im trying to teach myself japanese and im in college and i use leechblock too cuz i have the same issue as uuu XD im using the whitelist feature ("code" can be found on the creator-dudes website).
i decided certain sites...if i really wanna see them then ill go the library to see them nyehhh
Anyway thnx for the video...its totally how i feel.
im gonna be an exchange student in japan next semester so yayyy.
Thanks, I am unhappy to say that I am still very much addicted to my computer. I know, it should simply be a matter of self control, but that never works. I fail.
@RisuMiso Leechblock actually did help me. After posting my previous comment, I played around with the settings a bit more. The reason why I didn't post about it for two months, was that leechblock kept me out for two months. I'm a computer engineering student, so I'm constantly thinking of ways to get around leechblock, but overall the quality of this app is amazing. If you have the slightests inkling (or not) of willpower, this app will help you.
How very interesting! I should definitely give that a try. It would keep me more organized with the languages that I'm studying. I also find changing the language to Japanese and location to Japan on Youtube also helps for some immersion content. For me I have to actively use the word or phrase immediately after I learn it. (Via a chatroom, blog, forums ,etc.)
Sometimes I wish the internet doesn't exist so I can be productive. I think the internet caused my focus level to decrease. Oh well, I guess I should work on self-control as well.
I find lots of useful information on the internet. Sometimes I can even procrastinate about studying by reading about studying Japanese... That's not so good.
I'm so happy I'm not alone on this! Just yesterday I was telling my brother how I get so distracted by the internet when I'm studying Japanese. This Leechblock thing is going to help my so much thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!
I'm glad! You'll be amazed at how much more work you get done. I set mine up to allow me 6 minutes in every hour. Another thing is to time box. Set a timer like "timerfox" for 25 minutes. Don't do anything but study for 25 minutes. When you are done take a 5 minute break.
I have some dramas made into SRS cards with audio, picture and the sub. I'm still busy with other stuff to start them though. I have dramas on TV during the day when I"m studying.
As for leechblock, I don't use Firefox, but Chrome instead. I sort of wished I used Firefox because of Rikaichan and now this, yet Chrome is just better. I'll try to stop myself from going to those websites; it's tough as we all know.
As for games, I want a Japanese PS2. Lots of games in Japanese that I would play. Where do you get your Japanese PC games from? Download them? Buy them?
What makes it better than Firefox? Well from my experience it's faster. Also, a big plus for me here, it saves a lot of space. Going from Firefox to Chrome I have a lot more screen space and less of the browser in my way. Thanks for the link to use Rikaichan for Chrome.
I'm thinking of buying a PS3 now instead of a PS2. Maybe I'll see you on FFXIV, but until then I will buy FFXIII.
On Firefox 3.6 that just got released, there is a button that hides the browser bar and shows it on mouse over. But I have heard that chrome is faster.
I'm planning on getting FFXIII too, that has full voice overs, but it will still be way beyond my Japanese level. Here's to hoping for a good tax return! haha.
Admire your work ethic... this just might finally stop me from spending hours on facebook/twitter/youtube when I should be doing uni work... thanks man...
Also, when I did total immersion german, I changed my computer language and and all of my online language settings (like fb, twitter etc) into german... works a treat ;)
you'll be mixed with multiple languages...but your actual game setup will be all in japanese...seems like it would be super difficult with all the items/spells....
That's okay. having the game itself in Japanese is a huge challenge. Plus I would try to use Japanese as much as possible. And by December I expect my Japanese to have improved by leaps and bounds.
FFXIV good deal. I hope that they mix the servers like they did on FFXI so I can practice my Japanese without having to be on a Japanese server. I got lots of good japanese practice while playing FFXI
i'm pretty bad about wasting time on the internet... but i find if i take my computer to a coffee shop or bookstore, i actually get my work done versus if i stay at home. i don't really know why? maybe just the change in environment helps...
I've been watching all my american movies with Japanese subtitles.. Its been really helpful. Try to find a movie that has a lot of slang in it. That was way helpful... nan dake? Ohh yes.. Henry portrait of a serial killer was a good one. Lots of slang.
I won't make a video in Japanese for a long time yet. My speaking skills are really poor. I'm not putting a lot of focus on output yet, just lots of input.
I made a new rule that for 1 hour after いただきます we only speak Japanese at my house.
The best way to input is to output! Actors speak out their lines in order to memorize. They don't memorize and then speak. Or at least that is my lame theory....
And you study at home? In front of the computer? If I stay at home I end up sleeping, so usually I go to places like McDonalds to study.... I think that is why I am getting fat....
Speaking is using vocabulary and grammar that you already know. It does make you understand what you have learned a bit more though. Actors don't need to understand what they are talking about though, where as I do! If you input a lot of stuff output becomes more natural. When I'm studying I read Japanese out loud so I'm saying it, but not producing it myself. This way I get used to saying it and my brain can hear it. I'm outputting a little more these days but Input > output!
if i were to get a PS3 I would have to get Yakuza 4. Just like your self im trying to go AJATT I got so dramas coming in the mail. Im trying to pick up on studying all the time. Kanji is getting better but no were near you.
I don't know much about current games. I'll look into it when I'm in the market. And I don't do AJATT, but I do use the sentence method and immersion. AJATT has a lot of other things I don't agree with. It's got a lot of good stuff though.
Just because I finished RTK doesn't mean much. I've got a long way to go! Keep studying!
thank you a lot.... i am too addicted to internet, i really browse internet to learn but get distracted...

I used to play mmos too.... You know how you were talking about how one gets easily distracted well..... MMOs don't really help with that lol.
Hopefully, you can get your girlfriend to play or else get bitched out everyday D:
Anzwerz142 1 year ago
@Anzwerz142 The whole point of that was that I was going to play an MMO in Japanese, not the same thing.
Either way I don't study Japanese much anymore aside from conversation, and will NEVER play another MMO. Almost 2 years clear of that junk!

that add-on sounds like a good idea, but it'll make me frustrated with my decision to install it. lol.
you sound very determined to learn the Japanese language.
keep doing your best!!
and that carton of milk in the vending machine is bizarre, but somehow convenient.

You can get Rikaichan for google Chrome now. I've never used the browser. What makes it better than firefox? I'll PM you the link for the addon.
I just download games I used to play on nes and snes. I could go to a bookoff and buy an old famicom for 2000円 if I really wanted though.
