  • I do very much miss Tom Baker as the Doctor. He really was amazing.

  • Love that control room!

  • Wonderful! That pat was so cute; I totally ship Doctor/TARDIS now. :P This story sounds really interesting. Shame it's not on DVD yet.

And I can't get enough Tom Baker, or is it just me?

  • @rockisheaven :-) NO it's not just you!! 1974-81 Saturdays were joyful ones!

  • @rockisheaven It's been on DVD for a year and change, it's called "The Deadly Assassin"

  • this show used to scare me when iwas a kid...its still trippy now lol

  • 'We can tell it's a type 40 by the noise it makes. Gallafrey will rise againg and take it's rightful place in the universe.

  • Yup, during Tom baker's reign as The Doctor, he "discovered" the older, wooden paneled control room at the other end of the TARDIS, one that he had forgotten about. Funny thing is, the door to it opens to the normal outside door. Is Trans-dimensional engineering grand.

  • I love that old wood paneled control room for the Tardis.

  • I think TARDISes are alive and semiconscious, so it's possible for beings like Time Lords to distinguish between different types via a psychic signature or something.

  • I loled so much when He patted the TARDIS. =)

  • I have watched 'who' since i was 4 in 1975And this scene has always puzzled me.

How can the time lords tell the tardis is a type 40 just by looking at it?-It's disguised as a police box.

  • It's possible that trained individuals (such as the Castellan and the Presidential Guards) are able to see through the Chameleon Circuit, since such things would pose a considerable security issue if they couldn't be identified.

  • I guess it may be somthing to do with it's broken chamelion circuit.

  • @thekroton The TARDIS's Chameleon unit was broken from the start, at least as far as we know. This would be the 'red flag' of not only just what it was but who was inside it.

  • @WatcherPrime It was established later on that the Doctor landed in 1960's England and assumed the form of a Police Box, then it's Chameleon Circuit broke down. The Sixth Doctor managed to "fix" the Circuit, but then re-broke it later on due to the inconvenience of the forms the TARDIS was taking. Since then he's grown fond of the Police Box form and hasn't tried fixing it since.

  • @Vlorsutes Whichever. :P The point is the Police Box has been a calling card of the Doctor among the Time Lords. When it arrives, Chaos follows.

  • I have this on DVD it is one of the BEST stories of the classic series if not THE best.if i had to choose one DVD to have. it would be this one.ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT!!

  • haha got this on dvd its awesome

  • That old fashioned Edwardian Console room was far better then the other control room. Why did they bring back the old gray console room, when it ws such crap. The Edwardian console rocked and suited the Doctor much better.

  • It was felt it was too "static", that is not enough visually going on, the other one had the moving time rotor in the centre for example, whereas this console had a shaving mirror that stayed still. Also the wooden walls would get warped when placed in storage. So they switched back.

But they brought over the scanner "iris" idea, with the shutters opening and closing over the scanner screen.

  • This Doctor Who is the real deal, the definite article you might say!

  • until the time war that is, yuck

  • What I love about this episode is the pure Time-Lordness of it all. EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER is a Time Lord. The good guys are Time Lords, the bad guys are Time Lords, every insignificant character is a Time Lord, it's set on the home-planet of the Time Lords, in the capitol of the Time Lords. Only when they go into the Matrix do we see/hear creatures other than Time Lords.

  • No females though.

  • @darthbandon10 It's odd, yes. Makes me wonder if Romana is wandering around somewhere in between classes at the Academy.

  • @Archivist82 Who knows, maybe Timelord society is patriarchical :p

  • Since everything in the Matrix is a creation of a biological computer built from Time Lord brains, arguably everything seen and heard is filtered by Time Lord thoughts and impressions. So there is still a Time Lord quality too them.

  • @SnakeOnAPlane Which means, the Doctor killed EVERYONE in this episode later on xD

  • yeah i agree, the new doctor has the most abrasive music. this composer was a legend.

  • Everytime I hear the voice over at the last sentence I just keep wanting to say no it ain't.

  • Tom Baker's voice over at the beginning is amazing.

  • hay bbc when is this coming out on dvd, i really want to see "the deadly assassin

  • "The Deadly Assassin" is one of my Top 5 all-time favorite Who episodes...hey Beeb, when can we get a proper DVD release?!

  • This one does look pretty good. I'd love to get a DVD too. I can't find it anywhere yet, nor is the whole thing on youtube :(

  • tombakerrocks #88

  • A fab story this, lots of continuity which relates to the new series, The Doctor's home planet and his enemy The Master. Like all the classic series clips on here so far this was written by Robert Holmes who really knew his way round the format and does four fab episodes here despite the lack of a companion for The Doctor.
