I think there is one important fact that no one seems to consider. This planet is OVER 4,500,000,000 years OLD.
YET Our human limitations of scope, perspective and understanding generally cause us to think in terms of our OWN life spans as as rule or measure of time. For GODS sake, In planetary terms, as far as cycles are concerned, we can do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ..... to re-direct a global phenomenum such as this, REGARDLESS of whether we contributed to its cause or not! We're History !
The scientific consensus seems to be that we're locked into a process of climate change that will be irreversible for thousands of years. I don't see how putting up windmills etc as "climate change protesters" want is going to change that. Protesting, & conflating climate change with "globalisation" may make people feel better but that's about it. Recycling may make better use of remaining landfill, but it won't save the planet. Hope I'm wrong, of course, but ... Good video: thanks for posting.
LoveLock would tell you that its not about saving the planet. Gaia could do fine without us. We have to save ourselves. We are changing the homeostatic balances on the planet to cycles that are unfavorable for us, but are favorable to a whole host of other organisms. I agree with James LoveLock that many of us will die, our way of life cannot, will not be sustained for much longer. Enjoy it while it lasts because its not going to last for long.
HELLO.. i really like your video is excellent.. and I need a favor please.. i'm an English student from Venezuela, and i need the script of yor video.. i'm very interested in get the script because i am going to use this video for a class..
the post-industrial nations of Europe and North America are situated, by wealth and by military power, to ensure that they have at least a toe-hold in the world of the new ecology, in the new Gaia, but at what cost to everyone and everything else?
the ethical challenge we are facing is at least as monumental as the ecological, probably greater
Global warming and global cooling has always occurred and will always occur. We have seen greater degrees of warming and cooling in a shorter time span in the recent past (Younger Dryas, Holocene Optimum, and Little Ice Age).
The main point of contention among a vast majority of scientists is whether or not we are approaching or past the tipping point wherein the earth shifts dramatically into another climate regime that is permanently hotter than the current climate regime.
My opinion may be in the minority today, but climate study is new science. Claiming that we may "permanently" be hotter than the current climate is ridiculous. Nothing is permanent. Don't forget that for the last 10 years the earth has continued to be cooler than the peak in 1998. More CO2 doesn't always mean warmer global climate. Other factors are involved. There have been several LONG periods in earth's history when CO2 was as much as 10 times today's levels yet we were in an ice age.
I use "permanent" in a relative sense. When the climate regime shifts or pops into one stage up, some estimates put the recovery period at about 200,000 years, assuming we stop producing CO2 soon thereafter (no guarantee of that!). That's 20 times the length of all recorded history. Might as well be permanent!
See James Lovelock's work for a systems sciences view. That will provide a better understanding how the planet actually works. Standard linear thinking doesn't cut it!
First and foremost, the global climate system doesn't soley work on positive feedbacks which is what Lovelock basis his entire theory on. Secondly, it has not been established that CO2 is the climate driver that some make it out to be. If it was, then why was the earth in glaciation at the end of the Ordovician period when Co2 levels were 4500ppm?
but an indistrial human civilisation has never had to survive a global temperature spike before ... humans will probably survive as a species, but can our "civilisation" survive a 5 degree rise in the average global temperature?
@chicagogeorge the earth hasn't cooled since 1998... there are no temperature recording stations in the arctic where the earth is heating up the quickest. according to NASA the hottest year was 2005 - with 1998 and 2007 tied for second

Our species has great potential, but a key step involved is re-connecting with Gaia, our Mother Earth. The more folks do that, the more we will realize that our fate as a species and that of the planet are intertwined and that we are PART OF this living planet. Wisdom about what to do will come from that awareness!
But how many thousands of years would such a huge jump in evolution like that take - we simply don't have the time left to hope for an entire species to suddenly start operating on such a massively heightened level of awareness
Most members of our poor human race are still happily driving cars and watching X-factor!
How much is destiny vs. decided by individuals? Is an evolutionary step REQUIRED for salvation of our species? Is possible to separate survival of civilization from survival of the human species. If so, how can we deconstruct civilization vs. let it be destroyed via violent chaos? Evolution happens in surprising leaps! And we as individuals make changes, via challenges that help us grow or develop. Who is to say if we are on the precipice of a major evolutionary jump of awareness?
This is a really worthwhile video to have out there on the internet. It is full of information and the production qualities are right up there. Great job JJCProducer!!!
I also like the producer's response to the earlier post by Jyuuken7Hinata.
1) Gather other kids who are concerned and talk about it.
2) Every thinking person can study the issue on their own. (Share my videos, but know that there is much more to it!). Study the science (James Lovelock's The Revenge of Gaia and many other books).
3) ALL kids can ask authority figures what they are doing to change the destructive habits of civilization.
4) Insist on change and NEVER give up.
Humanity is worth it and the future belongs to you young people.
I think you are right. We are wasting our time on stopping it instead on reacting to climate changes.
