Democracy? Quite simple really. Now do try to pay attention down the back.

I go to work. I pay my taxes.

The Govt uses it to "run" the country.

We the taxpayers, vote the Govt into power.

Sometimes the vote is close.

We do a recount, and usually the guy with the most votes gets the job(not always seeFlorida)

Then,and this is the important part, we the taxpayers go back to work.

Good call my friend. We also have a system of checks and balances. Combined with a free press that loves to expose corruption and we do in fact have the greatest system the world has ever known.. Lets hope we can catch the rest of the violent world up to speed.

I wonder, by killing the people, who the people in power expect to govern? And by letting people being killed, who the opposition expect to vote for them next time? In any case, my point is that human lives are more important than power and/or protecting properties. Let Mr. Kibaki and Raila know this! Fellow Kenyans, it is time to realize to which extent our leaders love us!

I think before anyone comments why so and so is living where he/she needs to go back to the time after independence and also pre-colonial settlement of the different groups i.e bantus,nilotes and cushits.All Kenyans are free to live anywhere in the country and vote whoever they want whether host or not. Maybe that is democracy or is it?

I have often thought that Kenya is a promising country and home to one of the stable democracies in Africa after it regained its independence. The event came as a surprise I guess.  I hope peace in Kenya will be restored.

Whether Kikuyu, Luo, or Kalenjin; if only they can see each other as fellow kenyans and see past ethnic/tribal lines. I think both parties, Kibaki and Odinga should focus more on establishing peace first before determining who should be president or not.
