  • if they had got into a real fight andre would kill this guy

  • after the rabit punches to the back of the head You can see andre start to rough The other guy up!! The finishes were staged but when Men get hit and feel pain they usually pay the favor back!! pro wrestlers take real shots at each other all the time. And andre is putting a beating on this guy for real!!!!

  • with the right training I think andre could have made one heck of a UFC fighter!! especially if he stayed in this kind of shape!!

  • ridiculous

  • Anyone with enough experience in actual fighting can tell this was a work. Some of Wepner's punches may look real, but legitimate fighters are never really good at throwing fake punches.

  • @ThePinkMan WRONG IT WAS REAL IT MIGHT NOT HAVE STARTED OUT AS REAL

    BUT ANDRE LOST HIS TEMPER!

  • @oldschool6804 The ending was the fakest looking part.

FYI, typing in all-caps really kills any credibility to the argument you're trying to make.

  • @ThePinkMan old time wrestlr les thatcher said he heard it was real, listent o wrestling weekly on wrestling observer website, i think he knows more than you or i.

  • @oldschool6804 It's clearly not real. There's no logical reason for the two to have had a shootfight.

  • @ThePinkMan you're wrong watch it again he rabbit punched andre really hard it turned into a shoot you're misinformed!

  • @ThePinkMan what makes you think it wasn't real?

  • they backed a dump truck of cocaine up to Wepner's house the next day

  • Why doesn't Don King just have players in the NBA go against MLB players in a basketball game and the baseball players can use bats? This mixed bout was utterly ridiculous!

  • What was Andre doing? Wrestling or boxing? They should have let him put onthe gloves and let em' go.

  • wow that last round was almost exactly like Rocky 3! almost moment by moment

  • @lucky44124 yeah cause this is where Sly got the idea for the Thunderlips fight

  • LOL I remember this on ABC wide world of sports in the 70's!

  • ok andre cant throw punches because he doesnt have gloves.... so when he grabs him, the referee breaks it up? Explain then what the hell andre can do then? He can throw punches or grab him, they beak it up when they touch the ropes... wtf?

  • i do not understand why cuck do not put out his gloves and destroy his face so fast

  • Yea I get sick of people saying Andre was only 6'9 you can tell on here he might not have been the height of 7'5 as he was billed....but you can tell he is over 7foot

  • Scripted or not, this showmanship was great entertainment when I was growing up. Today it's laughed at and made fun of, but we didn't have a 50" t.v. with 2 satellite dishes hooked to the internet, 4 video game systems, a blu-ray and dvd combo with a 12,000 watt sound system and 88 million channels and netflix. This is what we saved our allowance for over six months and paid 5 bux to see. And these type of REAL showmen never disappointed. It's what memories of millions of childhoods are made of.

  • Like anything to do with pro wrestling this was scripted. In these types of matches, the boxer never goes full out with his punches. Does anyone honestly think that Andre's crude defense without head movement could keep out the headshots of a worldclass heavyweight? Sure he's big and strong, but not trained for years to take the punches of a pro boxer. Had Wepner truly landed with a fullblooded body shot the wrestler would have shit his liver.

  • @madmax8903 Nope, sorry, this wasn't scripted at all. Look around here on YouTube and you'll find Wepners trainers talking about this, there was no script. Wrestlers are not bad actors play-fighting, it's a grueling business and wrestlers train to take punishment, believe me they can take a punch. Also Wepner was not a worldclass boxer, he was game and I give respect to him, but he was a state champ and club fighter, not one of the all-time greats.

  • @FerretJohn The whole pro wrestling game is an act. Sure they have to be physically rugged, and can be hurt, just like a movie stuntman, but like the movies what they do is scripted, and not "real". I call Wepner world-class. He may not have been great, but he had a fair ranking and fought some of the best ever. Anyway he was too good to be messed about by a mere wrestler, no matter how huge. And they are NOT trained to take a heavyweight's punches.

  • @madmax8903 YOU'RE WRONG IT'S NOT ALL AN ACT ANDWEPNER REALLY HIT ANDRE SEVERAL TIMES AND ANGERED HIM.

  • There is a chance that Wepner could of knocked out Andre for sure... but Andre was known for flipping cars on their sides when he would get drunk... If this was a serious I would of bet on Andre

  • Guys...this must've been a legitimate match. Didn't you see the Don King shirts the cornermen were wearing?

  • Andre and Wepner were friends.

  • @galactusz HOW DO YOU KNOW?i heard chuck hit him too stiff and pissed the giant off!

  • This was scriped but I believe Wepner was actually hitting André and it must've pissed André up enough that he lifted and threw him after landing on him

  • thank you for posting this video

  • The birth of MMA.

  • vince sr used 2 have gorilla monsoon n position 2 maintain order - he was a real life tough guy - billy graham tells the story of how bruiser brody tried some dumb stuff n a dressing room & gorilla was more than willing 2 fight brody ...

  • fake at the end!!

  • it wasn't fake i know bill ater and he says what hapened at the end was totally legit.

  • @bosto23 why how dare you???? i don't give a damn. JUST SHUT UP.

  • is this real??? since andre the giant did fake wrestling is this real or planned?

  • @chivasceltics: I believe what we have here is the worlds 1st proper Mixed Martial Arts Match

  • @kanenkitten Hi... in the 1887 a boxe Champ named John L. Sullivan fought a wrestler named William Muldoon , ceck in wikipedia and u will find many interesting information !

  • @chivasceltics

André was discovered by Lord Alfred Hayes, a wrestling promoter, and left home as a teenager to become a wrestler in Paris. He worked as a mover by day and trained in the ring at night — though few wrestlers were willing to train with anyone so large and strong. In 1964, Édouard Carpentier, a well-known French wrestler, agreed to train with him. Roussimoff was billed as "Géant Ferré", the name of a legendary French lumberjack, and quickly made a name for himself.

  • You'll never ever see stuff like this today! The days before TV and the internet saturated everything.

  • @ParadoxEquation: What illegal blow? I didn't see Andre throw an illegal blow

  • @kanenkitten Exactly. Wepner was the one nailing Andre repeatedly in the back of the head. That is illegal even in UFC. I would say Wepner was a bitch this whole fight, but he was facing a man that outweighed him by easily over 100lbs. So the fight really wasn't fair to begin with. Wepner is just lucky that Andre didn't try to pound on him when he had him on the ground. This footage is awesome though.

  • @zackvanhalen Trust me.... Wepner is not going all out with his punches.

I've seen huge men get clocked in the chin and dropped like a sack of potatoes. Being big doesn't mean you can take a punch. If Wepner were really trying to land hard on Andre he'd put him down.

  • @jorgekluney Being big doesn't mean you can't take a punch either, nor does being a pro wrestler make you a wimp in a real fight. Andre was a monster, there was no one like him ever, and this was at his physical peak. And Wepner was never a great fighter, this and his one match against Ali were pretty much the height of his career. He was a game fighter, he'd take on bears if the money was right, but he was no Foreman when it came to power.

  • @jorgekluney YOU'RE WRONG ANDRE HAS TOLD SEVERAL WORKERS THAT CHUCK HIT HIM VERY HARD AND PISSED HIM OFF!

  • @oldschool6804 Oh well that settles it then. A wrestler who's paid to act in the ring says that something, this time, really was real. I'm sold.

  • @jorgekluney they aren't always acting you asshole!

  • @oldschool6804 Well that's obvious. But you're cherry picking when they are really being real or when they're acting and saying it's real.

Also, calm down you little child.

  • @jorgekluney YOU'RE WRONG YOU CONDESCENDING PRICK MOST OF THE STUFF HURTS FOR REAL!

  • @oldschool6804 Like I'm going to take an overly emotional kid's word for it? I don't think so.

  • Thanks for posting this. It doesn't get much more surreal, and I guess another thing that Stallone borrowed from Wepner's story for the Rocky films.

  • I heard that the fight wasn't supposed to be a shoot at first but turned into one after Chuck landed a few hard shots trying to take Andre out.

  • Funny thing is, this telecast prelim fight was still 10 times better than the main event, Ali vs Inoki

  • Well Andre was a strong mofo but an actor after all, not a real fighter. Wepner would ko him in less a minute.

  • It annoys me when people think of pro wrestlers as nothing but actors. I know wrestlers, they're serious dedicated athletes. Andre was a trained grappler, maybe not as polished and skilled as Angle or Couture but he knew what to do in the ring, he had the easy advantage of reach over Wepner and like most boxers Wepner couldn't work in a grapple. Plus Andre was freakin bull, Chucks best punch couldn't phase him. This wasn't a scripted fight, Chuck did his best and got hammered.

  • Wepwner himself admit that was a prearranged fight. Wrestler was actor and atlhete, able to kick ass to a normal person but against a pro boxer? C'mon. Remember Butterbean vs Billy Gunn ?

One punch and the match is over.

Andre was slow even in his prime, Wepne would use him as an heavy bag.

Wrestling is scripted! You can see old match in which Andre jobbed against smaller japanese wrestler and looked weak and coward and more recent ones where an old and shattered Andre was billed as invincible.

  • Yeah, I remember Butterbean vs Gunn, Gunn put on gloves and fought as a boxer, if he worked gloves-off as a wrestler it might've been different (or maybe not, Butterbean had concrete for hands and was faster than a 400lber should be). As for Wepners "admission" I'll file that under "uhm, I meant to do that."

  • Well, I remember Wepner said that he refused the bodyslam as finisher mover and they agree to had him lost to count out. I'll try to search that old page..years later Wepner "fought" with Inoki and lost, I think, for an armbar.

  • @criceto where did wepner say that?

  • Actually theres a video on youtube that Chuck's manager says that chuck hit Andre with his hardest punch and Andre hardly faltered

  • @criceto wrestlers are more than actors asshole!

  • there are rules to this fight...

andre is a dirty fighter... he throws his first illegal blow at 5:48....

  • The end is where it gets interesting and apparently REAL, watch closely and you can see Chuck land one overhand right and another right to Andre's face, that's what made Andre mad as hell. If they hadn't broke them apart, Andre would eventually have killed Chuck, strangled or suffocated him to death. The way he throws a boxer (untrained in wrestling skills) out of the ring could have resulted in severe injuries on Chuck's part as well, luckily his legs got tangled up in the ropes, raises a few ?

  • I don't care what anybody says or thinks. A Prime Andre the Giant was a bad ass mo'fo. I would put him up against any wrestler in any period. He was awesome & loved. He didn't become a "bad guy" until the end of his career. And when he wrestled Hogan, was way past it, and also in severe back pain that night. He ust wanted to get it over. He told hulk the body slam would be ok, but i'm sure it didn't help his back problems. Poor Andre used crutches towards the end just to help him walk.

  • Is that Vince McMahon commentating?

  • Yeah.

  • andre really got pissed off!

  • This is back in the Day when andre was at his tallest because chuck is around 6'6

  • You get the sense that if he's wanted to Andrea the GIANT could quite easily a snuffed Chuck Wepners life out right there and then if he'd wanted to! He certainly is so much bigger that who probably would have been able to break both his arms...very sad to watch! Pathetic actually, this wasn't a fight it was a Slaughter!

  • it says in his book that he could have destroyed Wepner in the first 10 seconds but being the true showman that he is, he was willing to give the public a few rounds

  • This is great classic footage. Thanks for posting.
