  • I feel like my generation is deprived of awesome moments like these.

  • This is so funny....it was one of the bloopers

  • THAT IS NOT FAIR!!!

  • Best part in all of that was actually the "It's his first day!" line by Rip when Bert screws up in the beginning.

  • If the whispering of the password had been done on Password Plus, Gene's whispering would have sounded exactly the same as it did on Super Password.

  • So I take it no one knew it was bald?

  • Rip really flipped his wig.

  • I love Rip's reaction when patty says the word

  • One of the weirdest 5 minutes in TV history.

  • He looks better without that ridiculous thing.

  • "It's my show, I can do it if I want to!" Did Bert just kick over a chair after that?

  • @Notebooked He threw his red stool down that he sat on by his podium - it sure freaked Patty Duke out! LOL

  • Every game show has its "most talked-about moment". Password Plus had the "French" incident, The Price is Right had its "Yolanda" hour, and Super Password had this.

  • @denelson83 And of course Family Feud has "Alligator" and "September" :o)

  • hahahahaha

  • Honest to God, he looks better without that mop on his head.

  • if they decided to bring this show back who would make a good host for it?

  • "Just what I always wanted, hair on my chest!" haha That was funny.

  • There Goes HELLEN KELLER AGAIN!!!!

    LOL LOL LOL LMFAO!!!!!!

    RIP TAYLOR IS A GODSEND!!!!

  • What a gas! :-)

  • I laugh when Rip Taylor Took his Toupee off.

  • What does Patty originally say for a clue?

  • Witness

  • @revinevan87 she said the word testimony

  • @Jamescs007 I meant the first time before she tells Burt to hush. It was witness. fisher10000 answered it already

  • Episcapalian....(laughter) Rip: Well, you sit up here and go in the dumper?

  • I was a little boy when I first saw Rip on TV and I said "This guy is NUTS!" and I've been a fan ever since. Thanks for all the laughs Rip and you look great with or without your rug.

  • @OjaiRoy

"There goes Helen Keller again" lol, that was a nice reference to Patty Duke's Oscar winning role in "The Miracle Worker"

  • Rip Taylor was hilarious as the host of the "The $1.98 Beauty Contest". I fondly recall the show...had a lot in common with "The Gong Show"....I think both shows were produced by the eccentric Chuck Barris. THANKS for sharing this delightful "blast from the past" with us! :)

  • In case anyone was wondering, the clue she tried to give was "witness"

  • ...The password is TESTicals.

    That's what I keep hearing!

  • What was the clue Rip said at the beginning? Is that even a real word?

  • episcapalian(spelling?) yeah its real

  • It was a real word. He mentioned the religion Apiscapallion. I am not sure how it is spelled.

  • Episcopalian. It's real.

  • If it wasn't, the illegal clue SFX would have sounded!

  • How many times has Rip torn off his hairpiece

  • Vive le Rip Taylor. He is a one-of-a-kind comedian and entertainer.

  • No. I get him confused with a lot of others. He was unusual on $1.98 beauty contest, though, which came out when I was like 8 yrs old. Ah, no wonder I grew up to be an entertainer.

  • Listen to Korn

  • Is Bert Convey still alive ?????

  • Unfortunately, no. He died of a brain tumor around 1990 or 1991. He managed to shoot a pilot for the Match Game relaunch before passing away. I don't know if it's ever been shown...

  • It was shown on one of those Ben Stein clip shows a couple of years ago, as it had a question relating to boobs on it.

  • @startrekkin58 From what I read and heard Bert died during a taping of Win Lose or Draw of the brain tumor. It was a shame he as such a good host and will be missed.

  • Comment removed

  • @startrekkin58 He died of the brain tumor 20 years ago today on July 15, 1991 - RIP Bert!

  • @startrekkin58 He died in 1991.

  • Bert passed away in 1991. My dad was at his funeral.

  • no way. i would remember that forever.

  • Yes, I am sorry to say it is true. Bert was a wonderful person and a very good friend to my family. I will never forget him for as long as I live. I treasure the photo I have of us together at my dad's wedding. He was beautiful.

  • i would. could b worth lots of money later in life.

  • @heartofcrystal4

You knew Bert Convy, Wow...bet you have a whole album full of memories about him.

  • That must have been SO LIBERATING for RIP to take that God awful WIG off !! LOL!

  • Is RIP still alive, or R.I.P. ??????

  • He is still alive.

  • Still alive and as spry as ever!

  • @startrekkin58 So "Rip" is not R-ing IP? Great! He did a great turn on the Monkees, when he was known as the "Crying Comedian".

  • @donpazer He recently appeared on G4's "Attack of the Show".

  • I never knew Rip wore a wig til I saw this!

Only appropriate that the answer was nuts

  • Rip would have been perfect for the new Gong Show .I wish he had hosted since Chuck Barris didn't want to.

  • Rip was a judge on the original Gong Show several times.

My dad worked that show for awhile too.

  • "There goes $13 shot!" LOL!

  • the guys mustache is AWESOME!!!!

  • I like Rip's mustasche as well. I think everyone does.

  • Wardrobe Malfunction!

  • LOL a 1:22 when Rip says "there goes Helen Keller again".

  • Rip Taylor reminds me of the guy that first greets Dorothy at the door when she arrives at the Emerald City.

  • Haha!! Good call!

  • @WastedPo and yells out "Who rang that bell??"

  • @adamdicy Really?!.....When?

  • @bmsc208 I forgot what I wrote that you commented on...lol.

  • Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. Happy 75th Birthday Rip!!!

  • rip taylor is a riot!

  • this is funny, rip taylor was hilarious

  • Is Rip Taylor gay?

  • Like a show tunes slumber party at Richard Simmons' house.

  • HAHAHAHAHA!!!

  • Ya think????

  • burt convey is nuts

  • ... He kinda looks like Wilford Brimley... o_O

  • Rip Taylor "rips" (as in "takes") it off!

  • Patty Duke caught the "Jack Paar" virus, ROFLMAO!

  • I've never heard a studio game show audience go as crazy as they did when he took his wig off.

  • THE most hilarious moment in "Super Password" history!

  • Back in the day ... games shows were the retirement homes for B-list celebrities ... where sexual innuendos were encouraged and public intoxication was celebrated. Ah, the golden age of television.

  • @fardirass - and game show producers knew how to have fun and not stick to a timed format where something like this would be cut out in favor of more Depends ads.

  • This was the perfect puzzle for everything to go "nuts."

  • Man, how I wish I could have been in the audience that day! Damn it, why did I have to be a baby in late 1987?!

  • This is almost as hilarious as the famous France/French incident during Password Plus!

  • Rip Taylor did a Ted Danson (the third to the last ep. of Cheers).

  • Rip Taylor is the best!

  • I always wondered what he looked like without the toupée.

Rip sans-toupée, combined with his attire there made him look like a biker. Very different (not in a bad way).

  • Didn't they do a few episodes where the contestants were kids and the celebrities were the child actors of the time

  • Rip Taylor is so funny, you gotta love him

  • love how it was on backwards

  • Is it just me, or does Patty Duke look hammered?

  • Without the wig he looks like the little man from Monopoly...

  • I agree!

  • Rich Uncle Pennybags, you mean.

  • Bert Convey was so awesome. This is when

    game shows were fun.

  • This "Testimony Incident" episode on "Super Password" is from January of 1988.

  • before this happened didn't Rip taylor insist his hairpiece was his real hair

  • Does anyone know if RIp Still wears a Hairpiece?

  • He wears it mostly for fun now. He was on the short lived remake of I've Got a Secret (2007) on GSN and he was wearing it then! And it looks exactly the same as it did here! lol He took off his hair and started throwing confetti around, as only he can. :)

  • bleedin capricorns, always wanting to attain 'something'

  • haha so many people have tried to copy his style

  • Rip is fantastic, and the late Bert Convy was such a fun talent as a host and occasional Actor as well. I miss the energy, escapist fun and irreverence of the old game shows like this. Now any new game show, as few as they are, feel too contrived, forced, over serious, and are not even 1/10 as fun as the old school of game shows. Then as now, we live in a ugly world, and game shows should be light escapist fare such as this.

  • Ever noticed (and great point btw about Rip and Bert) that all the NEW game shows, their first background color seems to be black? (new meaning not WoF, Jeopardy or TPiR)

Goes to your point, I figure.

  • Hi eljefereal and thank you!

Yes, the set designs are downright morbid today and run counter to the alleged idea that game shows are supposed to be fun.

The current crop of younger Producers of todays handful of game shows on TV in America are seemingly indifferent to the lessons of the past and lost, much like the country itself seems to have become circa 2008.

  • Patty Duke's partner is really HOT!

  • Makes him look like Wilford Brimley.

  • This was hysterical. I cry laughing every time I watch this clip. Bert Convy and Rip Taylor are the best. They are hysterical and always have me crying laughing.

  • Rip Taylor... Best. Comedian. Ever.

  • Okay...maybe I'm naive, but what does "shrinking" and "testimony" have to do with nu......Oh. Ohhhhh.....that's naughty ._.

  • It's the movie, "Nuts" starring Barbara Streisand, in which she get's "shrinked" and provides testimony on her own behalf in her murder trial.

  • Well.....crap. Now I'm not only ignorant, I have a dirty mind, too ;_;

  • Bert: I didn't know episcopalian was a 16 syllable word

    Rip: Just shut up!!

  • Thanks for showing the conclusion of the game. I was scared to death that I was never going to find out what "shrink", "absorbing", and "testimony" describe.

  • Super Password's Funniest Moment!!!

  • Meantime, Mr. Ludden was probably looking down from on high, laughing and saying "What have they done to the game?"

  • Just before Rip goes under the table, doesn't it look like he's saying, "Fu** off?"

  • Patty Duke was saying the password "Testimony." And Bert Convy heard it what she say....And Rip Taylor grows out of frustration.

  • Rip Taylor ripped off his wig and he yells "That's not fair! That"s not fair!"

  • This is the first time Rip ever removed his toupee in television history!

  • Man, that's the funniest clip I ever saw on YouTube! My stomach hurts from laughing.

  • epis...episcopaliaaaaan

  • Is it just me or does Rip look better bald?

  • "There goes 13-Dollar Shop!" XoD

  • *shot* :-p

  • he said there goes $13 shot not what you wrote

  • @antster1983 actually he said there goes $13 shot

  • Thanks for this! This has been uploaded to YouTube multiple times, but the picture quality was so awful it was almost unwatchable. Yours is perfect!

  • This was on last week, it was the funniest thing I ever saw.

  • This happened back in 1988.

  • No, the end of 1987!
