  • Right when you added that orange color... awesome.

  • hardcore

  • You're a freak Verhasselt.... A freak i say...

  • You have DeviantART?

  • I think that's very neat - how you use your old speedpaintings as textures for the new one.

  • JE-SUS CHRIST!!! THATS ALL I HAVE 2 SAY. I WANTED TO READ ALL THE COMMENTS BUT THEN I DIDN'T WANNA MISS THE CLIP. THE ONLY OTHER THING I HAVE 2 SAY IS WELL DONE! KEEP GOING AT IT PLEASE!!!!!

  • Epic. I have so many ideas in my head, visions of architecture i want to manifest like this. But i can only do it on paper slowly.. Or extrememly slowly on photoshop before giving up. I have to learn how to paint so surefooted and instantly. The shading and lighting comes to me but i just can't transcribe it. How do you even start. I have adobe photoshop elements 7.

  • @duploman1000 i think a good help is to try and play around with brushes. i did that. just let some weird or funny brushes create interesting shapes. try and be instant as u say, and don't care too much about detail at first and see how some brushes almost pick the subject for u....just to get a feel of what brushes can do for u.

play with transparency, background overlay and fun stuff like that, and don't commit yourself to a finished product at first.

  • @duploman1000 (cont) and some brushes have textures that are good for rocks. go with that and u may find yourself making the inside walls of a cave, or a waterfall. some brushes are good for vegetation, go with that and maybe u find u are making the outline of a forest. don't think too much about it.

but the brushes are a big part of photoshop. get to know them and they will help u tremendously.

i can recommend David Levy and his video: "from speedpainting to concept art"

  • @CT2507 Your advice is good. I'll check out the video too, Thanks.

  • @duploman1000 u are welcome. and as soon as u get some feel for a couple of good brushes that u like working with, get into layers. start with just 2-3 layers at first. u dont need more in the beginning. just to get a feel for the dynamics of painting in layers. later, layers will become natural and fast.

check out some utube tuts on how to paint with layers.

    cheers.

  • @franklinlevy rofl dude how can you compare matthias and nico di mattia ? are you serious ?

Matthias is one of the best painters there is out there.

  • Love how you do it - nothing prearranged, loose and fluid, trying things .. very inspiring.

  • awesome !! just one question :

How times did you accelerate ?

ty and have a nice day ! :)

  • Damn, I wish I was this good. All of my attempts always wind up looking like utter crap. >.>

  • (0_0) GREAT, GREAT, GREAT, GREAT...!!!

  • your art is great, im still a beginner hope 2 going as far as you,

    great artist you are.

  • Awsome!

  • I'm starting to think that the more pro you get at painting, the less you need to use lineart at the beginning of a drawing...

  • hey was just wondering what settings you use with your speed painting works ?

also, THATS AWSOME , fukim jelous lol

  • how do you record a speed painting?

  • Use a screen recording software like Camtasia studio.

  • How many it occupies real time?

  • That was amazing O.O some music may help for the vid :D

  • this is really incredible!! I love the feel to it, the atmosphere!!!!!!

  • Very cool, man! Great atmosphere! Perhaps I'm wrong, but I think the perspective of the left protruding part of the building is a bit inconvincing.

  • only this three words: amazing, incredible, great!!!!

  • He is helping out with the new diablo game?? Holy shit he HAS to be great then!

  • so glad I found this vid again.....straight to my fav....the drawing style and the endresult are just amazing

  • COOL!

  • omg! lol he/she made it in 2007, now its 2009, quess how gr8 his/shes skill is now! nice drawing dude!

  • Mathias is a 'He'. I believe he's doign the concept work for the new Diablo game right now (he may already be finished it).

  • GOD!! this is AWESOME! I love this kind of drawing... And, can I download this pic somewhere?

  • you officially rock and have become one of my inspiriations I love it man that was awesome keep up the awesome work

  • your skill is amazing! The picture is very unique :D

  • I would love to be capable of doing this, but I have yet to learn a technique to do so.

  • Heh, I have only admiration for your skill.

Are you a part of any art forum, would like to see more of your work =)

  • he's is a part of conceptart(DOT)org

  • Cheers mate =)

  • wow. amazing.

  • Ha! And to think for a moment I thought that I was good at drawing, shame on me...

Amazing work, great theme, and I love the more freeform style. Bravo indeed!

  • wow man. that was good.

  • adorable

  • wtf?

    thats INSANE!!

  • i would bet that you've spent no more than 12 minutes NOT kicking ass at all things art...seriously insane, you're amazing.

i do some digital art...but without a tablet...its ridiculously hard...not that a tablet is a substitute for talent...

which you have too much of...

    O_o

  • I love the music....

  • dude ur like a madman how do u think of that stuff its sweet

  • Boze co za beznadzieja i beztalencie

  • i like his scenery paints.

  • I like this guys work much more than nico's, his art is much simpler and a lot more stylish. I generally prefer simpler art.

  • it's simpler because it's real speed painting, not just a time lapsed painting named "speed painting" like all the vids from di mattia.

  • but still, i woulds say, mattia is sick

  • a true artist learns from copying and further trancends by using his imagination, this is a true example of a professional artist, nico de mattia needs to make original ones, i know i do

  • You have a great talent and you're very good at perspective and coloring. I saw you had quite alot reference pics on your computer. I was wondering how long you have been speedpainting and when you started making art, did you copy from reference pics or create your own? Also, I'd like to hear some tips about a tablet for example. I own an aiptek a4 tablet and i find it a little too big. Would be appreciated if you could help me out here :P. PM me if you can. Great work

  • what soft ware is this

  • Photoshop... most likely CS2.

  • yes but Nico di Mattia usually copies from a source, this piece was from imagination, a true skill beyond skills, this piece is a fine example for artists.

  • lmao

  • you'll be a surprise? I feel sorry for you frank, you will never see Nico draw any thing that doesn't exist, he's good at copying a picture, but he cant draw from the imagination like Mathias. that's true skill.

  • and if u notice most of mathias's drawings r 20 mins ~ish im sure he can do just as good or better if he had put in more time

  • @franklinlevy I reckon this guy is way better than Nico Di Mattia. I have Mathias' Webpage on my favorites he;s so good.

  • @franklinlevy lol.. Nico doesn't draw in 20 minutes or less, though. ;)

  • This is amazing. I don't have this kind of patience. Kudos to you!

  • muuusic, muuuusic muuusic =D Comon everybody !!!! XDhehe excelen painting just lovelyyyyyyyyy , unique BRAVOOOO

  • Thanks man for sharing this, its fucking great.

Ps:Have you guys complaining about music heard of winamp or something?

  • Man you do great job, but with out music....I wanna music

  • Great painting but needs some music.

  • Nice

  • Amazing!

  • Good!!!! just add some music.. The painting is great it gives an industrial feeling.

  • c'est juste excellent !

    bravo :D

  • damn je l'avais pas vue celle la (honte sur moi) clapeu clapeu clapeu ^^

  • This guy is # 1 !!... very cool place to visit some day.

I love you and your work speedpaintings! You are a God ;P

  • love the "roof top" brush! makes drawing a cityscape soo much easier O_o (at least you make it seem that way :D )

thanks for sharing, wish we get to see the final piece at the end of the video.

  • Upsettingly good. This fills me with jealousy and rage.

    Post more please :)

  • Vraiment Bien Mathias, Tu as encore créé une ambiance générale qui nous emporte directement dans la scene. Belle exécution ! Continue hehe!

  • Thanks guys yeah it's my job, I'm a concept artist in the video game industry.

No reference used in my speed paintings.

  • @MathiasVerhasselt

Were you already this good at environment painting and such when you decided you wanted to be a concept artist? Or did you consciously set out to train in being one?

  • @MathiasVerhasselt how could i get into that sort of area. i mean concept art as that is the path i wish to follow or animator .

    any help would be greatful

  • Love the way you catch the light, was this based on any reference?

  • holy crap thats unreal. This your profession or a hobby because WOW your super good at it.
