@Rafathaman94 He could have won this match in straight sets if he weren't such a bad closer. He's been in positions to beat Federer and let the oppertunities slip away time and time again. Their match in Doha is the lastest example of his inability to beat Federer when he should. Obviously he has beaten him before, but for the most part Federer dominates their Head-Head.
Remember this match!! and I also remember that the 2nd set point at 5:30 was actually a second serve!! I was like " omg what a serve at such an decisive moment!!! "
@davd1986 yes :S These matches were crucial in his career PLUS US open 2007 against Federer SF he got too many chances ... first set 3/0 ... third set 4/2 40/15 ... AND his grand choking against NADAL and BLAKE 2006 RR matches TMC ... and the one against Roddick 2007 RR match TMC ...
Nadal was very lucky of not facing either Nalbandian or Davydenko at their best in his first couple of french open wins....federer always had to deal with those two!
It's not like Davydenko had a lead and squandered it.
This vid just shows that having a set point against Federer and winning one are just two completely different things. Davydenko had a similar story at the 2006 Australian Open. He had like 10 set points to go 2-1 in sets vs Federer but still couldn't finish it off.
@TheSjeknek THIS IS RG'S SEMIFINAL. SAMPRAS DIDNT KNOW WHAT IS THIS EXCEPT ONCE!AND ROG HAD 4 RG'S FINALS. THAT'S ONE OF 100 REASON THAT THIS DONK IS THE BEST EVER.
He won 2/3 of his previous matches with Federer, and 3/3 with Nadal, won Doha, Shanghai, and ATP Masters Finals. What about those did he typically piss away?
Federer is the king. Rest are trying to get there but untill federer doesn't retire no body will get there such as davydenko, delpotro or even any more there
Will be an interesting FO this year, I wonder if Nadal will be fit or if Rog can defend - he's never played as defending champ before will see how it affects him if at all.
i know......he can hit the ball in any direction whenever he wants!! but if you go to see....almost all russians have gifted Bh's....but Davy's backhand is easily one of the best! But when it comes down to the overall game FEDERER is #1
and at the rate his knees are coming at him, he wont ever be able to
Nadal is a great player, but he doesnt know where his body's limits are
i dun think its a coincidence that right after his best 52 weeks (french, wimby, aussie, world no.1) comes his worst 52 weeks (world no.4 and not a single final in GS)
but to be fair, if thats what it takes to overthrow federer, despite for only less than a year's time, i guess i would have done the same
I remember watching this match live.. davydenko was playing really great yet can't get a set against federer. This match shows how good federer was back then.
i get a feeling that match was a lot closer than the scoreline showed. davydenko is a bit of a choker when he needs to win a big point it seems. if he was able to win the pressure points he would be right up there with the big boys i recon

Five GS matches Davydenko would probably like to have back:
This one
2005 RG SF against Puerta
2006 AO QF against Federer
2007 AO QF agains Haas
2010 AO QF against Fedederer

Against Federer, Davydenko always seems to find a way to snatch defeat at the hands of victory.

to be up a break in all 3 sets and still lose the match

Being the fan of Fedex, I feel like Davy would have had more chances against Nadal in the final in comparison to Roger.

This match was one of the all-time great chokejobs. Federer never got any momentum. Davy just found more ways to lose.

You know, where Davydenko is playing awsome, and Federer is playing poorly, Davydenko is 6-3 4-1 up and loses in 4. Yep.
