  • Just look how he dresses,THAT is just ONE sign of how we have gone DOWN.He dressed like gentelman, nowdays a young person comes on tv,and they are dressed like a bum or a gang member.

    GOD Bless,

    -Miss De Jian

  • I noticed he didnt use the y in Ricky when signing in also,,, I can relate to that.

  • Stunningly beautiful man.

  • Lol Rock & Roll...

  • hubba hubba

  • LIGHTWEIGHT???/??? Not on your life! He had major hits and wrote music that was covered by many other performers. His contributions to the era were equally important to those of Elvis!

  • Hardly a lightweight Rick Nelson was a huge star as a singer

  • I feel fortunate that I had a chance to see him perform in 1973 in Louisville, Kentucky with the Stone Canyon Band. One of the pioneer Country Rock stars.

  • Incredibly handsome! Beyond belief!

  • I think he was handsomer than Elvis .

  • He was so humble.

  • ...charming in a shy-quiet way..!

  • Such a modest guy. "Are you adored my teenagers?"

  • wow he was handsome.

  • John Daly was the only guy on earth that watched The Harriet and Ozzie Show.

  • The first teen idol, the 1950s version of Justin Bieber.

  • @TheTubePortal NO Ricky had talent--could write his own songs--had a voice that never went off key--didn;t flip off the camera--etc..

  • The host-Mr. Daly-is a quick thinker to eloquently manage tricky questions-so not to give Ricky away! Rick Nelson was my 1st crush-when I was 4!

  • He is unbelievably gorgeous in this clip. More than Elvis... Sadly, Rest In Peace, Rick.

  • love this guy... dorothy kilgallen has a cat bra on her face.

  • love this guy...

  • Sunday: August 30, 1959

  • Even though he was a great singer, he was so down to earth and respectful Even Daly complimented him. That shows that he was true class. Nice that he wore a suit. Today's so called rock stars would come to a show wearing torn jeans and their hair gelled like they escaped from a horror house. Too bad class has diasppeared along with morals.

  • What a nice young man he was. I liked him in "Rio Bravo", he handled himself very well in the company of such greats as John Wayne, Walter Brennan, and Dean Martin. Died way too young.

  • He was such a handsome guy!!!

  • You can't dismiss him as a musical lightweight. Songs like Hello Mary Lou and It's Late were rockabilly classics.

  • He was UNBELIEVABLE.. Gosh I miss him.. Rick - RIP.

  • even today, the Nelson Family are held in high esteem by the American Public. Bill Parker

  • even today, the nelson family are held in high esteem by the American Public. Bill Parker

  • The Nelson family, even to this day are held in some reverence by the American Public. Bill Parker

  • Rick seemed very shy, quiet and reserved..I also noticed a sadness lingering beneath...It must've been extremely hard for him to have grown up with his real family on tv..The lines between reality & fiction must've been crossed at some point during that period, perhaps many times..What a weird way to grow up, with your tv family being your real life family and your real life family being your tv family..I wonder what psychological damage, if any, that caused..His brother-in-law was Mark Harmon.

  • ricky is so cute i wish he was still alive 4 he can make more music

  • Omg I never came across this vidoe before!!! I love it!!! I use to watch reruns of this game show with my mom but never knew Rick was on there! Poor Ricky, he looks so shy, but oh so cute!!! =)

  • Might be the most handsome man ever, gets his good looks from Harriet Hilliard, his Mom.

  • He's an R n R Legend for sure. Can't believe there are some folks who put him down or his music as not being R n R.

  • Damn! Guy's were hot back in the day! <3

    I think i love him!

  • NO.

You kow what overwhelms me watching these old clips..?

This, as example, this young man of 28(?)..

..to say to him, STOP, WAIT, you are going to become involved with a horrible woman who will do all she can to take everything from you and destroy you, manipulate you!

You will do drugs, become alcoholic, sad, destroyed, and lost...

..and alone within an airplane accident at only 43..sigh..

    Look at him now.

  • Dorothy must have had quite a crush on Rick. Did you see how fast she took her blindfold off and fix her hair? Can't say I blame her.

  • he was a babe, just like jfk jr was a babe!

  • Funny; he signed Rick Nelson and was introduced as Ricky Nelson

  • what a smile...

  • wow, Ozzie and Harriet sure had some awesome genes!

  • Yay Dorothy finally got one!! lol

And Ricky is sooooooooo adorable :)

  • Gorgeous.

  • Damn he was a looker.

  • the beauty of cleancut 50s then the 70s came LOL

  • he seems shy. the kind that you have to make the first move if you're a female ahahahahaha!!

  • Now his big brother David has joined him, Ozzie and Harriet - may the Nelsons be having a wonderful reunion in heaven!

  • Bennett is a big cheater through the blindfold almost every single time

  • Like Elvis, The Everlys and more from the CadillacBilly years, Ricky had the the voice of a god and the looks of 10 fim stars.

  • I am so glad that he got such a fine reception by that audience. Watching him here, I could cry, however, knowing the terrible fate that awaited him.

  • @Pectoris4 - I so clearly remember watching the late news on New Years Eve and hearing about the crash. I was chilling. Yes, I thought about that also. However, before he was taken, he did live a full life leaving us all some wonderful music and memories as an actor. His numbers during Ozzie & Harriet are considered forerunners to the music video, although his were much cleaner. RIP Rick. Thanks for posting.

  • Everyone likes Ricky

  • What year was this???

  • @cobolsaurus August 1959

  • More than handsome

  • Ricky nelson as well as elvis were the real youth heroes, unlike this pseudo-I have-to-get-ou-of-the-closet clown called ricky martin.

  • Back in the day teen idols were something today not so much...

  • @ShadyPines7 HAHAHAHHAHHHAHAHAA!!!!! you mean back in the good old days when they married seven times and stunk all the time of cigarettes and booze and abused prescription pills...

  • @nerdflanders8710 Ok , well maybe not all of them ;)

  • ricky, ricky, ricky! i so loved him from the first time i ever clapped eyes on him. still miss him.

    oh, i'm a travelling man......

  • Ozzie & Harriet had only 2 boys but if they had more children, those kids would be just as handsome as Rick and David. Unfortunately, when a guy has a great voice and is also gorgeous, his looks get the publicity and he's never taken seriously--even nowadays. It was only after Rick was much older that people realized his music was a lot better than they wanted to admit at the time. Rick has always been one of my favorite singers. RIP Rick!

  • @wlhardy I read that his music was not taken seriously because 1) he was a child star and 2) he was impossibly beautiful.

  • (I wrote Daly but the blackberry transliterated as "Salt"!)

  • Interesting how Salt hardly let him get a word in. Thoughts?

  • I notice he signed his name as Rick, but they put 'Ricky' on the TV screen. Ozzie and Harriet had been on as mystery guests, too. Not sure why John Daly gave the names backwards, possibly old-fashioned way of giving the woman's name first, just a guess. but, Daly was the news director and anchor for ABC-TV from 1950-1960, so he was in a way promoting a show on the then-struggling ABC network. Rare for a TV newscaster to be allowed to host an entertainment program on another network, CBS.

  • are you..the hottest man alive?

    yes

  • I'm glad I found this one. He was so beautiful. My mom and dad loved him when they were growing up.

  • I loved Rick Nelson. I grew up watching him on tv and it was like a family member had died when he passed away. There will NEVER be another Ricky Nelson.

  • His soooo gorgeous!!!

  • Ricky's so cute!!! I love watching him in this!!!<3

  • Ricky's so beautiful!!!

  • "A BACK-BEAT?!" I love John Daly.

  • Very unusual that they mentioned the network the show aired on....usually they'd just say "airing on another network".

  • I grew up with Ozzie & Harriet and their sons David & Ricky by watching their TV Show weekly like millions of other teenagers of tha era. Ricky had everything going for him during his TV, Movie and Singing career. I don't think he had a great voice but he had many hit records along with his 3 million sellers and many feel that he was a Good Lookin' as he was Talented. I agree. Another great talent lost at a young age. RIP Rick! Ron--Highway Stars Magazine

  • Excellant penmanship!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • he didn't look too happy on here....oh well....he's awesome in Rio Bravo

  • What an idiot. He got the name of the TV show backwards......twice.

  • @pnull He didn't name the TV show. He named his parents.

  • Soooooooo handsome!!

  • He was a handsome fellow. Rest in peace, sir.

  • what a cutie... and why not? He was Ozzie and Harriet's kid.

  • Seems very modest

  • That was great! Rick was a class act, a great actor and a legend in the music industry for ever.

  • That's because he died in a plane crash.

  • What a cool old clip!!!! Rick was a great entertainer and decent human being. He struggled somewhat with drugs but what are all the rest of us struggling with????? Kenny C.

  • Have a little class and respect for the man.

  • I love Ricky Nelson.Beautiful voice and very handsome man!He was great singer!

  • he was one of the great ones

  • Damn, he certainly was a handsome devil, wasn't he.

  • @twilson11208 u fag

  • @nerdflanders8710 : Yeah, only if I were male however you're one to talk listening to that KC and the Sunshine bag and YOU have the gall to call someone a Fag? Mary, get your shit together.

  • @twilson11208 KC is a talented songwriter I don;t care if likes to kiss men, I"m a musician and I like good music.

Not sure why I assumed you were male.....any hoo.....Why do you think people were great looking back then?? Could it be because there wasn't as much junk food as there is nowadays.

Ps Im no fag , I would certainly tap you. I mean again.

  • @nerdflanders8710 : My reason for believing that people were better looking back then are just looking at the old movies of the 40's and 50's. Perhaps it was their style of dressing but then you don't have anyone looking as close to Ava Gardner, Rita Hayworth, Clark Gable nowadays. Just for the record I"m 20 yrs old and am fascinated by these stars. At any rate...I like KC and the Sunshine band and was just messing with you but you're so foul saying you would "tap" me. Just foul.

  • @twilson11208 yes well I was just messing with you too hahaha.although your'e quite a nice looking girl. I would date you.

Anyway there are stil some nice looking wholesome women these days. Amy Smart is really beautiful, so is Scar Jo. Sandra Bollocks is a terrible actress. Taylor Swift is very attracive. sometimes the clothes and hair in the old days was not that great. with those beehive haircuts they were terrible.

  • @nerdflanders8710 : Out of that lot you mentioned I would go with Amy Smart and Sandra Bullock. Scar Jo ..yuck..Taylor Swift ..too scrawny, then again it's from a female opinion. However, those beehive hairstyles were from the 60's and you're right, the style in that era for the most part was pretty busted. I'm partial to the styles of the 30's-50's. BTW, thank you for your compliment, best of luck in your career as a musician, and stay out of trouble.

  • @twilson11208 You got that right!!! He just took my breath away every time I saw him!!!

  • @twilson11208 handsome ? try ADONIS Perfection of Youth

  • @rentatrip1 : You're right, I stand corrected...Adonis he is. Truly a beautiful man.

  • Harriet and Ozzie? You flip flopped it. It's Ozzir and Harriet. That's like saying Allen and Burns. Or Hardy and Laurel. Or Costello and Abbott. I love these shows because they illustrate how square most Americans were. And when someone cool comes on, like Mitchum or, in this case, young Rick, it's a scream to watch. Does it have a back beat?! LOL It's rock 'n roll, baby. And Rick Nelson was a hit machine.

  • John couldn't recognize the show because it was on another network. he had to reword the title in order to even mention it.

  • @eheaven3

Also they actually made good shows back then not this junk that's on now...

  • Ricky was so cute and quiet. Miss him

  • He was so adorable. I love this video.

  • lol geeze can we let ricky answer his own questions?

  • He was so talented and handsome. He died too you--RIP Eric Hilliard Nelson.

  • Whats the big deal about being under 30? Oh I guess it was considered old back then?

  • Ricky looked so handsome. Rest in peace sir.

  • Mr. Daily has a crush...

  • @irvingklaw57 LOL I thought Mr. Daily had a crush too. I just didn't want to go there.

  • 1959...

  • I guess Mr. Cerf was thinking of Tony Bennett?

  • He was an extremely nice man. He was kind and caring and a Blessing to my life!

  • he had a lot of class!

  • He was sooooo adorable!

  • who knew this?

  • not so

  • oh?

    Do you have personal knowledge?

  • damn, john didn't want rick to talk at all.

  • it wasnt john rick just didnt talk alot

  • i heard that oxen were normally castrated when used for labor. so i'm not sure this is a good analogy.

  • Besides being impossibly gorgeous, he was a solid guy, very serious about his music, never felt a need to show off. Life got difficult for him. His death was a terrible shock and way too soon.

  • Notice how he signed in as "Rick". He HATED to be called "Ricky" after entering his late teens.

  • and, of course, WML got it wrong again, as the graphic is "Ricky"

  • In 72 or 73, I heard Kris call him Ricky. We were all in the green room at Avery Fisher Hall.

  • did you know him?

  • yes

  • Wow! Ricky ,so handsome!

    Thanks for posting!!

  • One of many young popular stars to appear on WML who died too soon in 1985.

  • GSN showed this August 1959 episode in March 2009. Dorothy solved all three games -- the new state of Hawaii's new U.S. Senator, a cute young man who took care of monkeys for research, and this game.
