For me, this is the 2nd best performance of all-time in the history of weightlifting, bested only by Suleymanoglu's efforts the day before. Legendary stuff right here.
Whoa... Abadjiev looks young in this video! still absolutely no celebration or display of emotion when one of his lifters makes a world record... just has that disgusted look etched permanently on his face.
Look at the vertical jump at 2:48 more demonstration of fabulous leg power. Furosemide, a diuretic to make weight, was the transgression. The only physical stats listed are weight and age. Too bad. Height to weight ratio is interesting too.
Certainly this has to rank up there with one of the greatest performances in weightlifting history. Maybe it would help if we translated it to pounds. Remember, Guenchev was lifting here in the lightweights: that's a bodyweight of 148 lbs. He snatched a WR 352.5 and clean & jerked a WR 446 lbs. Unfortunately he was disqualified for drugs, so it meant nothing. Keep in mind that the 352 snatch was the weight the immortal Rigert missed 3 times at Munich '72, weighing 50 lbs. more!
Wow! This bloke has such great technique. That's one of the fastest cleans I have ever seen.I think this was the swansong for the Bulgarian team, next came all the drug disqualifications and I think Abidjaev suffered a heart attack. He looks like such a fun loving bloke but there is no denying his successes.

Why did they take Guenchev out of the middleweight class and put him in this class and took Petrov off?
Wookie325 3 years ago
Head fucking, the Bulgarians were the masters of messing with they athlete's heads.
FUZZYisBIG 3 years ago
I think Petrov got hurt, and the Bulgarians thought they'd have a better chance in 67.5's.
Petrov was incredible.
NicolletIslandSlim 3 years ago
Yeah he was. lt's always nice seeing weightlifting competitions at these olympics. 200.5kgs for Petrov? l don't think l could deadlift that.

duh VArbanov & Gydikov 382.5, 377.5 totals versus Guenchev 370
