This was the year... no doubt if they could have just squeezed this out against the lightning they would have taken the cup, the west was weaker than the east this season, and the flyers line up was stacked with future hall of famers...their defense was just decimated by injuries (hence sami kapanen playing D)

@mckendo83 : more true words are seldom spoken. Game 7 of this series still keeps me up at night sometimes. Our offense just could not get going and the D was indeed decimated without Desjardins back there running the show. that was an enormous loss for the team and Primeau put them on his shoulders but could only do so much. We would have had the cup through the lockout season too... ugh. Instead a garbage expansion team like tampa bay gets to relish lord stanley's goodness. Someday...

Where did someone here that "the word" was that Gomez wants to come here? From what i've read online he's ready to bolt to the west coast. I've also read that Buffalo will re-sign either Drury or Briere, most likely Drury.

A healthy Flyers team wins that series... there's no question. Remember, we were so decimated on D that Kapanen was a regular top 4 for us by the end of the series. When you have to switch a forward to defense because you don't have enough defensemen, you're in trouble. The Flyers gave it everything they had, a truly valiant effort, even though they were severely undermanned... it is for that reason that the 2003-2004 team will always be remembered fondly in this town.

Powerplay goals were fatal, I agree. But the loss of key defensemen was worse. We all know that the Flyers have ALWAYS sucked on the powerplay. The Flyers pressed the play in the offensive end for that entire series, they had a couple key turnovers they resulted in easy Tampa goals (LeCavlier- Game 3 breakaway goal). Tampa capitalized on key mistakes, but alot of those mistakes had to do with injuries. If game 7 was in our house, you can almost guarantee a trip to the finals in 04.

I couldn't agree more with that. Word is that Gomez is number 1 on the Flyers list, but Briere, Drury or Gomez would fit perfectly. Once these young guys gel, we will be dangerous again.

We outplayed Tampa in that series and did EVERYTHING right. We had multiple injuries on the blueline also. If it wasn't for that fucking goaltender (Nickalie-I can not spell his name) , we may have hoisted the cup that season. You fans come out year after year and that is what makes our fans one of the top fan bases in hockey. LETS GO FLYERS!!

What are you talking about? There was one and only one reason why Tampa Bay won that series, special teams. Tampa Bay scored like 7 power play goals compared to the Flyers 1. That's how you lose series. Fan bases don't matter, Tampa Bay beat the Flyers, plain and simple, now move on and focus on next year. Lots of great FA's out there like Scott Gomez, Daniel Briere, Chris Drury, Sheldon Souray, the Flyers need to sign a few of these guys.

Esche wasnt the problem, we had no scoring on D...Johnson had a broken hand and Dejardins was out for almost the whole playoffs..so we didnt have as much scoring as we needed from the D
