  • Ya?

  • Still more watchable than Wild Strawberries.

  • This is one of the funniest skits ever in MST... History.. being from MN and ND.. i totally get it... tyvm....... Brilliant...!!!!!

  • This shows the genius of MST3K. They start with an accurate spoof of Ingmar Bergman movies, which could be called "high brow" humor, then finish with a silly play on an old beer slogan, or "low brow" humor. No matter the style of comedy, these guys are just freakin' funny! If only RiffTrax & Cinematic Titanic could merge and reunite all this talent once more.

  • The payoff is totally worth it!

  • my favorite film director parodied by my favorite science fiction comedy series? I am in awe

  • Brilliant and deep :D

  • When you're out of Schlitz, you're out of beer.

  • @AlacarLeoricar So true!

  • ROFL, It's the seventh sail all over again for me ^_^

  • I played checkers with death and beat him by cheating,ja.

  • The only thing it's missing is a character named Karin.

  • "You da boards, and I da slits."

  • this might be my favorite host segment ever. it is SO accurate!

  • Haha, I've loved this sketch for years. MST3K is so awesome. And this sketch is especially hilarious if you know Bergman's films. lol My only minor complaint on this is that the audio fluctuates. (The linguistic pun at the end is priceless....)

  • For some reason Crow looks creepier in this one.

Probably that dead look on his face.

  • ....Guess you had to hear Liv Ullman tell it.

  • Bergman's very good, but can be a little slow. "Wild Strawberries" is probably his most well-known film but, if you can find it, watch "Shame" it's contemporary and a departure from his often brooding and and introspective style.

  • @mediamadman747 Try THE SEVENTH SEAL and THEY STY IN THE DEVIL'S EYE.

  • @feverdeanmg Gracias.

  • All I had to do was describe this skit to my parents and they laughed and said "Yeah!" They totally got the Bergman references.

I have yet to see one of his films. Recommended? Y/N?

  • Very "Y"

  • Not enough pausing between phrases to be considered Bergmanesque. Also, not enough sexual repression.

  • @Geradness well, to be fair the skit is only 4 minutes long. they didn't have the two hours that ingmar bergman had w/ his films.

  • i love the occasional seagull caws and dog barks. Its a huge setup but i think its worth it

  • Ya?

  • There is no aspect of MST3K that is unappealing.

  • Hey, now, wait a minute! I've been a fan for years, and I have to say that ...

No, you know what? You're 100% correct. I love that show.

  • i disagree. the fact that it is no longer aired is unappealing. =(

  • @Kekauket Maybe spongebob is more your speed?

  • That was a long LONG way to go for a joke..but in typical MST3K fashion they make it all the more funnier than it appears :3

  • That was fantastic. I love the long camera pans.

  • I'm Swedish, and I've seen "Det Sjunde Inseglet" (The Seventh Seal) twice. I have, however, not seen a commercial for Schlittz. Still, I found this clip quite funny.

  • It sure is dark.... and deep hehe

  • You the boards and I the slits. Begin.

  • Who has got it going on? Michael J. Nelson, that's who!

  • highbrow

  • You just don't get it, glassdub.

  • Yeah, because WoW was HUGE back in 1995. *rolls eyes*

  • I get the distinct impression that most Mystery Science Theater humor dangles out of your intellectual reach and that, by trolling this video thread, you're telling us those grape must taste sour.

(BTW, World of Warcrack did not come out until 2004.)

  • It must be hard being a single-celled organism.

    Peace,

    Bob.

  • Somehow, I find this skit slightly creepy XD

  • I prefer the Swedish chemist joke -

MAN- "I`d lyke some deodorant please"

CHEMIST- "Certainly sur, ball or aerosol?"

MAN- "Neither, it`s fur mi armpits"

-Thank you! I`ll be living out my futile existence despite an uncaring universe at the copacabana lounge between 9 and 9.30 every evening from July.

  • @Gjeorje okay, i have to admit, that made me chuckle. :)

  • mst3k is a brillant show. (sad to think that this show is off the air and total crap like desperate houswives is on the air:-(

  • to the person surprised that they know about strindberg/ibsen - do you not know the show? they are pretty damn erudite and knowledgeable about cultural figures -- ALL OVER THE PLACE. this is minnesota, after all. nordics galore.

  • actually I did notice my own poor remark soon after I posted it but then itwas to late o rebamp it, Of course they are knowledgeable! "surprised" was a bad choice of word from my side what I meant to say was that I admire them for that and for the trust they have in theirs fans to know they would understand the skit

  • which episode is this?

  • 'The Sword and Dragon'; see video description

  • Wow! excruciating...

    brilliant parody and great punchline.

  • I know I am an idiot... but...

    I just don't get the punchline -_- I know it's a pun, but I don't understand what it's a pun OF.

  • No you are not an idiot.

It is a wee bit obscure unless you remember American beer commercials from the 80's.

The line is: " And so you see, when you are out of slits, you are out of pier"

There was a series of older American beer commercials whose tag line was, "When you are out of Schlittz, you are out of beer."

All that build up for such a cheesy punch line. It kills me.

  • Whew! I feel better now... I was born in 1982, so I wouldn't remember those.

Thanks so much for explaining XD

  • I, too, thank you for explaining the joke behind the joke, as it were. I was born in '84 (and I also don't drink), so this was pretty much way over my head. The whole thing just got funnier. (I love it when they have a big build-up just for a cheesy punchline.)

MST3K rules. It's proof that it is possible to be both intelligent and funny.

  • @dougzilla At least someone was kind enough to explain it for those that find the reference a little obscure (As most MST3k humor is).

  • @MarveIed I'm old enough to sorta remember who Ingmar Bergman was. Never watched his work. Didn't need any more depression than I already had. Plus I remember the Schlitz slogan. But my son didn't know who Bergman was, or what Schlitz was and he still found it funny.

  • Ingmar Berman just recently passed away...

  • HELIUM!

  • LoL strindberg , bergman and ibsen in the same scene, I'm impresed of mike and the bots even knowing about ibsen and strindberg

  • Varför det? De vet nog mer om Sveriges historia och folk än du, bland *många* andra saker...

  • som att Ibsen är norsk menar du?... nä, jag förklarar min insändare längre ner

  • LOL that's hilarious :D

  • I think it's the only way to deal with such great ersons like Ingmar Bergman, to laugh a little bit about them.

  • One of the funniest TV comedic moments (imho) of all time!! Bring back MST3K!!!!!!!!

  • Genius!!

  • I love you, Eleven. Q & T wants to have your spawn.
