I live close to that scene and park my car during snow fall because I simply don't want to risk my life sharing the road with such stupid people. You have less traction on wet and dry pavement with studs, even over regular summer tires - the metal studs glide over the stone in the road - therefore they're more dangerous when there is no snow or ice on the road surface.

I use the X-Ice tires on my car, and the only time I ever had to use chains was travelling over a mountain pass and the snow in the lane was so deep it was dragging on the chassis. Other than that, those tires are magic!

And they don't damage the roadway like studs.
