By the way : i don't like those "préjugés" against French people, it's true that some French don't speak english fluently (some don't even speak it) but when i went to the USA/UK i didn't find anyone speaking french either !!! I think in EU countries it is easier to find someone who speaks french/italian/spanish/german since we are very close (in a geographical way).

@Nyaprod ...although it's true that little french people are interested in learning another language (they usually say 'we're in france, so let's speak french', which I find deeply stupid. On an other hand, those same people would try to speak the best they can if you need some help. But let's admit that their level is generally low and their accent, chaotic.

BTW, I'm not sure that I would easily find an American to speak Spanish with ...while it is a language taught at school.

I speak fluent english and spanish, and I've settled in Russia three weeks ago in order to learn the language. When I am 20, I'll be able to speak 4 languages. By the way, I'm French. And I learned everything on my own, reading lots of newspapers, dictionnaries, grammar books, websites and most of all, talking to natives from other countries. Deal with it - everyone in France is not the way you described.

@Nyaprod i am sorry but it is absolutly not true. french students have to learn at least 2 languages at shcool which is not the case in the usa. the fact that they are not good at it dosen't mean that french people want to "stick to their language no matter what". it's just that the pedagogy used in the learning of languages is quite poor in france. and actually, i've noticed how in paris, american or british tourists doesn't make any efforts to speak french.
