Some very important parts are missing - Grand Inquisitor and the story abouth the captain and his dieing son..But all in all - not a bad adaptation. There is another adaptation from 1958, in english, and it's awful, in my opinion. This one is sooooo much better.
There is a new adaptation of "The Brothers Karamazov" of 2009 - mini-series about 50 minutes each part. TV-version has 8 parts and DVD-version has 12 parts. I have avi-files of DVD-versions but, unfortunatly, I can't find English subtitles for this film though I know they're exist somewhere in the world, because I've seen DVD release with English subtitles in one of the stores.
@Jitpring This is the Soviet adaptation. The main religion of the soviet union was Atheism.....And through soviet films, the Soviets would ridicule religious ideas...the Inquisitor scene was cut out, becuase the atheist government at the time would not allow it.
Thank you so much for posting this beautiful adaptation of such a beloved novel! I was truly hoping to see a febrile Ivan recount his disturbed vision of the Grand Inquisitor to a devastated Alyosha - but that would have been asking too much! Thank you again!
@TheaTisMetamorphosis Agree. Although Dostojevski wrote in the prologue that the story is a dedication to Alyosha as his hero, mine is definitely Ivan!
I like it so far but I'm struggling with some ambivalence: is the movie really good or do I just like it because I read the book?

No Grand Inquisitor scene? But Dostoevsky meant the book to be a refutation of everything Ivan says in that chapter!

Thanks for the comment. I just worked over the subtitles (time code, synchronization etc). The translation is not mine. ;)

I've just started reading this novel, and the acting here is as engrossing as the work that provided the inspiration. Thank you and please post more!
