I have been playing the violin going on my second year (am in 7th grade) i saw this and i was like "Woah!"

    Any pointers?

  • @metalmaymay Just keep playing. I am self taught. Trust in playing in front of a mirror. It helped me in so many ways. Also, record yourself so you can get use to hearing what you sound like and what areas needs improving. Good luck!

  • my daughter is 10 she plays the viola also and loves to watch this video. i think this video really inspired her because everyday she keeps playing for hours, i ask her if she wants lunch or dinner and she says she wants to play this song as beutiful and graceful as you do.

  • violas are easier to learn than guitar

  • @Oshyrath SERIOUSLY?! I play the guitar for a year (I'm Grade 3), so I want to know...

  • Oh violas sound so fantastic.... <3

  • this is awesomee!!!!!!!! im only a freshmen n ive been playin for about 4years n this year i hav to be on top of my game may u give me a few pointers?

  • @haras411 Sorry for the late response. Just practice in front of the mirror and try to record yourself. Play in various small groups for fun and enjoy creating music in general. Do your best and know that even the greatest makes mistakes.

  • I play French Horn but this is pretty awesome

  • @yugiohabridged432 The French horn is one of my favorite instruments.

  • I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS I PLAY THE VIOLA AND WE AHVE TO REPRESENT AND THT WAS JUST AMAZING I'VE PLAYED FOR 4 YEARS NOW IM 13 AND THT INSPIRED ME

  • anubus15 I was hoping I could get the sheet music from you on this. I have been playing the viola for almost 11 years now and currently living in the Philippines where we rarely find viola pieces for sale. You could email me via my account or send the soft copy to my email: dindo.carayo@yahoo.com. I am exited to learn this. Thanks and keep on playing!

  • @dcarayo I shall see what I can do to help you!

  • That's some sick vibrato man.

  • im 12 i play viola and this is amazing

  • eres exelente!!!!!

  • Why do violists stand for long periods outside people's houses?

They can't find the key and they don't know when to come in.

  • @tomphat246 Priceless!

  • how long have you been playing? the sound is beautiful.

  • @Squidgey55 It's been a long time..lol. Since the video 20 years.

  • Beautiful! I played viola for several years in school, ended up first chair for high school and all that, but then I stopped.... oh videos like yours make me MISS IT! SO MUCH! (thank goodness i'm starting again this year :D)

  • ive been playing piano for eight yreas, and now ive just started viola. Very interesting instrument, althought he alto clef, though necessary, takes a bit of getting used to since i read trable clef before. im 13 btw

  • OMG!!!!

i love that i wanna be as good at u im only 2nd chair viola now teach me ur skills

  • @512cab Congrats on your chair. The mirror is your greatest friend. Use it and take everything slowly and you'll be first chair before you know it!

  • i too play viola (this is my 3rd year playing)

, i hope i can become as great as you! :)

  • I am a pianist and saxophonist and an aspiring violist, trumpeteer, and bassoonist.

  • You have a beautiful sound and great bow control. Your low notes are as rich as chocolate fudge and your legato is as smooth as silk.

  • Can i please had the sheet music...

i have been playinq the Viola for 8 years now and i think i can play this wonderful piece.!

  • @mayoboyd It's a great piece. It is making a name for itself for sure!

  • My vocal instructor compared my singing voice to a viola, but i wasn't sure what it really sounded like, so i looked it up...i am so glad your video was the first one i clicked...ABSOLUTELY BREATHTAKING. Bravo, darling. Keep up the good work. You are an amazing musician. :)

  • @xXxMusicAngelxXx1 Thanks so much! The violin family is said to be the closest to the human voice. Your voice must be very rich and dark. You have videos of your performances and such?

  • @anubus15 lol sound kind of racist sayin dat sound dark. jk :)

  • @Personaility15 It's how the sound of the viola has been classified as for years. In its own right it does have a darker sound than the infamous violin, more-so the larger violas like the one I am playing on. (17 1/2") :-)

  • Could you please post a link for the sheet music? I also play viola.

  • @scottriche I can't post the link here but you can got to sheet music plus dot com and look for Elgar Sopiri for viola and piano.

  • where did you get the music for this

  • @skullsrock19 Sheet music plus dot com is where I get most of my music.

  • I am so glad to find a viola solo. It's almost depressing when I tell people I play viola, not violin, and they have no idea what a viola is.

  • @JeromeViolist ikr...

  • @JeromeViolist I understand where you are coming from. I get that a lot too but it is great to let them know about it and spread the word about the viola. I am glad I made the switch from double bass years ago!

  • this song make me cry.. don't know why, But I LIKE IT! :'D

  • Teach me!!!! I just started playing viola at age 29. I'll teach you piano if you teach me viola!

  • @numsify That is awesome! We are the same age..lol. How long have you been playing the piano?

  • @numsify lolz viola is a really cool instument(: i play it and it's really fun(:

  • I Liked! You so... So... So very ... I'm No speak english much... You sou asome!

  • @Delii14 Thanks so much my friend..!!

  • DAMNNN i iplayed viola

for 4 years then stopped after junior high. I am an idiot

  • @elhuero21 Well, it's never too late to go back to playing. One never truly forgets how to play!

  • @anubus15 So true :)

  • @anubus15 My thoughts exactly!

  • @anubus15 Thnx for the advice and i understand

  • @anubus15 My 13 year old son plays viola and he refers to the sound as "chocolate". How can that be wrong? :)

  • I love This.

I have been playinq the viola for 7 1/2 yeah now.

And i wish i could sonq like that.!

    You did very well.

  • *sniff made meh cry...its so beautiful ^^ would you give meh the music to this us viola players have to stick together right?.... but great playing!! i love how the room make your sound echo and the verato makes it even better.. Such a beautiful song! <3 i love it

  • This is amazing. The echo in the room you're playing in makes everything sound more emotional in some way. I love this. What age did you start to play viola?

  • @LilKayKay4495 Thanks for the comment. I need to upload my new videos when I get a chance. I originally started on the double bass when I was 8 years old in forth grade. I taught myself viola when I was eleven year old. I didn't switch to the viola full time until I was thirteen years old.

  • @anubus15 That's amazing. And please send me and email when you upload your new stuff? It would be amazing to be one of the first views. (: And I love how you started at such a young age. You really are talented and it has paid off.

  • Comment removed

  • to much attack and watch your notes and phrasing and work on cleaner shifts

  • Great job! I just started this piece. How long have you been playing?

  • @Rightadextrious I have been playing for nineteen or so years now. I started on the Double Bass before switching to viola.

  • @anubus15 Well this is very impressive.

  • The sound is resonating beautifully where you're playing, it's perfect for this piece. Your performance was stunning. Amazing talent you have there =]

  • I play viola and actually am one of the only guys at my school who plays it.

    Viola>Violin

  • this is so beautiful... what a magnificent talent you have

  • WOW....Love how you play this! Do you know here I can find the notes for it?

  • @88midlight Sure... you can find it at sheet music plus dot com. I get most of my music there.

  • @anubus15 Thank you Soooo much!

  • love your smooth shifting - your tone, and your vibrato.

  • you're hot and musical! The best of both, the person waking up next to you is one lucky bast*rd.

  • @slbrah You are too funny. Thanks for the comments...lol

  • wow. thats so pretty. ive been interested in violin but i would like to know the difference between violin and viola...to me viola sound alot more beautiful!!! ^.^ I currently play piano....im at the advanced level, and would like to learn a few types of string instruments.

  • @KaylaAnna1995

Viola is deeper than violin. It's also considered the black sheep of the string section... There are lots of viola jokes out there. But I love my viola lol and I encourage you to pick it up! (I'm only of a few months' experience, but there's just something about strings that's intensely beautiful.)

  • O.o..... i gotta practice....

This proves that the viola is not to be considered a lesser insturment than the rest of the orchestra!!

You played this beautifully btw :D

  • This looks hard to play

As a clarinet player i would say that though

    But still it looks HARD

  • Oh,Your viola is so huge!!!! NIce sound, nice interpretation:)

  • i love this solo so much. you sound wonderful. i've played the viola for goin on eight years and i would really love to play this piece but i'm having trouble finding the music for it. could you try to help me please?

  • hey i have been trying to find the music for this piece for quite some time but am not having any luck. can you help me out? i've been playing for almost eight years and this is among my top favorite pieces.. you do a beautiful job performing it

  • Someday,, I'll be just like you =)

  • @khang1e with time and practice you will be better than me...lol

  • how big is the viola you have?

  • looks like mine so prolly a 16 or 17

  • Very close... It's just over 17 3/8"

  • My viola is 17 3/8"

  • i LOVE the solo. =]

i absolutely love the viola. the sound of it is so lovely, and wonderful. =]

its not too high, and its not too low. its just right. =]

thats what made me wanna play it.

UR AWESOME AT PLAYING IT! =]

  • Sorry,neither 19th century

  • This composition is definitely by Edward Elgar and it's originally composed for vl+p. The style isn't 18th century at all :)

  • So it's Elgar's Sospiri arranged for solo viola?

  • i've answered my own question actually. this is in fact an Elgar piece. i've found the sheet music for it.

  • You are correct. I a friend had posted this for me and I told him the wrong composer. Thanks for clearing this up! It is an Elgar piece and not Chopin. I have yet to put that one up....

  • okay. where did you find it? i've looked in quite a few places and haven't seen it anywhere. is it a transcription?

  • i see here that this is either an elgar or a chopin piece...clear up the confusion so more violists can play this piece you've done so beautifully? thanks. :)

  • It is an Elgar piece re-written for the viola and piano

  • wow your viola has such a lovely sound. I'm still rockin' my schler and roth from the sixth grade.

  • Thanks for the comment. I bought this viola back in 2000, the year I graduated high school. It's a keeper for sure. My sound is part the viola and part the strings that I had finally found to improve my sound. It took years in the making...lol.

  • What kind of strings do you use? Yeah I'm still saving up for my dream viola. hopefully I find it before I go to college, The viola I have right now has good sound but the neck broke and when I got it repaired it just didn't sound right anymore.

  • Sorry to read about your viola neck being broken. What's the makers name of the viol you have your eyes set on? The strings that I had finally set on are the Pirastro Passione Viola Strings. A close second for me are the Thomastik Vision Solo Viola Strings. I'll be posting some new songs soon since my sound has improved more. Well, that and I had changed my look a bit. Happy New Year and good luck on getting that viola you've always wanted...!!!

  • Karl Joseph Schneiders models caught my eye alot and I have to check out those strings. I'm planning on putting up my telemann solo I would really appreciate some helpful feedback when I put it up. Thankyou I'll be watching your new vids when you put them up, Happy new years to you to!!! and thankyou for the luck.

  • dang your viola is big! wat size is it?

  • I know right... It's an seventeen and a quarter size viola.

  • The sound of your instrument is very nice. Intonacion is very goood!!!

    Bravo

  • dang i love this peice, i didnt know it was for a voila, well can u tell me where to get it or buy it?

  • where did you get this music?

  • You learn to vibrate your fourth finger and you're a beast. I love your sound.

  • sounds awesome.

  • Awesome!

  • Lovely piece, I have not hear it before. Very nice interpretatation, indeed. I am a viola student myself. I wonder if you will be able to share the music score with me. I will love to learn to play it.

    Thanks.

  • That was well played. I can't wait until I get vibrato down to that point where I can maintain a solid tone on those long, sustained notes.

So this is a Chopin piece?

  • Thanks so much for the comment... Yes, this is a Chopin piece. I love this piece very much. Although it is an easy piece when you look at it, the long holds are what makes it hard. Soon, your vibrato will come when you least expect it...!!!

  • hi. im also a violist and i really want play that song. can u tell me the name and from where i can download the score i mean the notes. thks(sry for my english :P)

  • Beautiful! I am currently playing the viola, but I'm just a beginner. We're just starting on the bow. xD Anyways, I hope that someday, I can play wonderful just like you. Keep up the good work! (:

  • @MONTALBOseestars r u good yet? lol

  • i enjoyed do you go to school for music? where do you study?

  • As a beginner violist, I think you are awesome. one of the things I really want to learn is vibrato.

  • Thanks for the comment. I am glad that you like my playing. My vibrato is forever changing due to my very large hands. I wish you well in your learning more of the viola. Keep me posted on what you are working on!!

  • @satanonbass end of the second year

  • Hard work indeed, don't know which instrument suits better. Sounds nice but slightly incoherent - but I know it's hard (for violin, but will try now for viola as well. Could be even slower but then it gets harder :)

  • Sospiri is Edward Elgar, originally for Violin and Piano.

  • pretty nice tone, never heard of this piece though..there are a few comments i have though :) the thing that i used to get yelled at for is not putting vibrato on some notes, I would definitely recommend rethinking what notes you use vibrato for. Sometimes its nice to have no vibrato, but if you're just doing it because you forget then that's not good :p anyway, nice sound!

  • Nice, Strong Tone, very Clear! How difficult is this piece for Viola?

  • Thanks so much. The piece difficulty lies within the solid tones and phrases. This was a practice for me. There are a few bloopers in there. The room my friend and I were in was soooo cold. But, overall I am pleased with my sound. Thanks again for the comment..!!!!
