  • my favorite song write of all time. that includes burt and carole.

  • Her voice and the images Laura conjured up for me still shimmer ... just as her songs did in 1968 when I first discovered real music. There are a few vocalist-writers that have come close and delighted me. But no-one I can find quite captures Laura's unmistakable soft-as-a-baby's-breath to thunderclap sincerity. And the Lady had a set of pipes ... !!!

  • Laura saved my life and feeds my spirit. No drama there, just the truth. that's all i really need from my art, folks!!

  • It's a CRYING SHAME no one writes songs in this bouyantly exuberant, soulful, fancy free manner anymore. A true artist, Nyro kept herself away from true fame and exposure on purpose. So many people I run into, when rtlling off her hits, respond with "Wow, they all came from HER? Why have I never heard of her?"

  • AMEN Aquamoon22!

  • Pass Go and Go to Heaven!!!

  • She told it & sang it like it was! No "B.S." from this girl.

  • Strange, I hear Carole King meets Amy Winehouse. So much talent and musical instinct! Gone too soon.

  • My highest possible comment: more pure songwriter/singer talent than Joni Mitchell.

  • @KillAllCellPhones ABSOLUTELY -- I rate ONLY Carole King (who was more prolific) as a greater American female songwriter -- and Laura had more soul than either Joni or Carole -- I just turned on young Austin jazz-soul singer Tameca Jones to Laura's music -- SHE HAD NEVER HEARD OF HER!!??? WTF IS WRONG WITH OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM ANYWAY?????

  • I am in danger of wearing out You Tube listening to Laura Nyro. This is SUCH a beautiful and FUN song. I ordered the CD (and 2 others) over the weekend and hope to God it comes before tomorrow afternoon when I leave on many hours of driving. God bless, Laura.

  • @hbailen, I second that emotion. Much love, respect, and gratitude to Laura Nyro on her birthday, and every day!

  • Happy Birthday Laura. We miss you!

  • Ah, Laura and her piano, there's just nothing better i.m.h.o!

  • Not bad at all! I like it. I can't believe I never heard of her. Reminds me a bit of Carly Simon. Gotta go find some more...

  • Horrid voice. Never should have been recorded by her. An insult to magnetic tape.

  • @xjfop You're joking, right?

  • @xjfop Too bad she WROTE it, so she would've HAD to record it at some point in time.

  • @xjfop I stretch my tolerance to say you're entitled your opinion. Now that I've said that, MY opinion is that your opinion sucks. I think she is the most wonderful singer I've ever heard. She's my baby and them's fightin' words to me!

  • @xjfop Why would you make this comment? That's cold. Just when I thought a human could not get any lower, picking on the lovely Laura Nyro. Sad. Go F**K yourself and crawl back in your underground hole. Loser.

  • Excellent lyrics and nicely sung and what a voice! lOVE IT!

  • The New York Tendaberry album was a religious experience for me. My whole life of the period is in that album; Laura's vocals on it are the most expressive I have ever heard by any singer, listen to her Tom Cat goodbye. Incredible, Awesome!

  • @docambra All he probably cared about was football!

  • Laura Nyro gives the best advice with her beautiful lyrics. And now I really need time and love to cure my broken heart.

  • I love the way she slows the piano just a little at the beginning of each verse. Genius from beyond, yet thankfully she left us music unlike I've ever heard before or after. Precious words and notes. Thank you Laura, life would be too cold without your voice.

  • This woman was a true artistic genius. So glad I can still access her. My high school friends and I were crazy for her creative music years ago. She still freaking awesome!!

  • The sweetest songbird in the meadow - unequalled and untouched by time!!!!

Nothing cures like time and Laura!!!

  • Lovely Laura, Angel from Heaven!

  • I had vaguely remembered this song -- a little of the melody and even less of the lyrics ( "la, la, la... everybody.. la, la, la") -- but I hadn't been able to track it down, no matter how many 5th Dimension titles I sampled. The I finally and unwittingly stumbled onto it here. 35+ years later I still find the song enjoyable.

  • @VolTupungato It might have been "Emily" or "La La Means I Love You"

  • I have fallen in love with two singers, during my lifetime. They are Laura Nyro and Nanci Griffith. I never met Laura, and it is highly doubtful that I shall ever meet Nanci. No matter though. Their spirits have brushed up against mine; somewhere out in the ether. I would like to think so, at least.

  • @dramusic That's exactly how I feel about Laura Nyro. Never met her, in love with her. Go figure?

  • I loved her and she died much too young. She is part of our youth, at least mine. I hope the she is never a forgotten or overlooked song writer. Any uploaded Lara Nero is much appreciated.

  • My favorite Laura Nyro song. All about hope. All about love. Boy do I miss her! Oh, Spring is upcoming.

  • She always looked like she was depressed

  • @oxlotol She looked a lot happier after her hiatus in the 70s. She looked like she found some peace.

  • Nyro maybe one of the 10 greatest singer/songwriters of the 20th century. An amazing talent....a giant.

  • I love this song!

  • I always thought all of the other ladies were way behind her. Loved the way she modulated her beautiful voice and the bluesy, jazzy sound was cool too

  • I'm so glad to find others who recognize this woman's tremendous talent. I miss her too. She was the soundtrack to a very important few years in my life.

  • I wouldn't advise anyone to buy New York Terndaberry on the bais of this song, as it is easily the best song on there and there is quite a lot of dreary material on the LP. No doubt others will disagree but I prefer the pop Laura to the less tuneful one.

  • @CraigG1960 With all due respect, everybody, get New York Tendaberry; there is a ton of brilliant pop on there, and it's always been my fave LN release. A work of sheer genius. Having said that, we're all entitled to our opinions, so I'm not trying to be contentious here.

  • @vampyros1 Myself, I think I like most of her catalog. There's stuff I like more than others but I like probably 80% or more of her catalog. Including Smile and Nested. So picking out one album would be tough. I could go for the Stoned Soul Picnic" greatest hits album but it doesn't include songs like "Luckie" which is one of my faves.

  • Nothing cures like Time and Love!

  • One of the most underrated people of her generation.. This brings back so many teenaged memories

  • @963821 I don't think of Laura as being underrated. Maybe she didn't personally get a lot of "pop" radio play, but her songs certainly did. Look how many artists recorded her stuff. Streisand, The Fifth Dimension, Three Dog Night and others. I think she probably did pretty well off the royalties. It's a shame that she died so young. I'm sure she had a lot of songs left to write.

  • @beentheredonethatb4 unfortunately David Geffen received a lot of those royalties.

  • @iodine125 There's a song about that.

  • @docambra She had a son, Gil. He is an independent rapper out of Harlem I believe. He has been trying to do a Nyro tribute album for years now but hasn't had any luck when it comes to legal clearences.

  • Nobody had the entire package like Laura Nyro. She was the queen of the beat changer in most of her songs. It's just not fair she died so young at 49.

  • @is1531 When I heard her sing, so long ago now ( 1970 ?? ) I thought what is this... a wild woman gone wild.

Dynamic is what. To-day, I can't help but tear up when I hear songs like this. OMG - maybe genius isn't too strong a label.... songbird ? memorable ? Oh hell, fantastic singer

  • This version is good, but I prefer Barbra's one

  • @Baumeposh --this is not a "version" its the original.

  • Sorry, but the word "version" in spanish has many meanings. Perhaps I used one of the spanish meanings.

  • Thanks for the words to this song. Labelle sings a wonderful version of this song and I'm always wailing along with them, not knowing a single word. . .until now. Many thanks ~ibou

  • Beutiful song!!!!! - By both; Laura Nyro, and The 5th Dimension!!!!......A song of love and kindness - NOT hate, and violence!!!! (Like much of today's music!!!)

  • This, along with Save the Country, are my favorite Laura songs...thanks!

  • Laura Nyro is a Classic composer.Noble sensitive, with all the passion of her music I cant help but be in love with art form. She Is total heart and soul. a good angel was put here on this earth to really sing that is Laura Nyro.May the creator rest her loving soul. Her classic music will last for all time. Manteacosaa1
