legit? AUDRA IS THE BEST BEGGAR WOMAN! i can't even deal with this woman... the way she just decides to hold "again" she knows she was supposed to cut out a few measures back! i love her SOOO much ugh this is genius there NEEDS to be a video recording on here like NOW!
For the San Francisco concert, Victoria Clark replaced Audra McDonald as the beggar woman, Timothy Nolen replaced Paul Plishka as Judge Turpin, and Lisa Vroman replaced Heidi Grant Murphy as Johanna. I believe the rest of the cast was the same.
A barber is sent to prison because a corrupt judge wants his wife. He comes back 15 years later with a huge grudge and sets up a barber shop above a meat pie shop with Mrs. Lovett. He murders people (trying to get to the judge, who now has his daughter) and she grinds up their bodies into meat pies.
Do you think you will make more of these for Sweeney? Or any other musicals for that matter? There fun. I did see you made 2 for Sweeney but I thought it be cool if you did A Little Priest and etc.
Thanks for your interest! At the moment, I don't have plans to make more of these for Sweeney, but it's always possible. I feel like the rest of the songs are so self-contained that it would be hard to put together a medley that didn't feel very choppy.
I made this one while putting together a playlist for the entire show, with the best songs (in my opinion) from each of these three recordings. But the ending tracks are so long and with so much going on that I couldn't settle on just one.
Excellent choice using the Michael Cerveris version for the judge's death. I personally think he pulls off the "BENJAMIN BARKEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!!!" line off the best.
His voice is incredibly cute, but have you seen him? He looks...creepy. At least he is in the picture in my Sweeney Todd script/book. His sideburns are huge!
You can get the stage version on DVD, but it's not quite the original cast. I have a book/script of it that I got when I went to New York, and it has pictures of the original cast. You might find a picture on google or something.
Have you seen "Lady in White" (1988)? Cariou (Todd) played Phil 'the Cliffside Killer' who would molest children and throw their bodies from a cliff to wash away post-mortem evidence.
