My comment is for people who think learning anything in life means somebody else must move your jaw and help you swallow your food.!!
He basically said there are more positions same scale starting from different string!!!
Now it takes seconds to find where those positions are on the net. There are hundreds of free programs showing where all the scales are.I am a beginner guitarist and I understand free video in 2min is not meant full 1 hr lesson!!!
This concept, combined with a little bit of research as to where to find the notes in the key, opens possibilities that a set position does not offer.
There is something to be learned that is basic, and some of you are critical because you are looking for virtuoso performance or hand-holding baby steps.
Now, take a minute and go back and run the video again. Note his point about the "extended dynamic range". Now, you should get the concept he is offering.
it his not his fault he cant teach you guys the pentatonic scales in 2 minutes, chill the fuck out and stop trying to learn everything for free on youtube he is dippin your toes in the water basically by showing you this video. you have to jump into it yourself and take initiative.
This bald headed fellow doesn't really want to teach any lesson. Instead, he wants to showcase his awfull guitar playing skills. Garbage. I think he is suffering from ADHD and forgot the medication on that morning.
WTF THIS ISNT BLUES ITS METAL. theres no blues rhythm, blues isnt about scales. you can play blues without knowing shit about scales and know what the individual notes sound like and it should work, btw ive never seen a blues player sweep pick
i know i got emotional and said stuff that wasnt true in this video but still its not blues. its just scales. but theres no true syncopated rhythm or anything hes just playing metal. sorry man it was my mistake. im pretty good at guitar not a technical player but i just made a mistake cus i dont play metal, sweep pick do arpeggios or run down a scale i kinda freeform things. and btw im on my new profile
i no theres no rythem here but when i wanted to jam with my buddies and play some solos as i go along i sounded terrible but when i learnt the scales i got more familier with the notes and what they sounded like and i could make up solos as i go along while playing with my friends. scales are really helpful
ackooks, you know nothing about guitar. What the hell makes this metal? A lot of distortion? "blues isnt about scales" REALLY??? Cuz I'm pretty sure blues is all about scales. Minor pentatonic and blues pentatonic mostly, but also major pentatonic and even dorian in blues rock. "you can play blues without knowing shit about scales" Maybe someone with perfect pitch, but certainly not you. My guess is you can't play anything on guitar. Maybe a few crappy open chords. You know nothing.
He's using his nail to sweep the strings. That's not finger picking, and not traditionnal sweeping, but it can be called sweeping, cause it's almost the same technique.
Every blues player in history knew the blues scale. You sir, are a pretentious cunt who probably doesn't even play an instrument other than your own penis... with your mouth.
tabs suck balls.. this guy gave a great lesson... pay attention to what he does and then figure out the rest yourself. eric, duane and jimi learned using their eyes and ears.
wtf is with this thing about being able to play FAST and LOUD with harmonics all the time?? Blues is not about that. So many of these vids called "how to play the blues" are more about playing notes and scales (which are NOT indigenous to the blues) than learning BLUES, per se. If you want to learn to play blues, learn some freakin techniques and chords. This video is of no help to anyone, they want you to buy their stuff.
might as well be trying to figure that out watching a live concert...teaching is always appreciated but most people that look this up probably can't shred in 4 different scale positions at the speed of a turtle much less that of an advanced musician...show off playing a song
he is showing you the various positions on the neck of the A pentatonic scale so you can stay out of the basic pentatonic box that alot of newer guitar players get stuck in.Take the positions that he is showing you and play over some backing tracks and use em all, mix em up and get a feel for how they flow together to work out some leeds that work.the lesson here isnt what he is playing, its the positions he is playing in.
Blues ? . . Lesson ? . . Dude I think you're just showing off what you can do. I learned sweet F A cause it's too fast. Plus what you played sounds like the blues, just like bears don't sh!t in the woods
well, i dont think that this was for begginers. perhaps you should learn some blues scales first and the names of the notes on the fretboard. i agree though that he does flourish a bit too show how to get a certain flavor? i hope that helped
it's quite clear, after playing AFDGE you move to the 3rd string on the second pattern and just get another A pentatonic and bend the last string!!! thanks dude i can play blues now!!!! this is hogshit
Plays like he talks too fast, who learned anything from that? The guys not teaching he's on a ego trip. As Santana once said, the importance of the one note. Lesson for you there teacher John. Listen to Stevie Ray Vaughan learn more from Stevie, warning to Guitar players don't give up after watching the master.
I dont get it... guys like this, have all the education, can play like a motherfuck, yet, they sit around with this talent and knowledge... and fuk the dog so to say.
WHY DONT I SEE THESE PEOPLE MAKING ALBUMS OR SOMETHING ?!?!?!?!?!
not every educator has the same luck writting and recording as the average "I don't know any theory" type players. Also, because this guy does have some theory and music knowledge I'm sure he has difficulty finding other players who can speak the language. I know I do.
the best musicians will tell you that the easy part of music is performing...the hard part is writing it. Of course to some of us performing isnt easy..but to the best it is.
right i know hardly anythin bout guitars so if u say learnt loads on an acoustic guitar would it be the same as electric would u be able to do this on acoustic for example?
Did he say "open up the greater dynamic range of the guitar" at about 1:20? Does he know that "dynamics" refers to VOLUME, not to note pitches? I hope so. That's one of the kind of terms you learn in the first week of 6th grade band, or on your first piano lesson. Makes me wonder if he REALLY knows what he's talking about.
Dynamics does NOT only refer to volume it can refer to a range of different things that change the over all feel of a piece of music. In this case i believe he is refering to the tone change as he works his way up the neck. it makes me wonder if YOU know what YOU are talking about.
The standard musical definition for dynamics is volume (and the contrast and changes thereof). Tone change is timbre (pronounced tamber). And I happen to be a music major. I think I do know what I'm talking about.
jesus christ, so the guy said dynamics instead of pitch, im sure your huge ego isnt helping anyone, and telling everyone how to pronounce tibre as if ur some sort of musical god is just patronising
Thanks for criticizing me when you don't know me. I really appreciate it. As for me being a musical god, I'm all too aware FAR, far from that. I'm still learning and I've still got quite a ways to go. What I'm concerned about here is that this guy is a teacher, or at least acting as one, and therefore should use the right words for the benefit of his pupils.
ok, the only thing is that he did in fact use it correctly because dynamics are how u attack the note as well, and legato was one of the ways he used during his example. though dynamics do include volume changes, it also refers to the approach of the note.
i agree that was just a blues based riffs and not blues......BUT what i want to know is what kind of pickups he was using, the pickups sounded really good even if what he was playing did not.
esta persona no sabe tocar blues,le dejo un mensaje.escucha a jimmy hendrix,albert king,buddy guy,b.b.king,clapton,muddy waters,j.winter....buscalos en youtube.
Yeah, seriously, tell us WHAT the notes are and WHERE there are for the people who can't tell that easily. I could also barely hear the guitar. And his accent is funny.
there's this wonderful invention i think you haven't heard of yet. It's called GOOGLE. But caution, you might have to use your brain! He allready stated it's an A minor pentatonic scale. So type it in google for all the info you could ever want. Yes it's just so damn hard!
wow. so this guy made a whole video, and showed us what the scale sounded like, just so we could look up the notes on GOOGLE?!! He could have showed the notes, maybe said the individual ones or something.
Hearing the scale and understanding how its used sounds helpful to me... And if you REALLY cared about petatonic scales, WHY THE HELL DIDN'T YOU LOOK THEM UP YOU MORON.
this guy sucks. "lemme show you the pentatonic scale, i'll start off by playing it so fast you don't know what's going on, and play the same scale too fast, but on DIFFERENT strings!" i didn't learn a single thing from this jerk off.
"You can open up the greater dynamic range of the guitar." Guitars have very little, if any, dynamics compared to other instruments. And he's pretty much telling us what we already know, which isn't telling us how to play it.
I play An ESP LTD HD400 with the chunky EMG pickups. I play through a shitty Ibanez tone plaster 100W amp with a behringer ultrametal stomp pedal and a Graphic EQ pedal after that. Im looking for a new amp to buy but I can live with the one I have for now haha
I don't want to be a dick... but ya, in blues, you COULD call that A, but it's really C... The C in A is C#, and the G is G#... but ya, in blues, it's nextdoor to jazz... but be careful, right? =P
You can't be a good teacher, you just try to promote yourself .

Instead of coming to this lesson with YOUR preconceptions about what is being taught, how about you pay attention to the lesson being taught?
What I mean is, the point is not to show you WHERE the notes are, but to suggest to you where the position changes come from.
He is demonstrating that the same scale (in this case A) can be played at five positions, each moving up the low E to meaningful notes in the key.

wow. so this guy made a whole video, and showed us what the scale sounded like, just so we could look up the notes on GOOGLE?!! He could have showed the notes, maybe said the individual ones or something.

Hearing the scale and understanding how its used sounds helpful to me... And if you REALLY cared about petatonic scales, WHY THE HELL DIDN'T YOU LOOK THEM UP YOU MORON.

hes playing the notes acdeg (pentatonic minor) starting w/ acdeg from 5th fret then:
8th - cdega, 10th - degac, 12th - egacd, 15th - gacde (all in 2 octaves) learn where the notes are dumbdumbs!

this guy sucks.
