Okay, 25 people were killed be lions. Absolutely hunt the rogue lions, but surely not all of the lions are man-eaters. Ghastly as it is and atypical for lions to eat humans, the lions are wild animals after all. Encrouch on their environment, kill of their natural prey etc. and this is inevitable. Starvation could well lead a lion to resort to killing humans.

It is understandable that when these animals kill ones family, one reacts in a certain way. Some people are compassionate conservationists; others do not have the money or luxury to do so, they have to protect their poor families in the land that they were born. As a vegetarian myself, I do not like to see animals or humans get eaten. We are weak physically, but our brains frickin kicks ass. If my baby gets eaten, I would shoot that lion.
Once a lion kills humans and knows that we are easy prey they will continue to kill humans and should be put down. It is common sense. We gotta stay on top of the food chain!!!

And when a lion has killed a human and noticed how easy and un-risky it was, it'll do it again and again and again. If people were armed, lions who attempted to eat humans would either die trying, or even if they succeeded, end up badly hurt so they would never do it again.

It seems a possible solution - it's biodegradeable and you can get varieties which emit a cloud, so can be used against several animals at once. And once a lion views a human as it's prey, that will not change... A lion is interesting to study, I love biology and especially learning about how different lifeforms evolved in different environments, but the value of a lion's life just can't be compared to a human's life. Admittedly I don't know a ton about man-eating lions, but I would think they'd still be too big a risk to allow to live, I do understand your compassion though, I love lions too and wouldn't wanna see any killed, but if they turn man-eater I don't think it's worth the risk to keep them alive.

I believe as well that if a man gets hungry, and there is only a lion living around him, he wouldn´t think twice about killing it to eat it.

Okay, 25 people were killed be lions. Absolutely hunt the rogue lions, but surely not all of the lions are man-eaters. Ghastly as it is and atypical for lions to eat humans, the lions are wild animals after all. Encrouch on their environment, kill of their natural prey etc. and this is inevitable. Starvation could well lead a lion to resort to killing humans.
Perhaps these animals also develope a taste for human flesh.

It is understandable that when these animals kill ones family, one reacts in a certain way. Some people are compassionate conservationists; others do not have the money or luxury to do so, they have to protect their poor families in the land that they were born. As a vegetarian myself, I do not like to see animals or humans get eaten. We are weak physically, but our brains frickin kicks ass. If my baby gets eaten, I would shoot that lion.

@kassannova44 Remember that an unarmed human is much easier prey than a zebra or antelope. The human is slower to run and react, they are weaker than a zebra for sure (a zebra can kick the lion as it's running away), etc.
And when a lion has killed a human and noticed how easy and un-risky it was, it'll do it again and again and again. If people were armed, lions who attempted to eat humans would either die trying, or even if they succeeded, end up badly hurt so they would never do it again.

Lions are smart beings with relatively complex brains, they adapt to different situations. Lions evolved in an environment where it was a bad idea to go after humans because humans fight back and, by using weapons such as spears, throwing rocks, and later using torches and bows, were much more powerful than lions. Today we have much more advanced weapons. Let's use them.

@MISHA1119 however, animal welfare is important. i can confidently say that i even eat chickens that i have brought up with a huge amount of space, half an acre per 30 chickens in fact. and i will always be fine with even killing them myself and preparing them myself too as i feel it shows more respect to the animal if you recognise it had life instead of distancing yourself from that fact. i dont think not eating meat for moral reasons is right though as naturally we should eat meat.

If you mean that africa's savannah is the lions territory then I have news for you: Humans first evolved there alongside lions, and they competed for the same prey. Lions didn't attack humans often for the same reason they don't attack elephants. But if a pride has killed an elephant they will try again, and again... until they are killed by a stronger elephant or a pack of them.

To close the subject intelligently, targeting specific man-eaters is preferable to the wide-scale poisoning that local residents often resort to. Sadly, there are not presently enough fully-protected game reserves in Africa to sustain a lion population of 40,000 - 50,000. My anger was directed at those who delight in clogging the comments with their wild rubbish rather than trying to think things through. @MISHA1119 In more developed countries where people live alongside dangerous carnivores, people are advised to carry a commercial pepper spray. It seems a possible solution - it's biodegradeable and you can get varieties which emit a cloud, so can be used against several animals at once. It does depend on a quick response to an attack, though.

And once a lion views a human as it's prey, that will not change... Allowing a man-killer lion to survive is dangerous, as is the case with any other beast who develops a taste for human, animals even become dangerous when they lose their fear of us.

In this documentary the researchers must study a pride of Lions on foot because the Lions live in isolated and rough territory.
It is so hard to get to that no cars or trucks can get anywhere near the Lions and the Lions had never seen humans.
It would be a perfect place to get rid of dangerous Lions (WITHOUT killing Lions).

A lion is interesting to study, I love biology and especially learning about how different lifeforms evolved in different environments, but the value of a lion's life just can't be compared to a human's life. Humans engage in division of labor which means everything gets cheaper for you and more goods and services are available to you just because that human is alive and working. Lions can only consume the resources that nature provides.

@I3radley Look pal, I'm not saying Lions should be driven to extinction, but if that's what it takes to expand the human species then that's what will happen and there's nothing you can do to stop it.
About hyenas, if they become a problem they will have to be dealt with as well, but I'm not aware of hyenas ever killing an adult human.
If the zebra population grows too much because of a lack of lions, then guess what, humans will hunt more zebras. Or they'll just starve b/c of a lack of grass.

@zuiprax There are places in Africa where people co exist happily with Lions and no one dies. Many African villages have stopped hunting Lions and now protect them. There is NO reason Lions should have to go extinct to make way for humans.
What gives humans the right to decide which animals are allowed to live anyway? I am not a nut job for thinking animals have a right to live or for thinking humans should stop killing.
The chances are humans will suffer a lot more if Lions do go extinct.

@I3radley "rights" are agreements that humans make with each other for their mutual benefit. What gives humans the right to decide which animals are allowed to live?? HUMANS DO.

@zuiprax How much are Lions symbolised in cultures all around the world? Lions are symbols for Car companies (Peugeot, Holden), Sports teams, Movies (Lions King, Narnia), Songs (In the Jungle) and Lions are on the Coat of Arms of almost every country.
Lions are the 5th most popular animal alive so I'm sure BILLIONS of people would disagree with your dim witted opinion.
You want all Lions killed so a few hunters can hang heads on their walls to compensate for their tiny dicks?
