oh yes, pledge allegiance to a government that rules you by force of the gun and threat of imprisonment...yes thank god you have such a lying, stealing, mockery of freedom to pledge to...preserve that glorious union that has enslaved us all
Believe it or not I am from Vincennes, Indiana and my family owned the birthplace of Red Skelton and we met him several times. I was a small biy at the time and he was the same man in person you saw on TV. Warm, courteous, charming and funny. I remember watching his show and seeing his recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance as a boy. Most of my schoolmates saw it too, oddly enough most of us grew up to be Libertarians. LOL I don't know why I find that funny; but I do. Anyway Thanks compcarp.
@compcarp You're welcome. I live in Vincennes now too so if you live in or near Vincennes maybe we can meet up some time and discuss Mr. Skelton over coffee.
@hoosierarcher I'd LOVE to take you up on such a generous offer! My only knowledge of Mr. Skelton are memories of his TV Show, movies (Three Little Words is my favorite), Baby It's Cold Outside (Brilliant!), his Pledge of Allegiance AND my FAV - The Littlest Christmas Tree from A Child's First Christmas Album. It has since been re-released WITHOUT this story. Too religious or patriotic or politically incorrect, I suppose.
I would have loved to have met him. He seemed so genuine.
I still add "UNDER GOD" in my Pledge of Allegiance, which i was taught in school, you say it your way and ill say it my way,Under God is in my heart and soul,no one can take that away from me.
53 men pledged thier good name fortune and life signing the decleration of independence. some were captured and killed can any pollitician even think about that today let alone do it!?i rest my case as to whom should be voted out of office! as for me i say ill die in the streets be for giving up my liberty!and if you dont feel the same then get the hell out a here you dont belong here!freedom comes at a very hi cost but its better than being a slave in your own country!

"I Pledge Allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all."
Those are the original words of the pledge as written by a Socialist, Francis Bellamy, in 1892. Pity that those who gnash their teeth over "political correctness" and "revisionist history" overlook the fact that the Pledge itself was rewritten and reworded in the very name of political correctness and revisionism.
What's a pity is people who can't accept that the fact that a majority of American's did (and still do to a large extent) have a belief in God and wanted to reflect that in a pledge to our flag. Otherwise, it seemed like we were giving reverence to an inanimate object - while our founding fathers and many founding documents gave reverence to God.
Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear.
Amazing, isn't it, that for all of the "thumbs down" evaluations I was given, not one of the mindless sheep who so clicked could refute what I said about Francis Bellamy the Socialist, and his original Pledge of Allegiance as written in 1892.
That speaks volumes about conserva-tards: they are long on emotional rage, but short on intellect, and even shorter on facts to support their position.
I remember hearing this on the radio I believe it was Rush Limbaugh who played it this was back in the late 90s before the whole controversy started. Then in 2003 during my senior year myself and my friends would shout and emphasize the "Under God" part of the pledge.
The old saying be careful what you wish for is true. If we keep removing God from our lives the USA will turn into the USSR.
Stupid...What Red Skelton is saying is The pledge stands by itself without those two added words, That never belonged there....If they had they would have been in the original...And why would you like to live under anyone???? Sounds like a dictatorship to me!!!!!!!!!!
I think you are missing the point. He said wouldn't it be a shame if this was called a prayer. He meant something as simple and beautiful as the words "Under God" could be seen as a form of prayer would be horrible and unthinkable.
What is beautiful about the words under god....What about the americans that don´t have as much fantasy as you??? You could just as well say under zeus or under santa...all fiction...You people that so strongly believe that big brother is watching over you were just brainwashed as kids....No god has a place in public schools....Send your kids to private schools if you want them to be brainwashed
Please learn the history of the United States. Read the founding documents. The Constitution showed the founders of this nation recognized that the rights of the People came from God, NOT government! That government had rights given to it by We the People. Government was meant to have bounds. Government is stomping on our rights. This type of treatment is what our founders fought against. You have the right not to talk about God. I also have a right TO talk about God. Read the Constitution.
"Constitution showed the founders of this nation recognized that the rights of the People came from God, NOT government! "
Wrong. Read the first three words of the Preamble: "We the people." THAT is the source of the Constitution's authority, as found within the 4 corners of the document. Not any deity- the only mention of which is found in reference to the year of ratification: "the year of our Lord.." A ceremonial deist reference--not a Christian or Judeo-Christian one.
On the day that Congress finished its work on the First Amendment, it called on President George Washington to issue a Proclamation to the people of the United States to thank God for the freedoms we enjoy. A week and a day later the President's opening paragraph in his Proclamation said: "Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor . . ."
Also, just look at the Declaration of Independence. It;s spelled out pretty clear to me Who the Founding Fathers believed our rights come from. A man is a man not because government says he is one, but because God made him one.
Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of people that these liberties are the gift of God--- Thomas Jefferson
right, we, the people is the source of government. question. where does the "blessings" in "secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our prosperity" come from?
I agree with you, God is not mention in the constitution, but where does the blessings come from, if not from God?
"The pledge stands by itself without those two added words, That never belonged there."
Although findelkind was trashed with all the "thumbs down" remarks ad nauseam, he's correct: the words were not in the Pledge as originally written by Francis Bellemy- who was, BTW, a Socialist. The words inclusion (which are gramatically incorrect to begin with) have more to do with the politics of McCarthyism of the Fifities than any mythical religionism of the Founders.
Right or wrong, I'd much rather take the 'politics of McCarthyism of the Fifties" than the political correctness / socialistic / humanistic politics of today. America became a GREAT nation because of God's Blessing. Look around and see where we are now - now that God is being removed systematically from our public (and private) lives.
Your full of it...In the bible belt there are more unwed mothers, more abortion, more murder......The more dog(god) in your life the less brain you have....Statistical fact is the more educated you are the less chance to believe in fairy tales
"In the bible belt there are more unwed mothers, more abortion, more murder......"
Correct. And which state in the union has the LOWEST divorce rate per capita? A Bible Belt Jesusland Red State such as Louisiana(Jindal), Arkansas (Huckabee), or even Alaska (Palin)?
Why, no. It's "liberal, godless" Massachusetts (Teddy Kennedy, John Kerry). For all of their bombast, conserva-tard "Christian Patriot" types can't walk the walk when it comes right down to it.
