My understanding is that the idea was for several key stations over a wide area to broadcast, intermittently and in turn, on either 640 or 1240. That would prevent Soviet bombers from using the signal as a homing beacon, as the location would change frequently.
If they used the Hdydrogen Bomb, Corn Field or not, many would still be screwed 640 and 1240 AM FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
