One of the best soundtracks EVER!!! Jan Hammer is just frickin´ awesome!!! And this track represents Miami Vice so perfectly!! Always fitting for every scene of the series!!
When I saw this episode and heard this music, I realized that this was not going to be another TV show. It surpassed everytthing on TV in the 1980s and redefined TV in so many ways, you can't count them all.
Terrific tune, and terrific episode. I watch "Evan" every day,and Miami Vice is practically the only TV I watch. I was around the first time in the mid 80's when it was out, only when you get older you start to appreciate how magnificent this show was. William Russ and Al Israel were outstanding in this episode.
A favorite episode of mine. I actually liked and pitied Evan, mostly for his snarky attitude which was just a masquerade for the pain and guilt he felt. "What it is, Blood?"
Here's the thing about this track uniquely: it still holds up perfectly. If I played it for someone who'd never heard it and told them it was off a movie soundtrack that came out last week, they'd believe me.
I write through music, like I'll see a movie in my head and then write what I see, and at the 1:30 mark this song puts so many different possible images in my head it's unlike anything else I've ever heard.
I've been listening to all of the Complete Collection tracks posted on YouTube by Markus (thank you Markus!) for several months now. I have to say... this is the finest overall track by Hammer in the Miami Vice series (of course, it helps if you know the story behind the music : ) Just my humble opinion
This is a TV show that got everything right- great cast, great music, great script, great location...I would argue this show is one of the reasons Dexter is so popular..
I had the Soundtrack to Miami Vice back in the mid 80s and almost played this track to death whilst driving my Spitfire with the top down! Probably my favourite Jan Hammer track of all times and a superb episode too.
I don't know if the episode Evan would be half the episode it is without this music. But as it stands, it's one of the best Vice episodes of all time.
@MintythecatIsABeast Great intro. I am really talking about a deeper subtextual connection with Sonny and the story of Freed. I think Jan's music has a way of supporting a scene with music that synergies into a mood.
@ObltKG4 arguably we could pertain that Jan just had a knack for capturing the spirit of the screen the music was developed for and we love him for that.
To me, I am listening out often for the DX7 Synthesiser he used - it is really hard to program this thing!
Intro sounds more like science fiction than MV.

One of the great instrumentals of all time. Such a sad ending... My heart goes out to Evan. What choice did he have ???
Peace All.

It's so epic in 'Evan' when this starts playing as Tubbs and Crockett are waiting at the dock for the weapons dealer to arrive.

@Maharv55 Yeah and the camera kinda circles around Crockett and Tubbs... it's definitely one of the best scenes in the series

One of the best Vice Moments. When Crockett runs into Evan at Guzman's house and Evan plays it cool: "What it is bro?"
