I'm not going to pretend that Chuvalo was of the caliber of Ali. History proved that he was not. What should be celebrated is that fact that Chuvalo had the heart and determination measure himself to Ali for 15 rounds. But if you watch the post-fight press conference (where Ali calls Chuvalo the toughest opponent of his career) you can see that Chuvalo isn't marked up. Excellent fight. The point about the Golden Era which lasted to about 1980 was that there were a host of fighters who were good enough to fight at this intensity for 15 rounds. Chuvalo would be undisputed no. 1 today, no doubt about it, and you could say the same for at least 25 fighters of this time. Remember too this was no ordinary champion he was up against, but arguably the best of the best AT his best.
