@rockheadrocks Yeah, there have been a lot of Animal puppets used. Each time he's rebuilt the head seems to get flatter and flatter. And the hair becomes longer and thinner... Personally, my favorites are the 1975 puppet and the 2008 puppet. They look totally different, but I like both the designs.
You know when I first saw The Muppet Movie when I was younger, I remember when Animal ate the cymbal like Cookie Monster would. And Cookie Monster would always come to mind when I saw that part. Considering Frank Oz did both, Animal and Cookie Monster.
Right. That's true. But if you've seen Muppet Treasure Island, he goes crazy on the chicken, like Cookie Monster would, when they meet the cook on the ship. Then Rizzo says, "If you're gonna take us on a tour on this ship, I'm gonna need a bigger pair of pants!" :D Not that that has anything to do with Animal or Cookie Monster.
@MrMetalmanRock Your right, it doesn't have anything to do with Animal or Cookie Monster. To me, he's something completely different, even if he is a big eater.
To me, Animal's funniest role has to have been when he got excited about Bob Hope being guest star on The Muppet Show and then repeatedly shouting "HOBBY!" before running offstage. XD Frank sure knew how to try and steal the spotlight from Jim, didn't he?
The Frank Oz Animal was woman crazy... and Eric Jacobson's Animal seems like a creature that misses its mommy... which is kinda disheartning as a Muppets Fan who has grown up with this stuff. All the MuppetLab videos I seen with Animal have him crying out to, or calling, his mom.
What happened to the hard rockin' crazy drummer who loved "WOMAN!!"?!
@disneynut06 RIght, I totally agree. I sooner fault bad writing or directing in a movie before I fault an actor (unless, of course, the actor is crap which is not the case with the Muppet Performers).
BUT I just meant it as an "era" thing... as a way of identifying "old" to "newer". I have no idea who writes for the characters in any given skit or show... so this is the only way I know how to classify without saying "Old/classic" and "new"
As far as taking over from someone else, I think Eric Jacobson has fared better on "The Muppet Show" than "Sesame Street". He totally has the stuff as Animal, only a step or two below Frank.
One really funny moment with Eric as Animal was in "It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie", where he's whacking the drum and going "BA-RUP-A-BUM-BUM, RUP-A-BUM-BUM! DRUMMER BOY!"
at the beginning and the end what's that song? please respond

Anybody else notice that there have been at least 3 different versions of the puppet? The newest one just doesn't look right to me.

@MuppetVoicesAndMore I love Muppet Family Christmas. This needs a DVD release... I need to find my VHS tape with the TV recording.

It's amazing how similar Cookie Monster and Animal are... not just in voice, but in their affection for what they consider "food".

@Rubberman202
Rizzo has a love for food as well.

@MrMetalmanRock Yeah, but he's small and sounds nothing like Animal or Cookie Monster. He's not even performed by Frank Oz.

@MrMetalmanRock He actually says: "If you're gonna be the COOK on this ship Mr. Silver, I am definitely gonna need bigger pants."

I hope he's "back to normal" for the new movie!

@Tenucha That's probably just a coincidence.
It's the writers who should not be at fault for something like that, not the performers.

Eric Jacboson is really spot on to Frank's, but I think it's a little less rough, and more similar to Eric's Fozzie.

@Garrettk41 I prefer Frank's Animal, it's more like...an animal
muppetlover16 8 months ago
@Garrettk41 I think Eric has fared rather well on Sesame Street too. Particularly with Grover.
disneynut06 7 months ago
@disneynut06 I hear you. Out of Frank's three major Sesame Street characters, I'd say Grover is definitely the one best performed today.
