amazing quality btw.............do u put the little chip thing in the comp then it uploads cuz it looks confusing and also did u like have to get it to diffrent setting to get the quality that good or does it just come that good??? cuz i wana get 1
I'm curious: I'm interested in purchasing a used GS400, but with the influx of HD technology, do you think it would still be a good investment? Because of the transitions into HD, would it be future proofing my footage, or will the overall quality of the GS400 prevail? What do you figure?
Hi, I would recommend getting a canon hv20 or 30 now as the picture quality is superior to the gs400..the gs400 is a nice camcorder but the canons picture is crisp and HD which gives you plenty to play with if your outputing to SD.
I just checked out a HD clip shot with a sr12and it looks great and I would say that they look equal at first glance. the sr12 record's to hard disk and the hvs record to dv tape so i guess you have to decide whats more convenient, also hv20s are very cheap these days which would also leave some money spare for accessories.
Thanks, the original file is 320 x 240 compressed with windows media 9 codec at 4000kbps @ 30fps..but that was when youtube didnt have the high quality option. If you upload a full size resolution (720x576) clip at 4000kbps you will get good quality. If you watch the video response called " The Krate Krusaders feat Jargon Live @ UPSU - 14th April 08'" that was a HDV clip I uploaded at 1440x1080 and youtube handled it fine.
Thank you so much for those specs, you've really inspired me to go that extra mile on my clips.
I've had a gs400 for a few years now and love it to bits, picked up a second hand one today at a pawn shop so I'm real happy about the possibilities of working with two angles.
I have a question, ist the pixel pattern that seems to come through on some shots the ground glass or the codec? and did you use a static or vibrating diy adapter? and did you seem to have problems setting the flange focal range, cause some of the shots seem out of just about out of focus. The shots itself are rad. Nice athmosphere.
I think the pixel pattern is the compression by youtube. my adapter is a vibrating one. the focal flange is actually set when you build the adapter, its the distance between the gg (ground glass) and the lens. The reason why some shots will be slightly out is because all focusing is done manually and its hard to judge the distance if you are stationery and the subject is moving.
Cool, thnx for the reply. Yea sure. Just thought if you built the thing yourself, you might have set the gg slightly off, so you dont get infinity right orso. cheers again
How much did it cost to make the dof adapter? and also does the image record upside down and stuff? can you just fix that in post production? i have a gs500 and want depth of field really bad.
Great Shots!!!!, what software did you use to get it YouTube ready? Im using quicktime and I cant seem to get the settings right. I make it 320 x 240, 2000kbs, H.264, deinterlace, single pass, and it still doesnt look as sharp as your material. Do you sharper before you place it on YouTube, can you please share details on the codec you're using and the settings for placing on YouTube. Great job lots of good colors.
Hi, I just ordered DIY 35mm adaptor. I've got Panasonic GS500 camcorder - so, it's simmilary to you. Your movie test is realy cool. Did you used some post-production? (for vivid colors)... Thanks for answer
I think also Magic Bullets plug-in is great for 35mm adapter. Great for color corrections and support film-look effect. However I have to wait for my DYI 35mm adaptor. In fact I can't sleep almost :)
One, last question. How you solved problem with inverted picture? It have to be hard to film anything when you see inverted (left-right+top-bottom) picture ... ?
I actually filmed the footage above all inverted which was difficult cus I only had the adapter for around a month, its easier when you use a tripod. I now have a small PMP connect through avi in and monitor through that. I have a canon HV20 now so I need HD solution now.
Loved your video. Great job. post more videos.
