Wow sooo tired of seeing "Im this old and i listen to good music, pat me on the back" comments everywhere. Nobody cares how old you are. Music doesn't care how old/young you are.
Some of you out there have prurient, dirty minds, that can ruin your appreciation of art. (To insaninater: "Me & Julio down by the Schoolyard" is NOT about Gay sex! If you've ever been a boy, or knows one, who ever had a best friend, then you might understand that song. Get your mind out of the gutter - Paul Simon is an artist!
paul simon singing about resisting temptation?, just seems weird because over in one of his other songs he sings about either smoking pot or having gay sex in a schoolyard
She married a child molester / drug addict / theif / violent criminal he stole my playstation bought crack with it got high in the bathroom then came into my room wearing a speedo and tried to seduce / rape me.

Great story (suamigadelsoi). I lost my mother about 3 years ago. Still miss her strongly.Treasure your memories & give your flowers while folx are still alive to smell 'em. This song reminds me of Sunday mornings with my Mom getting us ready for church. Hated it then (what kid wants to gt up early on Sunday or go to church), but I treasure those memories now. Thanx 4 posting.
My son got married 1 yr ago. At the reception the bride danced with her dad. All of a sudden before 300 people, my son came up to me, asked me to dance. This took me by surprise. We moved to the front and before all present, this song She Loves Me Like a Rock began. My son had chosen this song to dance with me at his wedding. He knows how much I love him, how we've both been there for each other, through good and hard times. May he always know of my deep love. His name is Parker.
@suamigadelsol As a wedding minister, I told my son when gets married I want to dance with him to this song. I'm glad your son loves you so much that he showed everyone with this song.
honestly i like the version he sang in the muppet show better. this sounds good but when he sang this song in the muppet show, it was much more upbeat and electric guitar.
I agree with some of the other comments here, this song reminds me of my childhood and my mama!!! Brings me happiness just to hear and sing this song.
Tis song always brings rears to my eyes and makes my lower lip quiver. I'm not a man, but my mom loves me. I am now 54 years old and have children and grandchildren. I love each and everyone of them like a rock.. I can't cou nt how many times I got down on my knees and hugged each and everyone of them! I can only hope that one day they will appreciate this song.
When this song came out, people were wondering if the last verse "If I was the President..." was Paul's commentary about Watergate, but Paul said that while he did have Nixon in mind, he wrote the song before the break-in.
@fruntbach I believe tomcwa is correct in his reference to unconditional love, but the direct answer to your question is in the song itself. The speaker's mother's love is so strong she "rocks me like the Rock of Ages." Of course, Rock of Ages is how a traditional hymn refers to Jesus Christ. Comparing his "mama's" love to Jesus' love -- which is the ultimate -- is in keeping with the song's imitation of a gospel tune, and the inclusion of the Dixie Hummingbirds as background singers.
@NYerintransit I wasn't doubting your spelling, I was doubting your understanding of the word's meaning. Someone calling this song by this musician "pretentious" seems awfully silly. This isn't Kanye West, this is Paul Simon.
@BigMikeMcBastard "This isn't Kanye West, this is Paul Simon." What's that supposed to mean? That someone gets a free pass because of which generation they're from? In any case, I've said that I still love this song, so I don't know what we're arguing about.
@pinkemerald this song reminds me of my dad.... when my dad left my mom..... this is the 1st song i heard when that happened...... im still upset about it...... almost everything in this song reminds meh of him..... i was 9 years then and now im 14 going onto 15..... i miss my dad....
This song came on while i was driving home after work.. All i could do was start bouncing and swaying side to side, singing as loud as i could :D
All the other drivers might appreciate if Paul Simon doesn't come on the radio anymore. But who would want that? Now, "Who do, who do you think your foolin' ?" :)
she love me love me love me love me...my mama loves me she loves me...she get down on her knees an hug me and she loves me like a rock...great thing is even the kids a little punk to the rest of the world mama would still love like a rock. <3
Paul Simon is one of the most underated, unrecognized artists of all time.(blows my mind that this only has 126k views)
The man is sheer genius. This is one of those ageless songs that's relevant to everyone. It was great when it first came out, it's great today, and it will still be great, forever. I never get tired of hearing it. Think I'll give it another listen....
I think of all songs ever written this one touches more souls than any other. I play this song several times a week harmonizing (in my opinion) in baritone, to the backup vocals. The whole time my head filled my favorite moments with my Mom. For people not as blessed to have those memories, instead of listening to this with a heavy heart , be inspired to be "the rock" in the lives of the people you love. This may mean starting with yourself. Happy Mother's to all moms. Love ya like a rock Mom
As a child, you learn true unconditional love from your Mother first. Her love is the rock and foundation on which you will build your character and ability to love others. She meets you where you are, comes down to your level and loves you, hugs you and lets you know with a kiss you are worthy. Who else can better prepare you to understand Gods great love for you, than your Mother?
send good thoughts my way. My church choir is singing this for Mothers Day this sunay, and we just started working on it yesterday. Thankfully I can listen to it on line here, and try to get my part as well as i can.
I grew up without a mother, 'who loved me like a rock.' But as I grew and life has gone on since, I have learned to love other people like a rock; brothers, sisters, and children.
@OneEyedKeys Sad for you. I had a mum who didn't show she loved by kissing, hugging or letting me sit on her knee but I knew she loved me by the things she did for me. She was not shown love as a youngster, the very opposite so never learnt TILL I gave her grandchildren. Then she grew into someone I had never seen before. Could not keep her hands off my children, told them she loved them, kissed them constantly and was the best gran. I loved watching her blossom. RIP darling mum, I love you.
@Jules91961 -Yes, we love them like a Rock, even when they throw stones, or don't even bother to open mail, return calls, etc...this reply will probably drive young people crazy like it would've done me when both this song and I were young. And I'm not a Jewish mother, but I sure do understand the stereotype now ("My son, the Ph.D. mathematics student, who can't pick up the phone and call his mother").
In his earlier song "I Am a Rock" he used the rock concept to symbolize isolation-but when he says his mama LOVES him like a rock he doesn't seem isolated at all.
ain't no rap music will ever top this stuff. those morons think they have the world by the balls but they don't have any idea what real music is. all they can do is flap their lips and mumble a bunch of trash. im so glad rap is dying. it will teach those losers not to fuck around...
@daddyishot2 Hey man, why the hate? It's true that good rap music is difficult to find but that doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. And if you don't like the genre, that doesn't give you the right to piss all over it, just don't listen to it. Personally, I think Paul Simon was a genius, and we both know that what he does will never die. I guess I just don't understand why different genres of music can't coexist peacefully.
@gdoss108 , i piss all over rap music because there isn't any good rap that you can call music period. all those losers do is flap their fat lips and mumble a bunch of trash to brain wash the younger generation into believing something that should have never been allowed to be wasted on time recording in a studio.
This song reminds me of my mom; it was one of her favorite songs. She used to rock me on her lap in rhythm to this song while kissing me on the nose. My mom passed at the age of 45, when I was only 10 years old. Even though she rocked me years ago, I will never forget how beautiful she looked when she held me : ) I really miss my mother.
@pinkemerald1970 wow, that was so sad...touched my heart :( sorry to hear about your mum, hope this and other paul simon songs bring a smile to your face :) bless you xx
One of the greatest from Paul! Which is hard to say, 'cause everything he did was phenomenal. I've got this cranked up, and I'm dancing around like a bear! I love this song like a rock!
My mom is a geologist, meaning she studies rocks....my brother and I would blast this song when my mom was in the car and laugh because if Mom loved us like a rock (and she did, and still does) (I think) (kidding! of course she does!) then we had to be really special ^_^ good times
Awsome song!! Im doing a project in languge arts where we have to pick a song and write a essay on what the lyrics in the song are telling you like " love me as a rock" and i picked this song!!! LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!
I always loved this song. When my younger brother was 4 and I was playing this record, he turned and asked me if this song was about him. LoL, I just yes it was! A very good memory.
When I was maybe 12(if not younger?),I was hearing this for the 1st time,i was thinking:Hey(self),this singerguy's voice sounds somewhat familiar to me.And,yes,of course,he was the well,we 40sters(like me)and maybe30sters know the2combined last names of a certain folk group. And was that a gospel group on backup vocals?
boy they just dont make music like this anymore,Paul Simon sang from his heart and soul.i can remember as a child, being so in love with Paul Simon, and Art Garfunkal music.
@mbboco...Yes well i wouldn't mind being a mother but something keeps getting in the way & i'm pretty sure it's my extremely large penis. Also, i have no idea...i've never done cocaine but i bet there's nothing "poor" about that habit. Finally i can't imagine why anyone would love me considering I HATE HUMANITY. Love my comments or hate them...at least you felt something.
Paul simon is just one of the best. Think of the steadyness in the rock of gibraltar...thats a lot of love.

ain't no rap music will ever top this stuff. those morons think they have the world by the balls but they don't have any idea what real music is. all they can do is flap their lips and mumble a bunch of trash. im so glad rap is dying. it will teach those losers not to fuck around...
daddyishot2 1 year ago
@daddyishot2 Hey man, why the hate? It's true that good rap music is difficult to find but that doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. And if you don't like the genre, that doesn't give you the right to piss all over it, just don't listen to it. Personally, I think Paul Simon was a genius, and we both know that what he does will never die. I guess I just don't understand why different genres of music can't coexist peacefully.
gdoss108 1 year ago 2
@gdoss108 , i piss all over rap music because there isn't any good rap that you can call music period. all those losers do is flap their fat lips and mumble a bunch of trash to brain wash the younger generation into believing something that should have never been allowed to be wasted on time recording in a studio.

@daddyishot2 fat lips? racial comment? Anyways, there is clearly no reasoning with people like you. Bye now.

This song is about cocaine.
TheSkuLLcomedyShow 1 year ago
@TheSkuLLcomedyShow You are obviously not a mom and possibly no one loved you like a rock. So you have cocaine, a poor substitute.
mbboco 1 year ago
@mbboco...Yes well i wouldn't mind being a mother but something keeps getting in the way & i'm pretty sure it's my extremely large penis. Also, i have no idea...i've never done cocaine but i bet there's nothing "poor" about that habit. Finally i can't imagine why anyone would love me considering I HATE HUMANITY. Love my comments or hate them...at least you felt something.
