The Darren Shan Saga was great with its mix of horror and fiction and there were too many things that couldn't be shown or put into a movie like all the horror elements are a little too graphic for a movie even for a restricted one. You can't really put into a movie all the emotions that Darren felt without a narration movie which aren't the best ones in my opinion. This movie came out when people were getting tired of the vampire madness so that didn't help the movie either. PS Good Review!
I think the people who comment mean things about peoples videos or about people in a video is very mean and wrong! You should back off and let people express themselves! How would you like it if someone did that to you?
You are totaly right I was really excited when i heard the movie was coming and i loved the series (I read it at least 10 times and it never got old)but i HATED the movie and want to brutaly murder the mother fu**ers who ruined it for the world
Overall i think they killed the series....too much was given away and the time they spent making monkey girl they couldve spent putting in R.V. and Sam. Atleast Sam because he is the entire reason Darren drank blood in the first place.
They made the movie WAY too P.G. The gore in some of the battles will be completely gone. They tried to make it like twilight and failed horribly.
I just hope they dont fuck up on Demonata the same way. It should be a horror movie of sorts.
i agree 100% books are awesome.. (yes better than twilight). but they didnt make the movie the way i expected and it makes me upset because now people are probably going to think the books are all dumb like that, but whateve.... lucy hard core cdf fan!
OMG! I read ALL the books when I was in 8th grade. They were amazing! I really don't want to see this movie. I heard that cormac limbs was a girl too....which is kinda lame.
I hated that they made their own scenes witch didnt make any sense, its ok to leave some scenes out, but when they made steve take darrens family, the monkey girl,. i also didnt like that they made every scene so fast. i agree xperpetualmotion that the opening credits, and the start were really good. i have red all the books and they were great!, but i was very dissapointed over the movie. alltough i hope they make a second one :) also that fat fuck desmond tiny sucked
truely spoken. i agree with most of what u said. steve (Josh) couldve been a great steeve. but..and i bet if u switched the actor that playz percy jackson with darren..he might be better. i hated how the steeve and darren issue was portrayed. they should at least try to make it exactly like the books. and sam was his first drink of blood. not a monkey girl
I watched the first 20 minutes of the film earlier and I have to say I was severely dissapointed. I loved the books but hated this. For starters, I don't see why all the actors are American. I believe that the author wished the characters to be Irish like he is. It just felt weird how Americanised this film was. Darren and Steve shouldn't be saying things like 'awesome' and stuff about being in the third grade. Imagine the Harry Potter movies starring Americans, it just wouldn't work.
Gavner was a bloodthirsty warmonger here. I loved his character in the books because he was easygoing and peace loving. His character is the biggest disappointment in many ways.
omg first i love these books! i was actually sad when i read all the books and... i just dont know how there going to do the ending and i dont know if the big scene with mr crepsly is going to be the same as you said... i just dont know if the way they started this is going to flow with the rest.
This didn't appear in my subscription box for some reason :-s
I havn't read the books but they sound good . . . it's a shame that the film wasn't so great. Don't think I'll be seeing it. I tend to be dissappointed with most book adaptations, even when they're actually good movies . . . apart from the Watchmen film, which was obsessively close to the book.
I saw the old b+w film 'Brief Encounters' a couple of weeks ago, and that was really good.
Another thing is that we never really get into details on the lives of vampires such as what they can and cannot do until vampire mountain which is book 4.
I enjoyed the film, it was better than what i expected which is coming from a fan of the series. I agree and disagree with you in some points. In the film it is mention that Crepsley, Gavren, and Vincent created the method not to kill while drinking blood, but the plot of vampires not killing and vampanese killing while drinking is still there that is not changed. Why can't Mr. Tall not be asian? It is never stated what he is in the book only that he is tall and Tiny's son.
I think even you would have a hard time trying to make the Cirque Du Freak series into a good film, don't you think so? I really enjoyed His Dark Materials, but I daren't say I could produce a movie that reflects the books to people in general. Even I wouldn't be completely satisfied with the final product.
I saw Citizen Kane recently, and I really enjoyed it. Way different from Cirque Du Freak, though! : )
Yeah, that's a good point. They did manage to make an awesome manga based on the book, but I guess that doesn't necessarily mean it could be a good movie.
i think you're too nice maybe i'm too much of a book purist byt it was so silly and so wrong and not like the books. i totally agree with mr tiny mr tiny you should look at him and thinks he's pleasent and then the moment you really start to look at him you or he starts to talk you realise the true psycotic evil that is mr tiny and he was never on the side of the vampaneeze. the whole point was he was neutral he didn't care about either side and also the little people were so stupid
i agree with a majority of your peeves from this movie especially by having crepsley being one of the first to not kill when drinking. but like yyou said at least there is a movie and i loved the fight scenes. at least those made the movie awesome. im just hoping that if they make a sequal it will be more bloody and true to the actual story because this fist one didnt seem to carry alot of it
The movie was a major disapointment. CORMAC was not a woman, there was no monkey girl, and harkat wasnt introduced until the 4th book. Darren shan would be rolling in his grave if he had one.
yea i have read the all the books i kinda liked sam and i missed that they didnt put him in cuase he was one of the key roles for darren cause sam was the first person he drank from to save his memories which would of helped and i dont like how they did the vampense hes not purple and does get killed with in seconds i think they should of done two books at once and it would be better but other then that it was a ok book to movie film
I read the books before i saw the movie (obviously) and i went into the movie thinking it would be completely disasterous, but i was pleasantly surprised. No it wasnt completely the same, yes John C. Riely was an Odd choice for Mr. Crepsley, but I think if you allow youself a gap between wanting the movie to be accurate and wanting the movie to be separate enough that the books are still interesting to read, i think you've found your balance.
im not a big reader...okay i dont read at all! but actually..you maked me want to read this XD and the movie i thaught it was good and humorous at the beginning but at the end it just turns out to be kind of weird and all...it would be better like more gore and like idk...oh and the end is like...WTF? i was in the theatre and i shout aww come on! XD everybody started to laugh...yeah you had to be there...anyways good review :) i maybe going to read the books!
I haven't seen the movie or read the book and I haven't seen any good movies... mostly because I don't have much money but my best friend saw Agora and said it was a good movie...
My god you are spot on with this review. i think what they did in the books was unexceptable! they changed it so much that it is now IMPOSSIBLE to follow the books now.
only part i liked, Harkat raising his hand to vote Darren into the Cirque (very end, but the voting i didn't like)

(Differences part 2)
* Mister Tiny is a medium height, bald, fat person in a suit, opposed to the small, average weight yellow rain coat wearing Desmond Tiny in the books
* Murlough becomes a little person
* Harkat has a habit of biting someones hand
* Although the little people have hoods, they never wear them
* Little people have brown eyes
* There is no little person giving out gifts at half time
* They missed out Darren's freinds Alan and Tommy
* Larten Crepsly has a full set of hair
hype1998 2 years ago 3
(Warning, do not read unless you have read all the books)
The differences between book and movie:
* There is a monkey girl (Rebecca)
* They missed out Han's Hands, Sam, R.V. and Debbie
* Darren meets Steve before book 8
* Vampaneze aren't purple
* They call Lefty Harkat before book 4
* Cormac Limbs is a girl
* Steve captures Rebecca, and Darrens family which does't make sense because Steve is supposed to marry Annie
* They don't go back to Mr. Crepsly's home town, resulting in no sewer scene

desmond tiny didnt have the pocket watch i think that he fliped between his fingers (correct me if im wrong its been a while since i read the books)
