Mostly this scene brilliantly spoofs when movies will put there characters in dangerous situations and then invent ridiculous contrived ways to save them. They simply took that and pushed it to its most ridiculous extreme imaginable. Which easily makes this one of the funniest scenes in motion picture history
@Jimboman300 As ridiculous as believing that a certain 'Prophet' travelled to heaven in a carriage pulled by a magical beast and met Jesus, Moses, Adam, Eve and God himself.
When I watched this film at the age of 5 (may i point out that quoting this film got me into alot of trouble at school) I never understood the aliens bit, by my god its funny
This just isn't funny. I suppose next you'll be laughing at the good name of my fwiend Biggus Dickus...? And his lovely wife... Incontinentia....Incontinentia Buttocks? Honestly, you're all so wery childish! Shame on you!
@Teleoceras I think they are the only ones who would have DARED! I mean, this scene is so absolutely random it's incredible. But it's great and one of my absolute favorite parts of any Python-related stuff.
I can already picture this as an idea fro a future episode of "Family Guy" when Peter fights the Giant Chicken!!!!!!! Imagine the Giant Chicken as Jesus and the Aliens look like a bunch of Peters!!!!!!!
@brianatleftyfilms go look him up on google with the words monty python then you find out why , he has wrote sketches for many of monty pythons , and even appeared in one of the flying circus episodes , and since he really good sci fi writer you can tell this is one of his ideas
@brianatleftyfilms because douglas was one of the brain stormers during preproduction sketch work and yes this scene has all the elements of douglas adams
@jmm1233 Well, if he was in pre, then it most likely was his brainchild. I wouldn't say that everything with all the elements of X author is from X author.
When I got the Bluray and saw this scene (and another, with nudity), I don't remember EVER seeing them in the movie, and I watched it like 10 times...
Carl Jung, said that UFOs were the angels of the 20th century. So Brian jumps from pillar and an "angel" catches him and brings him to the ground on fiery chariot.
It is so obvious why they have put this scene in the movie. The message is that everyone were so busy with thinking and wasting there time on the religious stuff happening in the world that the didn't even notise if there were any other things going on in the world; for an example if it even existed aliens or UFO's.
The most random thing I've ever seen. I was laughing my ass off for the whole time and 10 minutes after. Whoever the hell thought to put a space battle in the middle of this was a genius.
I think it was Terry Gilliam's idea. I remember hearing somewhere that they couldn't think of a good way to transition from Brian falling off the tower into the next scene, and I think Gilliam suggested aliens, just for shits and giggles, and I guess they went with it. But I might be wrong.
@waxuras - you're a total newb saying Monty Pythons sold out, you obviously don't have a clue what Pythons are all about - random silly bits that make no sense are their trademark quality
um... no way. I didn't completely miss something when I watched this movie, did I? I was probably 12 or 13 at the time, so it's been a few years, but seriosuly...

What's even funnier is that the 20th century city lights are clearly visible on the night side of the planet.
