  • At the end of th evid it that sounded like ignition break to me.

  • Everyone should know rotary is the way to go.

  • japan power bitch!

  • damn right. gotta love the rotary, what a beast

  • 1.3 Liter against what...a V8?.....pathetic american POS....RX7s RuLE!!

  • @wsaravia88 If that were even a teeny tiny bit true, there wouldn't be thousands of people shitcanning their wankels for 8 cylinders of detroit iron.

  • @powerviking

    8 cylinders of detroit iron that...........lose to a 1.3 wankel...........lol

  • Good run. And yes that over rev at the very end did sound bad. I actually got scared a bit lol

  • i love this video... i have a friend with a 04 cobra that i want to video tape him.. i have a single turbo fd with 356whp.. should be a good race

  • @beretta2211 Good race my ass, 350+hp FD is probably on par with a Z06

  • @ampy60 Actually.. I did end up racing my friend... 50-100 roll... I started in 3rd gear cause my tranny sucked.. I pulled on him about 1-2 car lenghts... My FD is sold and long gone though.. I have another 350z now... My fd went 8.0@ 92 in the 1/8 mile.. Street tires.

  • he didnt miss shift, he put the clutch in and reved it at him, saying yeah, i just spanked your ass...wasnt a miss shift.

and thats also one of the best sounding rx7s ive ever heard.

  • Ehhh. It sounded like a missed shift to me. The timing was exactly right for him to hit the next gear, but he let out the clutch too fast and it only made neutral. Sounds like his clutch was slipping in the beginning too.

  • he got real close to blowing an apex seal when he missed the shift , I heard it, it wasnt't the rev limiter it was the good old sound of abnormal combustion, I know for a fact it wasnt using a Power FC

  • there was no miss shifting . is ur ear working well

  • right at the end it seem like it , the video was cut short though, so I guess there's no way to tell exactly.

  • Uhhh since when do u blow a apex seal from a misshift and he was using a power FC

  • I could problably spend about 30 minutes explaining it to you why it could happen but I really don't feel like doing that , all I can tell you is that depending on what type of rev limit is used (fuel or ignition) there's a posibility of blowing the motor up,for example let's just say some guy has a fuel cut rev limit & he also has a wet system nitrous kit, when he hits the rev limit and the ECU cuts fuel, the TPS activated nitrous system is still flowing fuel causing a lean condition at full load

  • I know your giving a example but this is a turbocharged car so wouldnt that be different from a nitrous kit and it didnt seem to me he had rev that high when he misshift

  • A turbocharged aplication puts out more load therefore making that rev limit lean out even more dangerous with the nitrous example I gave you earlier. This is why is not good to squeeze on a stock computer with fuel cut rev limit with a non-rpm controled nitrous kit.Even though that is not this guy case, RX7's tend to have issues on high speed runs when everything on the turbo area hasn't been insulated properly since the turbo is right next to the intake manifold, hot air+high load=blow apex seal

  • Ok but this guy does have a rev limiter and if he hit the rev limiter its going to lose boost whcih doesnt put any load on the motor at all, if you listen when he misshifts it doesnt sound like he had rev that high

  • You know...... if there was money on the line , I would actually waste 30 minutes of my time to put a camera filming a boost gauge building boost next to a tach hitting the rev limiter on an FD , just to school you on that one , but since I'm not getting paid , I'm not gonna do that. The bottom line is that the only one of us with a tuner certification that sits on the dyno with rotaries on a daily basis is me. So that's it , I'm not giving you no more tips.

  • You know.... no one asked u to "explain" this to me you could of just ignored it but im not going to argue with an asshole "Tuner certification". I helped work on rx7s and took apart motors at the Rx7 Store but im not saying i know it all just letting you know that i know a little about rotary motors. But im not going to argue over this so im done to.

  • Comment removed

  • when u use anything else than a Power FC the speedometer don't work since it needs feedback from the ECU that only a plug and play will give ,

  • need to brake boost that thing

  • owned.

  • no matter how many times i see a rx-7 beat a car it still bring a smile to me an 1.3liter engine and ut run a 5liter hahahah

  • torque gets you off the line and then does nothing, so to be honest it dont mean much unless u are at a drag strip. now lets just all be amazed by how a 1.3liter and smoke most of your american cars with all there big torque numbers...or get a 4 rotor 600hp and 600ft/bs of tourge, its a 2.6 liter.

  • torque does not win races. horsepower wins races. torque is a fun gimmick. if you need proof of this ask your local physics prof to explain why horsepower wins races, not torque.

  • omfg. i love FD's... one of my favorite cars. but they are NOT torquey compared to a cylinder type motor!! fooor a random example i looked up... the apexi drift fd: 460hp, 360tq. yes i know 360ft/lbs of torque is a lot, but do the same tuning to an inline 6 and youll get more torque than hp. hp is just a function of torque and rpm's... and when it spins at 9000... well i think (hope) you can figure the self yourself. the ignorance is yours sir, because you assumed i'm a detroit iron guy,

  • The 7 never looses

  • um, NO. Rotaries produce less torque than a civic. Real Torque. The actual measurement. I love rotaries, and they're by no means slow. But torque is their weakest point. Don't get me wrong, if the motor is built and boosted to silliness, it'll have gobs of torque. BUT it'd have more if it had cylinders. sooo BACK AT CHA about ignorance. oooohhhh and btw i've owned an rx7... feeeels torquey sure, but really... no torque.

  • he's right you know...

  • You grew up int he dark age's lol. Saw someone on the forum the other day run 527rwhp/564rwtq in a street ported FD single turbo obviously. Amazing what tuning does for these cars...

  • I've never seen the tq higher then hp on any rotary. Maybe you have the numbers backwards.

Great vid btw!! He got the jump, but you reeled him in!

  • It is possible apparently. It was the only FD with a 13B single that's running those numbers. The dyno's don't lie. Also lack of tq are for 2 rotors, 20B's stock cosmo's often run higher TQ then HP. The other way to gain alot of Tq with a rotor is run E85 vs regular fuel.

  • lol, you think a rotary has torque.

  • ^Ignorance.

  • jajaja que sufran los Mustang

  • The 7 spun the tires for a good while...lotsa torque!
