I've the same video card and with low detail , 1024x768 resolution and no AA no AF there are some random lags lasting a few seconds , if you come in certain areas , as if the game loaded from hard disk, which does not happen , but other than that the game runs very well ! :)

Oh now I get it you're trapped in rapture because the spider splicer at the beginning puts holes in the bathysphere so you can't leave that way and the plane crashes into the walkway so you can't go back. Very inventive thinking. Bioshock is the best fps aside from COD4. But it's much more than an FPS... so much more.

How do you guys explain the fact that every professional review of the 8500GT say it barely run bioshock at 15-20 fps average in 1024x768 noAA with everything maxed (and they always test with high-end cpu's to remove bottleneck) and on the other side you have people on youtube claiming this card can run the game smoothly ? i really wonder. I see 2 solutions : 1- Professional reviewer have computers full of spyware and can't update graphic drivers 2- People here are lying or are happy with 15fps

Differences are GDDR3. A 512 GDDR3 can very well be matched with a 1gb GDDR2. Learn something you noob. A 256mb 8600GTS can be matched with a lot of high end cards today. Put those in sli and your rolling. Crossfire is ok but too expensive, doesn't fit my build. ;'( I have to rip from my old computer to create my own first gaming build.

If you game or want to on a pc do me a favor and stay away from this card. PLEASE...

Depends on other things like your CPU. I presume that with 4Gb ram you're running a 64bit O.S. as all 32bit systems only recognise and use about 3.24Gb. 8500GT isn't a great card....i've had 2 running in Sli. If you're on a budget get an 8600GT or buy a used 8800GT.

Two graphics cards doesn't mean twice the video ram. Two 512mb cards DOES NOT mean 1Gb of video ram. It's not all about ram size anyway. Look at the cards core speed, ram speed and just as importantly, how many streams it has. For a budget go with the 8600 cards, which offer great value for money, otherwise go for 8800. You gets what you pay for.

What you should've typed is; "i have an 8500GT with 1Gb of system ram." Not "I got a single 8500GT with 1Gb of memory." See what i mean? Another Gb of system ram won't have much (if any) effect on games. You would've been better off putting that money towards a decent card in the first place!

silwoody, ram does have effects on games, guess you really don't know your computer components, not only will levels load faster, it should increase Fps in games, it just all comes down to what type of memory you have. But i do agree with you that 2 cards with 512mb of VRAM doesn't equal 1Gb lol.

System ram does make a difference to gaming but once you get over 1Gb the difference is minimal. I went from 1Gb DDR2 800Mhz to two and there wasn't really much difference at all.

8500GT will play these games. It's not a question of whether it will play it, it's a question of how well. I thought 2x 8500GT cards was ok until i got an overclocked 8800GT and was like, "wow!!". If you've never experienced a top graphics card then you'll think the 8500GT is good.

Ah i see. The 8500GT is the card to get for Vista and DX10 if your building on a budget. However i'd seriously recommend you save just a couple of extra dollars and get the 8600GT/GTS. For an extra few bucks you get a much better card (8600 is very good value for the price).

Got my computer (see specs in posts below)set up with 2 8500GT cards and it wasn't that good so i've taken them straight back and traded them in for an EVGA 8800GT 'Golden Sample' (factory overclocked). Cost me £200 inc' trade in on the new 8500gt cards. Will be set up and bench tested by friday. 8500GT is a cheap entry level card with 'performance' to match.

Got the 8500GT cards for about £40 each. Got it all built today and it's been bench tested and to be honest isn't the step up from my single 7600GT that i was looking for. 29 fps on 'Lost Planet' (800X700) and a 20% increase compared to a single card when SLI linked. Cards going back tomorrow and PX for a single 8800.

My friend gave me his 8500gt, he bought a 8800gtx( he was just going to throw the 8500 away so i took it instead)... i put it in my secondary computer, and its able to play bioshock, cod4, oblivion all maxed with 30 fps min, 50 average. 3gb ram and amd 5600+. pretty good card i say. Crysis really stressed this card however, 15 fps min, 25 average all maxed same computer..

7800 gt is not better than the 8500gt super (512mb) However, the 7950 maybe better, but it does not support dx10. I'd suggest getting the 8600gts, or the 8800gtx
