I'm not going to pretend that Chuvalo was of the caliber of Ali. History proved that he was not. What should be celebrated is that fact that Chuvalo had the heart and determination measure himself to Ali for 15 rounds. The fact some of you say he "got his ass kicked" and his face destroyed isn't what I take from this fight. I see a man who took every punch in Ali's arsenal to the face (many times) and never stopped coming at him. It's a shame noone respects determination anymore.
Chickenshit big mouth Muhammed Ali was so afraid of George Foreman he kept trying to delay fighting against him by having the fight match cancelled for a later date in 1974.
George Foreman in his Prime the Greatest Heavyweight Boxer Ever. And I'm a Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano Fan. George Foreman said George Chuvalo had the hardest solid iron head of any boxer he ever faced.
FUUUUUCK chuvalo was never knocked down wich pretty much means that wat seperates him from other fighters is his toughness, u cant break the guy hes not human PERIOD even ali said himself that it was the toughest fight in his carrer so whoever said that ali kicked his ass guess wat, ali himself proved my point by the words that came out of his mouth.
lets see whos tougher obviously chuvalo cuz he is still the same he always was. fucking ali is a god damn vegetable now. plus ali went to the hospital and fuckin chuvalo goes and gets drunk with his wife. chuvalo did not get his ass kicked sorry haters
Look at 5:25 and until about 5:40. Don Dunphy has an amazing imagination. George misses on three straight lefts and Dunphy eventually says "these are hard punches." For a man with his reputation, he is full of crap.
@atmoi666 I doubt it son. Did ali have to go on dialysis? no. Does ali have kidney failure? no. Chuvalos face look like a tractor trailer drove over it. I doubt it son, I doubt it. There was something I wanted to ask you. Were you and chuvalo lovers? sounds like you like like him if you know what I mean. No matter how many times chuvalo gets his ass kicked you still cheerleading in his corner. hehehehahahahaha.........................
@veeseee128 Hahahahah I don't know what treatments Ali received when he was in the hospital for bleeding kidneys from all the body shots he took from Chuvalo. But if you watch the post-fight press conference (where Ali calls Chuvalo the toughest opponent of his career) you can see that Chuvalo isn't marked up. His eyes were much more swollen after fighting Quarry and Frazier. And if Chuvalo went out dancing and Ali went to the hospital... Sorry, Chuvalo NEVER got his ass kicked by Ali. Moron
@atmoi666 Ass kicked is a relative term. The truth is that if fights went 30 rounds Chuvalo would be an all-time great. He didn't get his ass kicked in the way Sonny Liston kicked Floyd Patterson's ass. But, in sports terminology, when you lose like 14 rounds to 1 you got your ass kicked. The 49ers kicked the Chargers ass in a super bowl, and I don't remember anyone being hospitalized. If kicking ass means winning by a lot, then ali kicked Chuvalo's ass. If it means gruesomely hurting, then no
You look at muhammad alis face and look at chuvalos face after the fight and you tell me who won. Its obvious ali won, he looked prettier after the fight. chuvalos eyes were swollen shut not to mention cuts above his eyes. He took a good thorough ass whuppin from Ali.
@veeseee128 Actually, this was the fight that made everyone realize how tough Ali was because, up to this point, he had never faced so much punishment in his career. Chuvalo's face was swollen, granted, but it was a 15 round fight with Ali at his prime. Ali definitely didn't "whoop his ass" though. Not even Ali would say that.
@atmoi666 I dont agrue with fools who cant admit the truth and thats what you are a FOOL. Chuvalo never was a world champ. He lost over 20 fights in his pro career, he was a bum.

chuvalo needed a surgery after that fight, he was inactive for 13 months
while ali only was in the hospital for a quick check after the fight, he didnt stay there over night like u claimed, and fought cooper not even 2months later..
@t3di2 I think we can agree to disagree. But he didn't get his ass kicked. If neither fighter was staggered in 27 rounds, how can one of them be said to have "got his ass kicked"? Hopefully Ali's kidney's healed well. I'm sure if he could talk now, he'd let you know how wrong you are about everything you say. @t3di2 You idiot. Chuvalo never quit. Liston quit in his corner during the first fight and then took a dive in the second fight. Chuvalo kept moving forward and Ali ran from him for 27 rounds. Chuvalo was never knocked down AND send Ali to the hospital. Yet you say he's not on the same level? Think again you fucking idiot.
@t3di2 Yeah and he got knocked down by Cooper too, didn't he? The same cooper who cowardly held on to the British Commonwealth Title and was scared to give Chuvalo a crack at it. Cooper would never step in the ring with Chuvalo.

After watching this fight several times....Marciano would have beaten either one, Like Marciano, Chuvalo could take a hell of a punch, but the rocks power and stamina would be too much for them! Great fight between great fighters...thanks for the upload! (:D)....AMN!!
@CapnSchep Hahahahaha. Marciano couldn't even beat an old washed up lightheavyweight like Archie Moore. He was a lightheavyweight. My uncle Rocky Jones beat the crap out of Rocky Marciano three times in Exhibition fights. He wouldn't give him a title shot so he fought Roland LaStarza who my Uncle Rocky knocked out. La Starza was a bum and nearly beat Marciano. Marciano retired because he couldn't beat anybody. He's a little white man so I'll just let you dream.
Excellent fight. The point about the Golden Era which lasted to about 1980 was that there were a host of fighters who were good enough to fight at this intensity for 15 rounds. Chuvalo would be undisputed no. 1 today, no doubt about it, and you could say the same for at least 25 fighters of this time. Remember too this was no ordinary champion he was up against, but arguably the best of the best AT his best.
@THOMASBANTON THat's a good point,Tyson has more power/speed than the hard hitting type of boxers seen in this era.
But,Tyson is accustomed to quick fights;his endurance would wear out as Chuvalo takes his hits like none before.Anyone who went 15 rounds with Ali in 1966 without getting knocked down, and can still go dancing on the same night isn't going down fast, even from the likes of Tyson.
@shamwowftl Watch Chuvalo vs. Frazier then. Frazier broke Chuvalo's cheekbone and nearly knocked his eye out. The video is here on youtube. Watch it. It's gruesome.
why didn't george chuvalo fight for the championship after they stole the title away from ali in march of 1967?? and why didn't frazier fight chuvalo?
Ali won both Chuvalo fights by huge margins. This "nut" case atmoi666 must either be related to Chuvalo, or a blind Canadian. That is the only explanation for his LOL comments. Chuvalo by the way also went to the hosp to have his stiches put in. And if going to the hospital makes the winner of a fight the loser then i guess he believes Ali beat Frazier in the first fight since Frazier went to the hospital for 3 weeks. There's always a guy who makes stupid comments everywhere just to be noticed.
That is really funny and also wrong. After the fight, Chuvalo went dancing with his wife. Ali went for medical treatment and was urinating blood. Those are the facts and they are not disputed by those who were there.
I am not sure what your point is. Ali won the fight. No one has argued otherwise. He also had his insides re-arranged and went to the hospital because of it. That is also true.
Chuvalo was a tough guy, but most of his damage to Ali that night were blows "south of the border". In fact Ali went on Wide World Of Sports the week after the fight to show his dented protective cup. Otherwise Chuvalo missed about 90pct of the punches he threw. Chuvalo's face on the other hand as Reg Gutteridge the famed British announcer said, looked like a bucket full of golf balls bec of the swellings.
Chuvalo wasn't throwing low blows. Chuvalo is a body puncher (especially in this fight compared to their second match which Chuvalo should have won). If you look closely, you can see how high up Ali has his protective cup. It's way too high
common! the low blows were constant. Not intentionally dirty like Tyson later, but should have been warned. The rematch in 72 was without much low blow incidents so i wasn't talking about that one. But how you say he (Chuvalo) should have won that one is beyond me. I have that fight on dvd in great condition. Ali won 10 of 12 rounds. And in the 6th came the closest except for Foreman to flooring Chuvalo. Even Chuvalo never complained about the clear cut verdict in Ali's favor.
You clearly don't know the difference between facts and rumors. The FACTS are that Ali won by unamimus decision. All those storys of what happend after the fight, only George and Ali know how they realy felt, and if you look at the fight you can see that George a serieus beating so I don't think he felt so good the next day.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Just because a decision is made doesn't mean that it is made correctly. Chuvalo won the 2nd fight. Also, Chuvalo never took a serious beating from Ali in either fight. Loser goes to the hospital. End of story.
Is it only that you hate Ali or is it it a racist thing? You don't make sence, Chuvalo's face clearly showed the effect of Ali's blows, Ali clearly outpointed him, there was never any dispute about the outcome of the fight.
atmo666...what's the problem with u boy...ur being too damn stupid with ur senseless comments...be fair...chuvalo was a great fighter..but he lost every fucking round he fought with Ali......and I pretty much agree with iamtman...
yes he went hospital because he had a bleeding kidney BUT Chuvalo even said that ALI kept on puttin his left arm around Chuvalo and dearing him to hit ALI in the body. If you dont believe me then go and look at FACING ALI trailer. Chuvalo says him self on the camera.
Tyson's psychological shortcomings in the face of determined opposition are well documented. This aggressive, determined Ali would have dismantled Tyson or sent Tyson into one of his fouling meltdowns. Chuvalo, in contrast, did not know the word quit. He is a true representative of the old era wherein one accepted adversity and pain as a part of the price of being a fighter.
Less determined and courageous as well. A bully and a frontrunner, very much like Sonny Liston. He had trouble with speedy fighters. And Nobody was as tough and durable as George Chuvalo. No doubt, it would be an interesting fight as long as you are talking about the Tyson we saw very briefly who was trained by Kevin Rooney. The post Rooney Tyson wouldn't have had a chance.
this was not the mismatch of ali's previous fight against Floyd Patterson where ali really toyed with him. Chuvalu was a very tough fighter and ali knew it. He let chuvalo give him those body blows so chuvalo would get worn out, like Foreman later on, but chuvalo never really tired out and just kept coming and coming. Ali said Chuvalu was one of his toughest opponents. Chuvalu was a tough fighter, but not very successful. he has fought all the greats and in 90 fights, nobody ever knocked him out
Chuvalo told Ali that Ali would win the fight, but Chuvalo told him that he would be dancing with his wife after and Ali would not be. Thats what happened too. Chuvalo might not of had the talent but what a tough guy, he can still throw bombs too, he came into our gym for a few days, showed us some stuff and hit the bags a bit.
how can ali have "carried the fight all 15 rounds" and then end up in the hospital with bleeding kidneys?? i don't think you've seen the entire fight. plus, watch the 2nd fight... i think he won that one.
well yeah youre right.he ended with bleeding kidneys.but that happened a lot of times.with joe in 1971,i think even with ken norton he ended with this problem. etc.its true ali didnt care about the abdomen blows his oponents gave him.and this was his due..damaged kidneys.ill look at the fight.didnt see for long time.
not deserved at all! george was so much better!

Chuvalo's face on the other hand as Reg Gutteridge the famed British announcer said, looked like a bucket full of golf balls bec of the swellings.
iamtman1 2 years ago
Chuvalo wasn't throwing low blows. Chuvalo is a body puncher (especially in this fight compared to their second match which Chuvalo should have won). If you look closely, you can see how high up Ali has his protective cup. It's way too high
atmoi666 2 years ago
common! the low blows were constant. Even Chuvalo never complained about the clear cut verdict in Ali's favor.
iamtman1 2 years ago
Yes he has. There's a video on here where Chuvalo says, "I won the 2nd Ali fight".
atmoi666 2 years ago
bullshit. chuvalo won this fight.
atmoi666 2 years ago
Even Chuvalo would laugh at your comment. Ali won in a shutout.
iamtman1 2 years ago
Just like Ricky Hatton was winning against Floyd Mayweather Jr, before he was KO'd, right?
You sound like moron, moron.
Bet you're unemployed, and you're certainly under-educated.

You clearly don't know the difference between facts and rumors. The FACTS are that Ali won by unamimus decision. All those storys of what happend after the fight, only George and Ali know how they realy felt, and if you look at the fight you can see that George a serieus beating so I don't think he felt so good the next day.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Just because a decision is made doesn't mean that it is made correctly. Chuvalo won the 2nd fight. Also, Chuvalo never took a serious beating from Ali in either fight. Loser goes to the hospital. End of story.
atmoi666 2 years ago
Is it only that you hate Ali or is it it a racist thing? You don't make sence, Chuvalo's face clearly showed the effect of Ali's blows, Ali clearly outpointed him, there was never any dispute about the outcome of the fight.
bcibibcibcpCB 2 years ago 3
Never a serious beating? Look at his face compared to Ali you shit head.

atmo666...what's the problem with u boy...ur being too damn stupid with ur senseless comments...be fair...chuvalo was a great fighter..but he lost every fucking round he fought with Ali......and I pretty much agree with iamtman...
Come to your senses....
linart25 2 years ago
yes he went hospital because he had a bleeding kidney BUT Chuvalo even said that ALI kept on puttin his left arm around Chuvalo and dearing him to hit ALI in the body. If you dont believe me then go and look at FACING ALI trailer. Chuvalo says him self on the camera.
And the decision was made correctly by far :)

you know i rank chuvalo as the best fighter ali faced becasue he went 15 rounds with the greatest at his greatest!
later in his career ali usually went 15 rounds but this was ali in his prime and chuvalo is the few that went the distance

Tyson's psychological shortcomings in the face of determined opposition are well documented. This aggressive, determined Ali would have dismantled Tyson or sent Tyson into one of his fouling meltdowns. Chuvalo, in contrast, did not know the word quit. He is a true representative of the old era wherein one accepted adversity and pain as a part of the price of being a fighter.

amen to that
endlessruin2009 2 years ago
Could you imagine if Tyson was in there?
More skillfull , and faster, and powerfull than Chuvalo.
TRUTHhitman 3 years ago
Less determined and courageous as well. A bully and a frontrunner, very much like Sonny Liston. He had trouble with speedy fighters. And Nobody was as tough and durable as George Chuvalo. No doubt, it would be an interesting fight as long as you are talking about the Tyson we saw very briefly who was trained by Kevin Rooney. The post Rooney Tyson wouldn't have had a chance.

yeah, and no heart.........Chuvalo didnt know the word quit........

this was not the mismatch of ali's previous fight against Floyd Patterson where ali really toyed with him.

Keep up the good work.

Thank you for posting Muhammad Ali videos! Can you post more interviews with Muhammad Ali from the 1960s and 1970s. Thank You again!
Galanttttt 3 years ago
yeah commentator is a total idiot.ali has carried the fight all 15 rounds.
RomanSedlak 3 years ago
how can ali have "carried the fight all 15 rounds" and then end up in the hospital with bleeding kidneys?? i don't think you've seen the entire fight. plus, watch the 2nd fight... i think he won that one.
atmoi666 3 years ago
well yeah youre right.he ended with bleeding kidneys.but that happened a lot of times.with joe in 1971,i think even with ken norton he ended with this problem. etc.its true ali didnt care about the abdomen blows his oponents gave him.and this was his due..damaged kidneys.ill look at the fight.didnt see for long time.
RomanSedlak 3 years ago
man i just watched the fight and must say yes ali carried the fight...chuvalo was tough bud on points it was clear ali fight.
