  • I would imagine those motors make some 50-60 horsepower, maybe even more...

  • Loveeeeee the motor

  • Love these old QUIET DC motors.... This is the kind of stuff one would find in my Audel's technical books from the 1930s... :)

  • Are that DoverDisc? :p EcoDisc in Dover style? :p

  • @TheEcoDisc No... these are very old machines they were installed by haughton elevator back in the 50's / 60's dover updated them to computerized machines but still use the original motor!

  • I LOVE the sound of those generators!

  • I would agree this is a gear less traction machine as well. The commutator appears to be parallel with the sheave, as whereby a geared machine the motor would be perpendicular to the sheave w/the gear box. The bearing block supporting

the commutators end of the motor shaft mounts to the base. With a geared machine the motor is generally "stand-alone" with a housing. Mounts to the top or base of the gear/box, drive sheave.

  • Very nice video!!

  • i just found out that these motors are the original motors that were installed when the building first opened!

  • im pretty sure its gearless! the saftey systems are a half floor below the motor.. i have pictures of the current system and pictures of the vintage system thats no longer operational but the controllers and old Beacon slicer type systems

  • Thanks, and I guess this is a gearless elevator?

  • Very awesome!
