  • thank you, elliot, for special moments you brought into my life while i listened to your fingers run on the guitar and your voice flow into my head. i listen to this one in loop, there is something about it. i wish you could have told more!

  • Elliott, I'm never gonna know you now but I'm gonna love you anyhow.

  • *Know

  • lol, its pretty lame, that makes you sound so ignorant that you cant even find a problem with the song besides its "lame"

  • I don't like this. I don't why, It's pretty lame.

  • @lukerr87 In Belgium we use to say "tout les gouts sont dans la nature" wich you can translate by "all the tastes are in the nature". :)

  • @lukerr87 if you meant your reason of not liking this, i agree

  • He wrote this song about his mum.

  • He wrote this song about his mum.

  • ...im goona love u anyhow-\3

  • So much talent...every time I hear or see him now, joy and melancholy flood my emotions.

  • This happened last month. I'm going to love him anyhow and I'm tired . . . This and Waltz #1.

  • Comment removed

  • I can never watch him do this one without crying.

  • I'm literally crying while watching this

  • dammit. i was trying to be productive...

  • love you elliott. wish you were here

  • So happy I got to see him perform live before he passed away. A wonderful singer/songwriter. He is truly missed.

  • @distantbabble you are so lucky! I didn't hear his music until it was too late

  • just bought the original 7"

  • @santaclara84 thats what she said

  • @LauraBode731 lol... well played.

  • Look. Elliott Smith can get into your head in a way that is maybe not as healthy as you might think. Great Art has a power to it. The Catholic Church knew this very well and hired the best to promote their beliefs. But it's all just Art. If anyone gets the chance read or listen to the way John Lennon spoke of many of his songs. He knew it was something of a Grand Illusion. The songs are beautiful, graceful, but as Elliott said himself, "They're just songs." Boyce Livingston Webb

  • @DjangosBurntFingers he has such great lyrics that a they can't be 'just songs' even if he says it :P

  • pretty sure i gotta be done with elliot for awhile

  • @EricKolvek Explain.....you came to the conclusion thisis mainly for insecure 13 year old girls ?

  • @PAULLONDEN No I didnt. I tend to listen to music I like a lot. I just meant Im excited for the next artist i really respect. I didnt find Elliot until a few years ago but he is real great.

  • @2hamboigahs love em

  • @2hamboigahs i own everthing he ever made why are you asking?

  • @2hamboigahs right here

  • @2hamboigahs Yeah......what of it ?

  • Absolutely briljant

  • lalalala :)

  • Fed up of the suicide debate to be honest.

  • @theurbancynic yes.

  • @theurbancynic What I'm sick of is people automatically assuming that he killed himself because he's struggled with depression.

Depression is apart of everyone's life.

  • @PwnZoneification but most people dont jump of cliffs and get impaled by trees

  • @ngpdreamteam2k4 You're right, nobody has ever tried to kill themselves before and went on to be happy and healthy later in life.

    Not a one.

  • Comment removed

  • @ngpdreamteam2k4 I don't know why you were spam flagged.

But yeah, the general evidence was inconclusive the "Note" sounded really stupid. He called his friend down to work on another album.

If he were really going do it, I don't think he'd purposefully inconvenience others over it.

But yeah, I'm not surprised. I just don't like it.

If people were a bit smarter they might not think so.

  • This is the one I would send to the Prince Charming who has another princess... if I thought he gave a f*k now. Maybe I should, just for my sense of closure.

  • @amerikanprincess maybe you should do the grown up thing and realize everything your feeling has a biological purpose and it will go away as soon as you find someone else... stop dwelling

  • This song is best left to breathe for a month before listening again....then it feels like the first time you ever heard it again. Shivers.

  • Okey, I listened to the studio version, and it was really nice, and I searched for the song in this and... frankly... I'm in the verge of crying... he's singing it from his own self, this is a beautiful song...

  • The world misses you Elliot. I know I do.

  • Hi I'm a 23 year old man who wants to become a pokemaster. I gottta catch 'em all, ya know. Vote this up so prof. oak will notice it and hopefully I can become a pokemaster.

  • elliott smith isthe only "emo" artist that i do not consider an insincere pussy. he was honest with himself and the world about his depression, about being suicidal. his music was a vehicle for an honest interpretation of his world-view... which happened to be negative. the man jumped off a cliff and finally succeeded when he stabbed himself in the chest....

  • @corinnabower I really am kind of tired of people just assuming he killed himself when it wasn't conclusive.

Killing yourself after you got your life back on track doesn't make sense, the method doesn't make sense, the suicide note doesn't make sense.

Him calling his friend down to work on an album with him, doesn't make sense.

  • @PwnZoneification i'm 8 months clean, and it's been the most volitile, emotional, and confusing period of my life. and for elliott, who had made multiple suicide attempts, a person who struggled with depression and mental illness his entire life, how DOESN'T it make sense? just because he didn't plan it far enough in advance to call off plans doesn't mean anything... he was impulsive, like the time he jumped off the cliff in SC. not to mention that he was having a terrible fight @ the time w/ gf

  • @corinnabower It's conjecture on both sides, I don't pretend to know what took place. Saying that he killed himself in statement fashion, displaying it as factual is what I don't like.

Like I said, the method was odd as was the apparent note. If we're drawing conclusions of suicide based on his addiction or fighting or who he was generally, then the note for one doesn't fit.

I'm just saying, no one knows what happened for sure.

  • @corinnabower wait what? Emo? check your facts better. Elliott was depressive and his songs and tear jerkers, but he's not emo. He wasn't.

  • stabbed himself twice in the heart........commited. no gesture, no playin. he wanted to go...fair play. we lose but i rekon he won.....

  • @adamspun Even though it wasn't a definite suicide but whatever

  • The 32 useless shits that disliked this video should get their heads examined ... How in the world didnt I know about this song years ago ?? I feel cheated somehow :(

  • Does anyone know which show / concert this is from ? I

  • @MilayaSterv04ka Type in Elliott Smith Swedish TV Interview and you'll get more of the show. It's from 1998.

  • Got the chills.

  • hes an angel

  • romeopalote , it's a really old Yamaha..

  • @lvacqua it's okay, it's allright nothings wrong.

  • @lvacqua Couldn't put it better...

  • Oh holy fuck I miss this man. 9 years ago today. You are loved more than ever kid, RIP <3.

  • @OhLookItsAlexandra Pretty sure it's 8 years dude

  • @blllllllllleugh Oh god damn it, that was one major typo. **8 years, indeed. Gah. I now feel like a moron. Silly iPhone keyboard.

  • @OhLookItsAlexandra You're not a moron. It feels like 9 years.

  • "I'm never gonna know you now, but I'm gonna love you anyhow." That's exactly how I feel about you, Elliot Smith.

  • I first discovered Elliot Smith 13 years ago, have a few of his CDs, only just found out he died in 2003. Very belated R.I.P. so sorry to hear this, will treasure what you did record in your life that was all too short.

  • ugh Elliot i miss you so bad

  • In the way of your lyrics -Elliott Smith, I'm never gonna know you now but I'm gonna love you anyhow. Because although your dead your not gone or forgotten , To me you feel very much alive.

    R.I.P you beautiful angel <3

  • A poet, an angel, you see how much love you get out? Thank you, I embrace you with all the warmth I could. Every time I see these videos I wish I could reach with a gentle caress. Now you are completely happy, I know. There is a reason for everything.

  • This has to be one of my favourite Smith tunes ever, great acoustic performance.

  • I listened to Elliott's discography over and over the past few days and his music was so good my iPod actually broke. that's the power this mans music has.

  • yikes i got a pen now

  • great job !

  • he kind of reminds me of waiting to get my ass kicked

  • elliott smith is just sheer perfection...

  • As close to perfection as I have seen in music. Like all the genius of the Beatles rolled up into a one-man-show for this song.

    Brilliant.

  • His songs shouldn't end. They should go on forever.

  • god damnit come back, love elliott smith forever

  • oh Elliott. love...

  • "XO, Mom...It's okay, it's alright, nothing's wrong. Tell Mr man with impossible plans to just leave me alone..."

  • This man was a genius Idc what anyone else says. R.I.P Elliott

  • He sounds like a really depressed beatle in this song.

  • @loyer258 John suffered from terrible depression aswell

  • His face after he sings "XO, mom." is pitiful,</3

  • @stainedglasseyes1 I'M GOING TO HATE SOMEBODY BECAUSE OF A FACIAL EXPRESSION

  • @VincentPrice111 What? Who?

  • @stainedglasseyes1 ME, I AM BECAUSE A FACIAL EXPRESSION IS IMPORTANT

  • @VincentPrice111 Not sure I'm catching your drift..

  • Such emotion in all of his music, gotta agree with 1980future here, if one could express though music this guy, Elliott Smith, he does it

  • I miss you

  • is there any "a passing feeling" music video like this?? i mean, "live"

  • I've been listening to nothing but elliott smith... The soundtrack to my depression.

  • @1980futureclone Amen

  • When i was using a lot of heroin all I listened to was Elliott Smith

  • Excelent musician!!! RIP and God bless him

  • is he playing a classical here? we miss you elliott!!

  • Words can't describe how much admiration I have for him.

What he has created will live forever.

His music is incredible, and his voice so peaceful and soft.

I love Elliott Smith and his music so much.

Forever in our hearts he will remain.

    <3

  • I'm never gonna know you now, but I'm gonna love you anyhow. R.I.P. buddy

  • what show is this on?

  • I can't even fathom how beautiful he is. You will never die in my heart Elliott.

  • Some of the saddest most beautiful music ever written. Thanks, Elliott. Wherever you are.

  • Muito boa sua musica, Doug of Brazil.

  • Genius

  • happy birthday one-winged angel <3

  • Learning this song as we speak, And the music is pure beauty.

  • i forgot your birthday elliott, im sorry, thanks for everything xoxo

  • Sounds like George Harrison. Elliott Smith was truly great.

  • @PleaseDontBeLong

That's what I said to my boyfriend when I first heard Elliott play a Beatles-era George Harrison song.

  • Happy birthday :D

  • Happy Birthday. Thank you so much for your music.

    XO

  • Happy Birthday Elliott, we miss you so much <3

  • Happy Birthday

  • yes

  • even after all of these years, all of the things that I have dealt with, his tunes speak such justice, some things never change. I will forever miss you, sir. A true unrecognized hero/genius of our time.

  • R.I.P Elliot Smith, you were and still are a true musician and thanks for sharing your gift to the world

  • See his eyes when he sings "It's alright, Mom." So much pain. What a loss.

  • I’ve heard people compare Elliott Smith to bright eyes, i don’t see it...elliott is much better and ought not be compared in my opinion.. they also sound much different

while it is sad that he passed i will be forever thankful for the music he left behind :)

    R.I.P

  • @alexis42able Yes! I totally believe you, Elliott smith is way better

  • why is is that the greatest musicians always have to die so young?

    R.I.P. Elliott

  • @woodstock8905 Because in order to be so great they need to go through serious and frequent hardships as Elliott Smith and so many others like him have done, and it eventually puts them down for good.

  • xoxOx0!

  • I think most of the views are from me :)

  • @Arsenik17

    i respectfully disagree ; )

  • Thank You...

  • Elliott Smith, I'd die to hear you in person :(

  • @LandinBenkowski You would have to die because he's dead.

  • I'm so glad that my memory's remote cause I'm doing just fine, hour to hour, note to note.

  • Just beautiful.

  • People dislike it because he's not an 'attractive' woman, and he doesn't sing about sex or hoes, he sings about the things in life that are true and these things are deemed 'morbid' and 'depressing' to unintelligent folk.

Some people will never like Elliott Smith, but I hope they appreciate his song writing skills.

  • @negativecreepx Lol, I can honestly say I have never heard or heard of anyone say they dislike Elliott Smith because he doesn't sing about "sex or hoes". I am a massive Elliott Smith fan but you can't make such sweeping generalisations. XO

  • @AKacunaBecomes It was obvious exaggeration, I know they don't really. Everyone I know like songs with bad lyrics and stuff so I can generalise my local population.

  • Elliott, you were such an amazing talent. An incredibly underrated guitar (I think most guitar players will agree, his acoustic playing is amazing.) And his lyrics are so poignant and true to the heart. It is such a shame we had to lose you, but a blessing that your music remains and always will. You have helped countless people (including me) through some of the toughest times in their lives. I guess its too bad nobody could help you. Rest in peace brother.

  • no one could ever reach the level of understanding he put in his music, nor could they touch his Lyricism :)

  • purest beauty

  • Such an amazing artist and such a sad song about his mom but it's my favorite <3 you can see the sadness in his expressions and hear it in his voice. That vulnerability is still so beautiful for this song. I can definitely relate to this song. R.I.P. love "I'm never gonna know you now, but I'm gonna love you anyhow" <3 XO

  • Wow. Bill from True Blood sure is a great singer/songwriter.

  • I like this more then the stuido version...its more raw i don't know something about it is just beautiful

  • @alexis42able Me too this just gave me chills..

  • apparently 30 people have no clue what a true musician is. Also Elliot, I will miss you for the rest of my life. Thank you for remaining one of my greatest inspirations. You're the reason I still love music and this song is a reminder of that.

  • this song made me cry for the first time in 5 years,.... holy fuck..

  • Pretty sure its an SJ model. I have one that looks exactly like that without the truss cover.

  • i'm never gonna know you now, but i'm gonna love you anyhow

  • @TMHLEGOLAS thanks!

  • i love this !!! what guitar is he using? acoustic or classic?

  • @meizlovely

Yamaha acoustic (steel string), not sure what particular model, but it's dreadnought size without a cutaway

  • @inheritancerecords why thank you! if I were to buy an acoustic steel string guitar, would you know if I should get either fender or Yamaha?

  • @meizlovely either/or... both are good. With Fender you're paying a bit more for the brand name though.

  • @inheritancerecords yeah? alrighty thanks!

  • The voice of an angel.

  • @Pr0fessorScience

Figuratively and literally. Rest in Peace Mr. Smith.

  • @Pr0fessorScience I agree. definitely the voice of an angel. i must listen to this every now and then
