Age, injuries (particularly to his biceps & knees), & the fact that he himself has said he felt that his time has passed--hence why he chooses to put newer talent over--are why he looks different. He also wore lifts to make himself seem more imposing in height when masked, but removed them as he started to remove the mask for health reasons (the full-face ones sucked the oxygen from his face & the half-ones impaired his vision).
