a turkey potpie. I'm always up for what to do with the leftover turkey.. Now i can't wait for Thanksgiving to get here!
Hi Hilah! Great to see the first thing ya did was get rid of that dumb pop up thingy. Two thumbs up girl! I also remove the plastic truss even if they say not to. I swear I can taste the plastic when I don't.
May I suggest ya take a stick of softend butter and mix your under skin seasonings & hurbs in it THEN place it under the skin. BTW, ya can get WAY back and under it with your hand if ya work at it 'cause that skin will strech a lot more than ya think it would before it tore on ya.
Sometimes I don't think at all and you should see some of the sad, total wrecks that have come out of my kitchen, not to mention other things I've worked on in my house. HA!
Besides Hilah, Your turkey came out lookin' just beautiful and I bet ya it tasted just as good as it looked too. YUM! Next time, send me an invite y'all. :-)
I am a vegetarian, and yet I watch all of your meat-related videos too. I'm always afraid of missing out on your funny addiitions. While I don't actually eat meat, I can enjoy the playful banter while someone else prepares it...right? :)
@hilahcooking The idea behind it is pretty much the same as the US Thanksgiving: giving thanks for another year, plentiful harvest, etc. The date bounced around a little bit over the years (as did the date of US Thanksgiving) until in 1957 it was officially set as the second Monday in October.
@hilahcooking - Hilah, I assume you discard the stuffing veggies or do you use them in your out-of-bird prepared stuffing? Also, I prefer the Butterball Smoked turkeys. Would there be any differences in preparing it this way? Thanks for the great video!
@fitzgeraldmw Yeah, discard them or use them when you're making stock from the turkey bones (that's what I do). I've never tried the smoked turkey - I assume that means it's already cooked and all you do is heat it? I'm not sure. Butterball turkeys are already injected, though, so you'd skip that step for sure.
You got my like and favorite back on the new video. I just didn't want you to think people don't notice how hard you work to deliver a quality product. That's dedication, and you're doing a great job!
@Jafromobile Thanks for noticing. We moved over to a whole new production workflow this season and while it's great for the most part, we've been having trouble with the sound slipping on YouTube.

Thanx for the vid.
Hey your should try the Lazy Carnivore method of turkey cooking.
1. Buy a ham that'll fit in the turkey
2. Put the ham in the Turkey.
3. Put the turkey in the roasting pan, breasts DOWN, arse up. ;)
4. Put the pan in a 350 oven, untill the drumsticks start to fall apart. Or use a meat thermometer, or proper cooking times from the internet.
5. Eat the bird, or the ham. And tomorrow you have 2 kinds of meat for sandwiches..FYI the drippings make the best gravy!
