Just a couple more Q's.Does it take u long to line up for a shot? Do u walk up to the dots at fouline and step back, and get your positioning that way.. I found , remembering I only tried it once that I keep losing my place, still will try again over next day or so again. As a coach, does my reasoning make sense, I'm all about eliminating extra movements given the fact that I am a slow bowler?
I like your explanations mate.. I throw 13mph, very slow, I noticed u throw that bit faster maybe 14mph, and the fact there are less things to go wrong, eg drifting, ball placement, push away, less corkscrewing on release, it really intrigues me..I figure that if my speed is always going to be on the slower side, then so be it, why then put the additional risks of an extra 3-4 steps in your approach.. Consistancy is the name of the game.. I will begin practising this...
I realise u have a physical disability, and that is why (perhaps) u bowl with 1 step, my reasoning is built around avoiding any extra movement, I muscle ball in delivery, and slow, so it almost makes sense to try it.. Fiddled around with it in practise, then hopped onto You tube and found your vid...
How long have u been bowling like this, and how have u found your progress over time using this technique??
@looseleftie I am also certified by the (former) YABA as a Registered Coach-Instructor and a (former) USBC Silver Coach. There are drills that are part of training, and one involves just a single half-step. What I do differently is that I take a stance and pushaway as if normal, but I just take the final step. The drill is done to time the final step with the end of the swing.
@looseleftie I started this on league night. My condition has me walking unpredictably and I was fighting bad steps and drifting and bowled a pair of 120s games one night. Being secretary, I couldn't walk out but I would have otherwise. I did the one-step on the spot and had a 186, very first time trying it. I've yet to break 260 with this, I have had the front seven just the same. Perhaps a drop in ball weight may be in the works, I use 15, did try 14 but went back.
@looseleftie A couple of other benefits: I do not drift left/right on the approach. I can also be a precise distance from the foul line; I've been 6' from the line in an attempt to carry a 10, I get closer when shooting at a corner pin, and I have yet to foul or even fall. But I do usually walk backwards from most deliveries, using the approach dots to gauge when to stop.
Hi, I am seriously looking at this as a legitimate technique, I was a 205 ave 5 step bowler a yr ago, tried a few things around for more speed, but realise my game is based on accuracy rather than speed,t am a 13mph bowler, so I am thinking, if I can develop a 1 step delivery, my speed will be much of the same, however I avoid the first 4 steps, meaning inconsistant steps, drifting, poor push away, too much bending from the waist/ hips, and literally hold ball in a short backswIng, then try it??
@plainANDsimpleguy200 Thank you for the kind words. I give a lot back to the sport as a secretary & secretary, former president of another league, youth coach, high school coach, and tournament assistant, on top of being on my local association board. The bowlers like what I do for the game, which is why my league is as large as it is.
Oh, and one other thing. I am the secretary of the 22-team USBC-certified league, where I also run Brackets which requires some data entry between frames in the first half of the first game and gathering/entering scores for the first two games during play. And...I'm averaging 186 after this night of bowling, 26 weeks into the season.
If my speed is the same or perhaps even a little faster with a 1 step release, then why bother with my 5 step approach?
