I presume it was due their great motherland collapsed during the previous year. This song is one of the most epic songs of the Red Army, an expression of pure strength, pride and patriottic heroism. Since december 1991, after USSR's collapse, Russia lost all of its pride, all of its force, as a country under sales. I bet that woman felt what was happening to her country.
