  • i can't say anything about the game since i got for wii for $5 at a dollar general.

  • The soundtrack fails for not having the bobomb battlefield theme

  • what I thought of it.... it could have just been a download on the vc shop. But I got it anyway because i'm a slave to mario.

  • Cgrundertow is a great reviewer!!!

  • super mario all stars the packing is cool

  • yes i found all roms from that package in internet so easily. if they added first Mario ( super mario bros - nes ) then i would like to buy it but..

  • @Fr3aKsTyLe917 It might as well have been a DS game. It's literally just a direct port of the SNES version, and they didn't even add Super Mario World. They really must have wasted alot of potential storage space on the discs.

  • Same Shit... Different Toilet..

  • hey this is a port of snes version from 1993???

  • @Moboulic Sadly yes. No enhancements. No extra features. Just that.

  • If you take a look at the Sonic Adventure 2 10th aniverssary package for the Sega Dreamcast, you actually get something that's really worth the money:

    1. Sonic music CD with 23 tracks (23 because the game was released 23rd of June in 2001)

    2. The game

    3. Double sided Sonic coin

    4. Sonic history booklet that contains more information than you would ever need about Sonic (More than just history about the games and the character himself)

The whole package comes in a cool box as well.

  • I am glad that I got this because I got the original and it got a glitch in it that cause it to crash if you were to stomp on the floor by mistake or you tap the table with your controller where it's at. It's bonus, aside the little extras they got on the other disc, is that the game hardly crashes on you. The only bad thing is they should've added the NSMB Makeover to all of them and add at least 4 games. But I'm not that disappointed though.

  • not only that but the disc could have had unlockable art, unlockable music and also unlockable newer games. there has been countless amounts of super mario games and all they can do is put an snes cart on a disc. This is completely disappointing and the problem with this is they wanted to throw something together to make money. Fuck man they could have put every mario game on the disc so basically this sucks ass and its fucking pathetic. Thats my opinion lol and im sure 95% of everyone agrees

  • he makes a very solid point... this collection is shit. Its like taking a snes cart and putting it on a cd thats all. Also the art book is fucking rushed and useless it should ahve been hardcover and atleast 100 pages. The cd should have had much more music and frankly they could have fit a whole lot more super mario games on the cd or made 2 cds. its his 25th for fuck sakes.. how much space does a wii cd have and how much space does an snes cart take up?? you do the math. thansk for nothing

  • nintendo shouldve updated the graphics and added super mario world

  • I agree that they should've remade the games on the collection using the New Super Mario Bros. graphics. That would've made the price of admission pretty stellar. But, I got this game because even though I had the original SNES cartridge as a kid, and no longer have the game or system, it felt like it was worth my money. Soundtrack could've used more music, and the booklet could've had more history to reveal.

All in all, it's okay at best.

  • @TravisGoss2011 Here here bro!

  • When I got this, I was disappointed they didn't include Super Mario World. Not a big deal since you can download it from the VC, but eh. I'm a collector, so I got it mainly for the book and soundtrack.

  • new super mario world ? anyone?

  • @helhelhelhelo : yea, me!

  • Comment removed

  • Lazy

  • I agree Nintendo was lazy for this! THIS GAME IS A WASTE OF MONEY!

  • i feel like a nerd for noticing this but one of the games next to the NES is tennis

  • They needed to do a better job

  • I never had a SNES (or, in fact, any console until the Wii) so it was nice being able to get the All-Stars collection. That said, now I understand why the 16-bit versions never came to the VC, and it does kind of rub me the wrong way that they did this. OTOH, I got my copy for around $26, and at the usual going rate for SNES games all four would have come out to $32 (or $33, if TLL counted as a Japanese-only release), so it actually comes out to a discount (not to mention the other goodies).

  • I was happy because my original game for the SNES crashed while I was moving to my new flat... so, yeah. I really happy to have them back like I had them in mind.

One big fire flower from me!

  • Im just happy to be able to play old school mario on my wii. I really dont give two shits about the packaging or even the soundtrack. And with the price of Wii games i think 30 dollars is just fine.

  • Agree with you on everything, though it is quite the collectors item. They shouldve had a longer book, a much bigger CD with about i dont know, 25 songs from the series and like 5 sfx or none at all. The games, i honestly prefer the original 8-bits to the 16bit remakes, and they shouldve made it come with Super Mario World.

  • maybe do a better thing on zeldas 25th aniversary

  • I never had an SNES myself, so I was really happy just getting the SNES game on a Wii disk, even though I thought that Nintendo should have also included Siper Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Land, Super Mario Land 2, Super Mario Kart/Kart64/Dubble Dash/Tennis/Golf/Baseball/Strikers/PaperMario and all the other mario games from the NES to the Gamecube.

  • nintendo, as a thank you to the millions of super mario fans, should've given this collection away...but, since its all about the money for the big N, they had to sell it for 30 bucks...

its so ironic that a disappointing release is now sold out in most stores, and if ever you find one at an online store, its horribly overpriced now...

  • What a joke, they didn't do much. They really half-assed this, they took Mario All Stars, threw it on the Wii for 30$, then added some fancy packaging, a half assed CD with music people probably already downloaded off gaming sites and the like and a book wich people could find more info on Mario from the internet.

  • @SakuraAvalon agreed. the game could have at least been the newer version of Mario All-Stars that had Mario World on it too.

  • i hope this year make a 25 aniversary of zelda the first game was released on 21 of february of 1986 put like on this if u wanted too :D

  • This Package seems like a total rip-off to me. Yeah Super Mario All-Stars is great and all, but for the price they charge for this thing, it just isn't worth it. They could have sold All-Stars on the Virtual Console for a lot less, the extra price for the disappointing extras just makes this a highly overpriced virtual console title. If the game would cost 8 dollars on VC, then you are paying mostly for a 32 page pamplet, and half a soundtrack. Screw you Nintendo!

  • Well the bad thing with gaming companies those days is that they release many collector editions just to make some extra buck! I was see this package in a store yesterday and i totaly disapointed as well now that i see it opened! Though it is allot cheaper from other collectors editions its games that ican play them even in a snes emulation!

  • LOL Gaming in the Clinton Years.

Anyway too bad the packaging is pretty lame if you already have the SNES cartridge. Oh yeah and I have both versions. The one without Super Mario World and the one with it.

  • Sadly, Nintendo spent more time on the packaging than they did on the content of the game.

  • What I think, Derek? Well... After been deprived of Super Mario Bros since I abandoned Nintendo (with the GameCube, not long ago), I think this game is one of the most powerful reasons to buy a Wii... and to play GC games on the same console, of course (Go, Ikaruga!)

  • Why do people keep thinking that Nintendo only cares about money?

  • WHY IS SHE SHOUTING!?

  • @clongoram dude, it's a dude

  • @clongoram I HAVE NO IDEA!!

  • Oh dear god thats one ugly lady!!

  • genesis does what nintendon't

  • just goes to show, video game companies care about easy money, they dont care about the fans at all.

  • @OverruledDood

And you saying this because you're butthurt over Nintendo not releasing a full new game for the 25th anniversary?

  • @Cheetah1251 haha, butthurt? about mario? yeah fucking right. im just saying game companies dont give a shit what you think.

  • @OverruledDood

If that was true then SMG2 would never exist :]

  • @Cheetah1251 actually, they made a second one because the first one sold so well. has nothing to do with the fans

this also applies to every game ever made.

  • I was born the year the original all-stars came to super nintendo, so i didnt really grew up with these games, i have played smb 2 and 3 but to me, this was great purchase, it wasnt really that high price either but your absolutely right Derek, there could have been more.

  • Does the package at least include Mario's long resumé? He wasn't always a plumber you know. He wasn't even always a good guy either.

  • anyone else noticed how this game is all of a sudden like 80 bucks?!?!? i bought it for 30....thats a crazy jump in price....i guess it really was LIMITED edition!!

  • guys be thankful for what u get u shold be lucky to have this if u dont care ur a greedy lil pussy so if ur so sad tht u could get it with smw or with newer graphics nintendo wanted to give us a classic reborn so shut the fuck up and thank them for 25 years of pwnage and stop being greedy pussies

  • I totally agree with EmeraldWarrior420. No thought nor heart was put into this at all. Nintendo cheated the hearts of all their die hard Mario fans. This collectors addition is packed with a lot of disappointment. The book is nothing but a big fat lie. There was only 25% of Mario's history. What about his special cameo appearances, his gameboy tittle's, and his spin off games? Nintendo gave this game out for free before, why are they making trying to make a quick buck now?

  • Why are you yelling?

  • I love Mario games but honestly you could just do the homebrew channel download to play these games I meen yeah Mario all stars is awesome I still have it on my super mrs which still works but if nintindo were gonna make a history game on Mario for the wii they atleast could have put more options or updated graphics or atleast add super Mario world but I still support your video my friend

  • ur hairs awesome!!! u have the best job evar!!

  • if they made the graphics like the new super mario brothers wii it would of been an amazeing experiance to go through again as if it was the original not to say the original is bad just to say it would be amazeing to relive it in another way

  • i totaly find it funny that ign said the same thing and everyone hates them for not giving it a 10

  • I'm not dissapointed in the game itself but Nintendo could have done a lot more. They could have either updated the graphics like you said or added some more games to the set. Maybe they could have added Mario World 1 and 2, Mario 64 and or Mario Sunshine. And they should have made a a bigger hard cover book with more pages and info in it. That little book is ok but it would have been nicer if it were larger and had more in depth info.

  • Derek's Hawt

  • I agree with Derek, i think this game could have been much better, it would have been awesome to remake this entire collection with the latest NSMB Wii engine, that would give the game a fresh look.

  • I'm pretty pleased with this. I'm old school but haven't ever played all stars. The reasons I'm getting this is for the lost levels and the blow your head off with awesomeness packaging.

  • Holy shit it's Shaun White O.O

  • The booklet is what disappointed me the most. The "insight" from Miyamoto was so superficial it could have been written by literally anyone. But to be honest I didn't have much of a problem with this package as a whole, especially because it wasn't a full priced release.

  • I like that they are on 16bit, though it would have been great to play them in the NSMB graphics. I would have liked that they added Super mario world and Yoshi's Island aswell. There should have been 2 CDs one with all the best music (around 20 0r 25 songs) and the other with the best sound effects. The booklet should have had more insight on every game, and more info on Miyamoto. Overall, a good package, it's fun it's great, but it could have been better, it dose...ah crap no more spacetowrite

  • I honestly don't care much about the CD, however I was severely disappointed with the Artbook. I was looking forward to more concept art, after all, I thought they would have commentary about how it all began. It's unfortunate that they didn't do that.

  • i might get it for x-mas :D

The point is the price that could be a fact for you to avoid this game. It might be great, specially if you have a classic controller to have the option for a snes-ish feeling.

The collection's good on it's own right. The collection could've been a gamer boner-maker if it had like 25 mario games on bits form; or the same 4 games with newer graphics, and better extra content.

I saw the genesis collection on 360,... genesis does what nintendon't :-(

  • The content is rather thin, but the packaging is definitely nice.

  • Why does he have to be so hot!? ><

  • Back in the day I had a special Super Mario All Stars Game that included Super Mario World in the game. All I can about the Wii version is that it's cool for future newcomers of Mario games, just like how the original was good for people getting into Mario in the 16 Bit wars. But the classic gamers will feel kind of cheated if they get the game, unless they bought it for the art book and the CD.

  • Did Nintendo just do something cheap?

I'm feeling weird feelings I've never dealt with. What's going on Nintendo?

  • @mariomaruf Here's my theory of what's going on: After attracting new casual gaming audience's, Nintendo and third-party Wii developers decide to take advantage of the fact that casual gamers don't scrutenize(spelling?) about their games the way hardcore gamers do.

  • @FastTquick Continued from last comment: Ever wonder why the ratio of shovelware titles to good ones is so unbalanced? It's because casual gamers (A) are taken in by mini-game compilations starring some cute looking characters, (B) Are taken in by something with Mario on it, (C) do not research the quality of the games they buy by reading or watching game reviews.

  • @FastTquick But It's not like Nintendo to take advantage of the market when anyone might see it as ripping someone off or incomplete.

  • @mariomaruf Exactly. That's what makes this instance so jarring to gamers. Casual gamers wouldn't care much that the four games included in this compilation don't take up more than 50 MB on the disc, as long as they are great Mario games, they're going to sell.

  • nintendo just wanted to lay back and celebrate with out worrying about the fans while eating some pizza or something

  • the echo destroys the production value of this video. use a wireless microphone or a shotgun mic to make the audio clearer.

  • they at least have all stars on wii now

    dam vc

  • I don't know if I should buy this. . . .this game doesn't have "a guy in body armor shooting a silver hawk in the chest with a laser beam"

  • I got the snes cart that has all those games plus super mario world. why didnt they put mario world on there?? cheap bastards!!

  • did you get kicked really really hard in your groin when you were younger? :S

  • I picked this up because it is a limited edition packaging, I never owned the original All Stars game, and I thought the soundtrack and history booklet would be cool. With that said, I agree with your assessment of the package, the soundtrack could have contained way more songs instead of sound effects, the booklet should have had more in depth information on Mario, and the game should have been revamped. They could have easily added in SM World, SM 64, and SM Sunshine to the game.

  • I prefer the 16-bit versions over the 8-bit versions. You get a HOTT Kiss from Princess Peach once you save her at the end of two of the games. Thus making the 30$ purchase all worth the while.

  • as smart as they are, I was really hoping Nintendo would make like a $150,00 box with every single Mario game in history, and the old ones updated. I would buy this right away rather than this 29 dollar insignificant package.

  • the package could have been better

  • lol i always thought you were like 13 guess not lopl

  • Nice review, and honest, totally agree in every way. Still... Im confident Nintendo will announce something soon to make up for this, I just have a feeling about it.

The CD is lame, harsh but true, fair enough idea, but rushed and no love poured into it. The silliest thing is that the sound effects are on a CD of all media sources, its just awkward doing that, especially considering we have the likes of youtube and OCremix for that kind of thing, shoul have been all game music in my opinion. 2CD

  • OMG! I would never have thought you'd look like this.

I thought you would be hotter ( sorry Derek :( )

  • NOO my vision of Derek is gooown xD

  • I hate the New Super Mario Bros. engine. I'm glad they left it alone.

  • @MrDeathSmiles

what do you not like about it? I think the movement is a lot more fluid and smooth, or is that a bad thing?

  • @MrDeathSmiles why, i love it!

  • @bazfanv2 Go suck off an indian!

  • You're right. Those bastards at Nintendo sh*t all over Mario, Derek! All over! lol

  • Nintendo is often the subject of disappointment. Like the red Nintendo Wii not having any symbol of being the 25 birthday edition.

  • I have all stars on the snes too but this package is a great collectors item and it's cheap

  • Could have done so much more than this. I've got the original SMB All-Stars on my SNES still, but it would have been awesome to have all of the original 2D sidescrollers with the New SMB graphics as he said. Would have also have been cool if they threw in an updated Super Mario World and Super Mario Kart... just sayin'...

  • @lewisj82 the problem with this , you lose the nostalgia

  • They should of improved the graphics, I agree. That would of been so cool to play the old Mario games with smoother and better graphics, especially after seeing that the wii could have great graphics like New super Mario Wii, Galaxy 1 and 2, and Super Smash Bros Brawl.

  • AHHHHHHHHHHHH dont hold the disk like that ! Stretches out hand! nooooo

  • Comment removed

  • I agree that Nintendo should have done a lot more with this to make it really deserve that collector status. I feel like the CD and the booklet were rushed and, for me, they will just sit there and not get read or played. As for the game, I do agree they should have updated it with the New Super Mario engine. I think it would have really pushed the game over the top and would have made it more worthy of that collector status. I hope they don't fudge up next year with Zelda.

  • what? The american version of the red box looks much cooler.

  • I think it's something wrong with celebrating a 25 years anniversary by re-re releasing an 8 years younger remakes.

I got mixed feelings about this. I want to like it but it feels so cheep and lazy from Nintendo... But I still bought it. Even Sega gave us more with there Sonic Mega Collection and Sonic Gems Collections! And Sonic didn't even have to turn 25 for that!

  • A little on the light side but everyone is going to but it regardless.

  • It should at least have contained World or 64.

  • I sold my cartridge version and now play it off a floppy disk on my ufo super drive. i'm kinda sad...

  • Not good enough.

    Disappointing!

But im still gonna buy it :/

  • Your voice doesn't match the way you look...at all.

  • Your voice is really good for reviews i never get bored :D

  • Not only does the Wii have graphics the SNES couldn't even wish to display, it has the capacity to include all Super Mario games including Donkey Kong, Mario Bros, through Nintendo 64. Including Mario World, Yoshi Island, and the Game Boy Mario Land games. I'd buy that!

  • I have the cartridge version of this game and it's so weird to see the Super Mario All-Stars logo like this on the box :p

  • Hell no it didn't give Mario a proper birthday celebration. They lazily pulled out a copy of SM-All-Stars for SNES and put it on a DVD. I don't care so much about updated graphics, they look fine the way they are. But they could have used all that extra space for Super Mario World and Super Mario 64, and even Super Mario Land 1 & 2. Hell, there WAS a later release of the original SNES cartidge that DID include Super Mario World. If a SNES cartridge could do it, no doubt a DVD could.

  • Comment removed

  • I know, right? Nintendo didn't seem to put much effort into SMAS Limited Edition, not even by including an extra game or two. Not to say I won't be happy with it, as I'm getting it for Christmas, but heck - my fave video game character deserved better than this, in this age of technology.

Sega and Sonic Team are trying to celebrate their mascot's 20th birthday next year in a more practical way with a special brand-new game, 'Sonic Anniversary,' but that's Sega.

  • @EmeraldWarrior420 i agree. this set should have had these four games, super mario world, super mario land, and super mario 64. those are the games that MADE mario. and isn't that this package is about? how mario was made. and yeah sure maybe better graphics on the originals but whatever

and with the extras, more again. more from the creators, more drawings, and more music.

i still got it because i wanted the lost levels and i am a die hard mario fan.

  • @EmeraldWarrior420

But Super Mario World was already on VC.

  • The soundtrack is pretty bad, I wanted things like level music not just the menu themes.

& the history booklet looks more like one of those advertising slips you get in most Games & DVDs.

  • It sure looks nice, but the overall result looks rushed, lazy and uninspired. Like, really, a SNES cartridge and nothing else dumped to a DVD? That's overkill to say the least, and 10 tracks and 10 sound effects are laughable at best, since Mario 64 has an entire memorable soundtrack and that alone has more than 10 tracks in it (in a goddamn cartridge!). Where's the flagship polish from Nintendo? This is like SEGA releasing yet another Sonic Classics Collection for Sonic's 20th anniversary!

  • I wonder if they were torn between preserving the classic and modernizing it. Frankly there's no reason they couldnt put some effort into it and make a SMB:Wii version with a SNES ROM slapped beside it.

  • A SNES rom on a DVD. Thanks Nintendo.

  • @Ironscimitar cuz I can't do that by myself...?

  • whooaaa.... his voice does not go with his looks lol...

  • old schoolers lol....im guessin the oldest one of you 3 is 22...lol old schoolers

  • The audio cd should have been vinyl. like a badass mario picture disk.that would have been really awesome and retro.

  • god i love that goofy little plumer

  • The reason the booklet is small is because they aimed it at a children and the kids dont care, but i gess they never thought about us older fans?

  • I don't know, it is a disappointment but since I know longer have the Super Mario All-Stars game for the SNES I'll take the Wii version, plus I do think the booklet is pretty cool.

  • all I can say is SMB 1 2 3 I only played on the NES and the Wii store dlc so I am happy with this version that they gave us I got SMB 123 plus the lost levels on 1 disc and for me upgraded graphics to 16 bit from 8 bit so I am happy but if you want to be a stickler Nintendo could of crammed this dvd with every Mario game from NES, SNES and N64 and I would of paid 59.99 no problem!

  • Muito Loko!!!!!!!!!!

    BRASUK PORRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

  • since when did wierd AL review video games?

  • When it comes to the CD, I was looking forward to something in the vein of The Beatles' "Love.". I don't mean having mash-ups of themes all over the catalogue (though that would be cool), but proper use of short sound clips as segways would've gone a long way.

Still, as I've been saying, this would be something great to buy or give as a gift with a classic controller pro.

  • this such a rip off and i'm glad somebody on a gaming channel admits it I mean its only a 10 mb game on a DVD! this collection should have mario world ateast , i cant believe it didnt have world! I would have also liked to see yoshis island mario rpg paper mairo mario land 1,2,3 mario kart super mario 64 and even sunshine and paper mario 2 mario vs donkey kong that would have made this worth it
  • I actualy was disapointed in the Original Mario Allstars. Of cause it´s not bad and all, but i would have loved to see the Original Grafiks and Original Music (!!!) in this collection aswell.

All in all you get four very good games, so there should not be to much complaining about it.. for this r-release they maybe should have added the two SNES Titles... but ho cares, i got no Wi and all the original Cartridges. :-D

  • OMG, you look nothing like what I thought!!!

  • @TimmehSnydeh he looks worse with a haircut if you seen him in a hat

  • You're right. They should've done what you said. They could give the graphics a New Super Mario Bros Wii update. They also could've have 3-CDs worth of music. 2 for songs and the third for sound effects. They also could've made that booklet have more words and stuff besides the words in there. Then maybe this game would've been liked better by hardcore fans.

  • Thank for informing me before i bought it id be pissed especially since it's the same game i played back in 93/94. it's cool though CGRU is awesome ill just play the old school versions on my wii.

  • You guys need some rugs or something in that garage, the acoustics are awful!

  • @adventurebloc no kidding that echo was bugging the crap out of me

  • They should have added a few other games and called it All Stars 2. I dont see why they couldnt have added Mario Brothers and Donkey Kong arcade ports.

  • The guys from Undertow are the men

  • Don't buy this. Get a super nintendo and buy the actual game. You'll feel a lot better about yourself then.

  • @raptoryan96 i have got allstats+world one of the best games ever

  • @raptoryan96 Spend more money to get the same game? What a brilliant idea!

  • i dont think i want it anymore, maybe in the 30 year anniversery they might hook it up with the Wii graphics or maybe if they have a new counsole, ( which i hope not, but still i'll get it. )

  • This package was disappointing, but I still bought it because I'm a HUGE Mario fan and this will be a major collectors item.

    The package should have included:

    - New Super Mario bros. style remakes of 1, 2, 3, Lost Levels, World, and 64 (galaxy style graphics for 64).

    - CD(s) with original and remixed versions of classic Mario tunes (scrap the sound effects).

    - Very indepth booklet (100+ pages, and hard cover).

I would be willing to pay $100+ dollars for a bundle like that.

  • Gotta agree with the review. The most disappointing aspect is that Nintendo didn't update the games with the NSMBW engine. It would have been an All-Star Edition of All-Stars had they done that....

  • It would've been nice if they had all the soundtracks in one song. And 9 other great songs. :/

  • in a word, dissapointing, this is pretty much a rushed and uninspired release, raging for the money instead for the fanservice, nintendo got lazy this time, ¿what happened?, I mean, I had back in the day the original game, also super mario world and smw2, those booklets were fantastic, not to mention the incredible package that was mario paint, now, we have a set of photos that don't have too much to do one with each other, a cd that is an insult and a game that I played almost 10 years ago. =(

  • I definitely won't be getting this thing. They put no effort into this, and just wanted to cash in. Please.

  • more like a 25th anniversary crapafest. I love mario bros but it's lame for a 25 anniversary box.

  • I own Mario 1, 2, 3 but not the real mario 2 AKA:the lost levels so I can buy that for $6 on wii shop so I would be wasting $25 on that but only $20 if you count the goodies.

So it would be a bad deal for me but still for the goodies I don't konw.

  • Awesome hair

    Awesome voice

    Awesome enthusiasm

    Awesome review

    Disappointing game...

  • @techcrazyguy You forgot Awesome Shirt

  • This package sucks. I actually celebrated marios 25th by playing the snes cartridge of all stars :)
