  • More close to perfection than any other guitarist. The most well rounded guitarist. Fast too.

  • In the late seventies and early eighties he won best overall guitarist in guitar player magazine five times and they had to retire him from the competition to the gallery of the greats .

  • Have always loved this beautiful melody. Don't believe I've heard it played this fast!

  • Beautiful !!

  • Look dumb stupid cameramen. Just show both his hands close up all the time please

  • Steve came a long way from writing those codes with the dots and dashes. Bravo. You still look young.

  • Anyone know what brand of guitar that is?

  • @BTBHSOHBOY - It's a Buscarino Cabaret I believe.

  • Good job fellow pilot!

  • beautiful music steve you're gifted, glory to Jesus who died for us all

  • amazing!

  • I was lucky enough to see Steve perform Jesu live at The Dark Horse in Northampton circa 1991. An amazing show! He was joined by Dave and T later in the show for an electric set. After the show I asked him what transcription he used for this and Steve told me that he just picked out Parkening's version off record by ear!!! Incredible!!!

  • Chuck Norris's younger brother.

  • "...this is a piece by bach called jay z"

  • An Artist in his own right. Anyon that truly can replace the great Ritchie Blackmore and play all the Deep Purple repetoire year after year, while on the tour- would have too be pretty darn good. I can only think of a handful of truly awesome guitarists.

  • whats up with the shakey audio?

  • It's not just that he's an amazing guitarist. It's that he's one of the very finest musicians of our time. He has a singer's heart, that shines through when he solos, and he honors every aspect of Music in his writing and playing.

I can't think of any guitarist who could be said to be better than Steve. And honestly, you'd be hard-pressed to convince me that there's anyone as good, when you take the full range of his music into account. We are blessed, to share this space in time with him.

  • @jfl440 so beautifully stated my friend. Steve is truly on the top shelf, with his special place all of his own. He is simply remarkable. That's all that one can say.

  • Absolutely amazing! Makes me want to pick up a guitar and learn to play

  • This was magical!

  • Morse plays Bach on the classical guitar...

    :-O

  • Bass notes ! Aaah n stuff Brill ! jn : -)

  • wonder if this is the Parkening transcription?

  • @porpoisefathom Theres the exact tab of this (not credited to steve morse) on ultimate guitar

  • holy smokes.... despite his left index finger being 7" long..... this is very very smooth....... nice job.

  • Baaaach!!!!!

  • about as pretty as guitar gets

  • I think J.S. Bach would certainly approve of this beautiful version.

  • Really? Someone actually gave this a thumbs down?? Fucking Lady Gaga fans......

  • @fukthejonasbros Please watch your language, your comment will be removed, in the future please use appropriate words in your comments, thank you.

  • A true master and a class act all the way.

  • A very fine and versatile guitarist.

  • He looks like Kid Rock... Only more muscular and massively talented

  • The normal accolades cannot be used to describe Steve...

We must find a word that better suits him...what is the word I am looking for?

    Transcendent...yes...that's it...Transcendent!

  • God bless you Steve...I've been a fan for nearly 30 years, man!!! Rock on!

  • I have never seen him do this. This guy is just incredible.

  • I think J S Bach would have had multiple o:s if he had heard this.

  • Impressive!

  • Since the late seventies ( and since 1981 for me personally), Steve Morse has been providing us with huge inspiration and great music ( whether it's his or Jesu by Bach ), and continues to do so today - Thankyou Steve, we love you man!

  • since 1981 Steve Morse has been a huge inspiration/mentor to me and many musicians around the world - thanks Steve, we love you man!

  • I agree. I have John Petrucci's "wild stringdom" where he mentions that he used to practise Dixie Dreggs songs using a metronome in his grandmas house.

  • Nah, Steve ain't underated. He is defintely a guitarist's guitarist.

  • yeah. ask any guitarist who he is and they'll go crazy.

  • steve morse. never remembered with the "great ones". yet he would destroy every one of them. underated and undeserving of it. a class act and in my opinion, the supreme guitar master with us now.

  • There's nothing Steve can't do with a guitar in his hands. I think he's got superhuman powers!

  • Jesus is proud of this musical masterpiece!!!!

  • TRULY DIVINE!!!! If you want your guitar to sing to God, play this!!!

  • Inspirational song FOR GOD TO GOD!!!!

  • Absolutely incredible arrangement... The best guitarist has a version of this piece (Leo Kottke, Baden Powell, Laurence Juber and others) but this one really stands out

  • It has to be one of the most beautiful transcriptions of Jesus Joy of Mans Desiring that I've heard in a long time. I'd bet it's his.

  • Great!Steve Vai is also classically trained he just doesn't play that style all to often and Malmsteen can play the classics but as far as finger picking goes that is where Morse shines but I've seen al di meola play compositions all done classical and finger picked.

  • @blitzspeer Vai is great, but he has mention many times that he doesn't play classical to any degree. He also dislikes most classical and earlier composers, preferring more modern composers like Stravinsky and Varese.

  • Tommy Emmanuel also Pick and thumb pick as well...

  • To my knowledge, Steve Morse is the only guy to have really mastered both ends of the guitar spectrum. He's an amazing and gifted plectrum guitarist, but then to master classical as well! Awesome. Course there could be others, but I cant think of any. Steve Morse is da man!!!

  • John McLaughlin, Al di Meola, Eric Johnson come to mind...

  • none of those guys play classical guitar. they may play their own tunes on a nylon string acoustic sometimes, but they do not play classical music like steve does.

  • The co guitarrist from Megadeth nowadays, can´t remenber the name, but ihe is also pretty good at classical playing..Can´t tell whos better really´, but they are all great.

I do believe Steve is more naturally talented, while the others have to practice harder to get to his level

    Just my opinion :)

  • Chris Broderick, I just remenbered.

  • Hah, I was about to mention him when I read your post!

  • He's not the only, but he's no doubt among the best who play both classical guitar and electric guitar.

  • A genius in the purest sense of the word. Bravo Steve and thank you for such beautiful music.

  • it isn't hard to find this kind of precision with a true classical master. steve morse though, is naturally perfect in every style of guitar in his arsenal. an amazing technician, so many things, so well.

  • sheer poetry, thanks for uploading.

  • I bought this DVD for $10 not knowing steve morse. This absolutely blew me away. I couldn't get over it...I still can't. This concert is AMAZING. Steve's music is poetic and rich. Music is beautiful.

  • Jesu Joy Of Man's Desiring

  • Music to soothe the soul. The fullness of that guitar is wonderful.

  • What can I say that hasn't been said before about Steve?

I have loved his music for over 25 years...What an uncommon GENIUS!!!

  • agree man, Steve is Wonderful.

    cheers from Argentina

  • this is one of the most amazing things i*ve ever seen and heard omg i'm only impressed!!!i've seen him live with deep purple 2 times i cannot believe my eyes on this guy 5 stars

  • This is Jesu, Joy of Man's Desire...

  • great

Steve is always on my mind

  • omg!! this is amazing!!

i love steve morse..cant stop talkin about him to my mates lol

  • Perfect!!!!

  • Peace and unconditional love...

  • Steve can make a grown man cry....thank you

  • @rokio59

Yes, he can make. :'), but it's an good cry, isn't?

  • This may be the most beautiful melody ever written. And Steve's interpretation more than does it justice.

Thanks SO much for uploading this performance. It's as amazing as I remember it being when I saw him do it sixteen years ago.

  • BEAUTIFUL!
