  • LOL LABTOP

  • that laptop is levitating...

  • How does it compare to mpc2kxl

  • is akai mpd's better than korg padkontrol?

  • Ohhh, I have been looking for one of those M-Audio Trigger Fingers for a bit now...they are snakey and very difficult to find. If it is that you are ever in the mindset to shed it from your arsenal, by all means shoot me a message and I will gladly work with you on a price.

As always, very clean design on your Home Studio station here. You above all else I do believe are one that truly appreciates the even balance of aesthetics and functionality. Keep the videos coming! Another thumbs up!

  • How are you routing this ?

  • Don`t be fooled into thinking that this is a bad piece of equipment because the software for programming buttons blows. As with any decent MIDI device you can always program it directly. It takes a little patience to get a hold of all the MIDI messages, their types etc etc, but once you get it-it`s a piece of cake, basically. I have a keyboard and I don`t even use the software that came with it. It`s non-essential to the full functionality of a controller, so to speak.

  • cool hair bro

  • what do you think about getting one of these or getting a Maschine?

  • what do you think its better akai mpd 18 or two of akai lpd8 plz response i need to order soon...ty in advance

  • i was looking in to the mpd 32 or the mpd 26 with the mpk mini and i cant decide which to go with because the 32 will cost about the same as the 24 and mini i want the mini to run with Schwarzenegor and little brother patches in ableton live but im not sure if the extra gear on the 32 is worth it because i can only purchase either or at this time can anyone help me out?

  • How About A Little Demonstration Dude.

  • Comment removed

  • what else do you have in the studio(hardware)? i saw the audio 8 and that made me curious... thanks for the vid btw

  • with the mpd can it control a keyboard while prodcing at the same time?

  • tnx man

  • he looks gay as fuck

  • @headcut2007 keep you're bull shit to yourself

  • what would you recommend, this or the korg PadKontrol?

  • why would you even play live with that small one?

  • @SwitchedProjex Skrillex does.. its lame

  • @SSiadat187 I think its stupid, just lay down some tracks, fuck playing that live lol

  • Holy shit look at that floating laptop.

  • YO-DO YOU KNOWE ???-can i use the mpd32 a daw and a turntable to sample vinyls like with an mpc ??????

  • can u use it withou a computer??

  • @han549 I'm not sure but as far as I know it has midi out.. so yes..

  • hey i dont whant to talk shit about producer did somebody can make a real jam on this everyting i found sound smoth i dont realy like soul and slow stuf i wana c someone fast on the mpd?

  • do u need an external sound card or is the incorporated enought ? what do u recomend ?

  • @UtubeHUNTER99 it hooks up to your computer via usb so the device itself does not hook up to your sound card. it depends on what you want to do with the sound which is transfered to your computer.

  • do u need an external sound card or can u use it whit your incorporated sound card ? what do u recomend ?

  • hey I currently have the mpd24 can I use it to perform live with my music or do I have to get the mpd32 due to the extra features on it ?

  • ...you clearly know what you're talking about, but you just don't have the language to convey what you mean. I only understood the last 20 seconds or so. From what you were mumbling I think you rate it as a useful bit of kit. Is that about right?

  • what about the AKAI MPC4000? and uno in the song 'one by swedish house mafia' what is he using in that mayn? im just starting and i want to make all kind of beats, but fresh, with NO loops, i want to do it all myself. I do have riddum bcoz ive been playin the drums years, so im not a complete tard with no riddum :) i want to start producin bcoz i feel drums are boring me now. also i have a macbook pro i7 processor, and does sound sick, so will i really need to get that sound card you got?thanks.

  • is that labtop levitating?

  • @skaternoa26 Yea it's hidden feature on macbooks. ;)

  • @sdjacobus No really. How?

  • @skaternoa26 nope its on a laptop stand LOL. u must be trying to be sarcastic.

  • @mixxinmel well obviously its not levitating but it kinda looks like it.

  • Comment removed

  • @Vidmakr6302 you can plug it in and use whatever sound you want. no sound itself comes from the unit. data is sent to the computer which is turned into sounds.

  • Parking your monitors on top of a pair of hollow Ikea cardboard boxes is probably one of the worst things you could do for the acoustics of your studio.

  • Will the MPD32 fit in a turntable case? Is it bigger or smaller than your turntable?

  • That's more stuff than I'll ever use. Sure looks awesome though.

  • DGK ALL DAY

  • P.S.

It's like getting a shit guitar in a gorgeous case

    lol

Trigger Finger and Kontrol Pad are best ..........

Do not fall for faders and knobs..................

  • When it comes to midi controllers, it's the controls that DO matter, so how can you say "don't fall for faders or knobs"? While that might not be important to you, it's a factor that many people want to know about. As far as your other comment about the response.. you can adjust the sensitivity.

  • @sdjacobus Yeah, exactly! That`s what midi controllers are for lol! I`m looking for programmable buttons+transport controls + drum pads. I`m into metal and stuff, basically I`m a one-man orchestra lol and I have to have separate controllers for bass and drums(and dedicated sequencer controls). For bass I`m using a keyboard and looking forward to purchasing a controller with drum pads. I mean, that`s what decides the level of "coolness" of a midi device-the number of programmable controllers! xD

  • @cMaXeJIJIo can you hook up the mpd24 to a turn table without any software.

  • @sdjacobus mpd 32 or 24?

  • @sdjacobus good review dude. im getting 1!!!

  • @sdjacobus is 'DOKTOR242' saying the pads are better trigger finger / pad kontrol? how do the pads all compare with each other??

  • @DOKTOR242 Looked into getting a trigger finger. It's not compatible with windows 7 and has been discontinued...

  • @DOKTOR242 and what makes them better then bud

  • @DOKTOR242 True. If you want Faders... MOTOFADE! Beringer has a cheap Masteringsuite

  • for 300 bucks AKAI shame on you ..............

  • You forgot to mention that the pads

require a fucking hammer to play

    worst pad controller ever.....................

pads are so not responsive .....................

  • @DOKTOR242 of the mpd or trigger finger?

  • adjustable sensitivity..?

  • @DOKTOR242 You are a retarded one, arentcha? :)))))

  • hi, i have a doubt, hope you can help me out, how can i get to work the assignable faders as volume controlers? i have been reading the damn manual but it doesnt really help a lot, thank you for your time, hope you can help me out

  • What software are you using?

  • @sdjacobus i'm using the fl studio, is the software the problem? or wich one do you recomend me to do that?

  • I'm not familiar with using FL studio, but essentially you have to midi map the faders to the volume faders (or whatever else you want to control) in your software. You should be able to do it without much problem. Look for someone that uses FL or hit up some forums online.

  • hey i what software should i use for my padkontrol? which is the best?

  • Very helpful. Thank you.

  • next question would having Akai Professional APC40 make the need for this redundant?

  • Not quite. Even though I know a lot of people who sold their drum pad controllers to buy the APC40, it doesn't have velocity sensitivity. The APC40 also has much much smaller 'pads'. If you've got the cash, having both would be ideal. Just depends on what you're doing.

  • did you try the korg padkontrol? i am at a tossup btwn the two.

  • i've tried it and then bought the MPD 24. i think the MPD has got the better pads... by the way. the pads on the 24 and 32 are the same.

  • thanks for the feedback

  • i got a pk,they are awesome,,

  • Way too much background noise. Get to the frigging point, nobody cares why you're upgrading. Just talk about it.

  • kind of a boring review. good though at least.

  • what type of speakers are those? I've seen them on most producer's studios.

  • Look up KRK.

  • Slammin! Background noise. =-)

  • DGK!

  • you're the first to mention that :) DIRTY GHETTO KIDS!

  • thanks, im getting a MPD24 and i was worried that i was missing out on something that i would need in the 32 but this helped!! MPD 24 here i come!! lol

    -STARKS!

  • is that you ghostface?

  • Some say Vanilla Face.

  • Aleeinwonderland, buy am mpk 25 or 49 over the axiom, pads feel great and keyboard is sturdy! Price for an mpk 25 is 3-4hundred bucks, well worth it!!

  • So the knobs on both 24 and 32 dont click right? Thanks

  • Is that an Ikea Galant desk?

  • yep

  • Where did you get the MPD from and how much???

  • Hi,

    Thanks for the review,

I'm currently wondering which MIDI controller to choose. I see you have an Axiom keyboard, there are drum pads too on it how are they compared to the MPD ones ? (sensitivity etc...)

One last question, I really loves the groove starting at the end of your video, what is it ?

    Aleen

  • does anyone know how to make the samples not overlap each other, when choppe din reason 4? im having a serious problem, like i put it in the sampler, and i cant figure out how to make the mpd32 not overlap.. and how to assign each sample with each pad

  • Blackdot50, there's many ways to tackle your problem in Reason 4. The simplest is to load 16 samples or hits in the NN19 or NNXT and set the polyphony to 1. This will mimic how an MPC cuts off the previously triggered pad. If you don't know how to keymap samples in these devices check the manual, it's easy to understand and is well worth the time. If you don't mind only 10 pads, use the length knob in the Redrum channels. Hope this helps.

  • yes... the little switch thing next to the "Length" knob..

og u can turn donw the length

  • I have the akai mpd 32.. and I fucking hate the pads.. sounds more efectove a real mpc, or other pads I tried before... the faders are bad too.. all mine are crooked.. the knows are good, and the material of the body is hard too.

  • will this work with mac?

  • Yes.

  • Yes, actually you can do a live performance with this. Just like you can use ANY instrument or midi controller in a live show...

  • What is the song playing in the background?

  • Sounds great.....in theory. The pads on the midi controllers are pretty whack compared to real drum machines though. Synching with a DAW will still be hassle (just like it is with a real MPC).

  • Thanks for your effort, purchasing one this week :)

  • dude, these are /not/ the same pads as the mpc1000.. those are much narrower (and have a sturdier, more mpc200 feel) than these..

tempo has been intermittent on mine as well (with live 8).. firmware is a bitt annoying, in that note repeat only works if the mpd is your (unreliable) clock source.. they should have just put the whole sequencer on the firmware with voicing on the computer..

  • Hey man, I'm trying to decide on a MPD32 to use with Live 8. Are you still having headaches? Would you recommend it?

I've considered a mpc, but I use Live so much that I was hoping to hit two birds with one stone.

    thx

  • Great video. I'm planning on either getting the mpc 500 or mpd 32. All i really need to know though is, whether you can chop samples on the mpd 32. Also if it is compatible with a lot of different softwares. This will be my first purchase of this kind of equipment so your knowledge is appreciated. Thanks.

  • mpd is compatible with any software,mpc500 is not to easy to use for chopping

  • thanks

  • now for starting out making beats

would you say the MPD24 or MPD32

with Reason 4.0 would be a good buy?

  • if you are totally new with music production and trying things out i would go for a used cheap mpd24. 32 if you're a little more advanced and plan on doing live performance and such.

  • So youre saying buy a MPD24 rather then a 32? Im buying a MPK49 and a MPD24 off of Ebay, should I go for the 24 used or the 32 new? I mean Im not doing live performances but I like the note repeat function on the 32

  • If you're gettin an mpk49, you don't need the 32. the mpk has pads and note repeat. Don't waste ya bread.

  • I need to learn the feel of the MPC before I buy one, the MPK doesnt have that MPC feel, Ive fucked with the MPK49 at Guitar Center I wouldnt use the pads on the MPK, thats why Im getting the 32 with it

  • Im not advanced in using Pads to do beats but I am pretty good with my beat making, I want to buy a 32 for sampling...I have a 24 saved on Ebay, so you say the 24 is a better buy?

  • kool vid .. would you rather the mpk 49 over mpd 32 in this case?

  • Actually the MPK49 is great. If I didnt already have some keys, I'd go with the MPK49 in a heartbeat. I completely suggest it. The only downside is less pads, but honestly it's not that big of a complaint.

  • Ok , and also , are you able to chopp samples directly from the mpk49 like you can on the Native Instruments Maschine ( if youve seen that device).

  • it's different from the Maschine. You can 'chop' samples on just about any midi controller (just depends on your software), but it's not 'onboard' (via the display) like the Maschine is.

  • can some one tell me a bit about note repeat. ive ordered a 24, and considered a 32, but i guess im obligated now... with the very few features you mentioned here, can you briefly tell me a bit about them?

  • hey wat software do u use like REASON OR FL STUDIO, PRO TOOLS?

  • As far as the host workstations I use Ableton Live, Logic & Reason, but I also use a large amount of VST and AU plugins.

  • i like the background music =)

can you tell me the name of the tracks? thx

  • how is your last name ?

  • Really cool review.I just reviewed the review ! HA.thanks

  • I LOVE my mpd32. With Reason it's better than an MPC, hands down!

Check out my LIVE MPD BEATS!

  • nice one man, cheers for the review

  • Ordered one last week and should get it on my hands any minute now :)

Anyway I liked your review and especially the track that started in the end, could you tell me what it is??

    Thanks!

  • It was cool that you posted this video. I own a MPD 24 that I use in Reason 3, and to this day I am very happy with the whole setup and wouldn't change a thing. Thanks for comparing the gear even though I rather stick with the MPD 24

  • Yeah? thats good to know. what kind of stuff u producing ? if i may ask...

  • I do it all from moody Hip Hop beats to Electronic Down Tempo music. My influences are from artist like Enigma, Gangstarr, Dr. Dre, Metallica, Sarah Brightman etc. By the way have you seen the new MPD18?

  • i tried messing around with the mmc\midi settings, and the external time clock, but i just cant figure it out and am very fraustrated

  • hey man..i have the record mode, the pads dont respond well at all..sometimes i hit the pads when in record mode and the sound dont apear quick or not at all..and if i hit the pads quickly to trigger a sound, it seems every other hit on the pads are slow...can you help me with the using the transport with cubase and explain why my sounds in record mode dont rspond well..

  • nice setup man

    dang.

  • yo great review i jus bought one can you please tell me how to connect this thing to xp i keep getting errors thanx

  • lol, I just skipped by clicking alternatively... I got midi stuff here, mix, try your own, and the end splash, it looks aight.

  • they CANT be the same pads as on the 1000...the 1000 got 3/4 pads...every mpd got 4/4 pads!

  • he prolly means the material and feel. but u right on the 3/4 shit

    pz

  • He means the material of the Pads

    And the 1000 has 4x4 (16pads), its the 500 that has 3x4 (12pads)

  • do you think it's worth the extra cash rather then the 24?

  • for everything i do, yes.

  • No i just got the 24 its really easy

  • i saw that you've got ableton up on that screen...how does the mpd integrate with ableton? does it have presets for ableton? or do you have to map it out yourself?

  • i usually map everything myself. but if you have the newest update on live 7 then yea it has a preset.

  • Question. I notice when i use my Trigger finger and i have a chopped sample thats more than 16 chops. i can only use 16 chops period. You know how on like 25 key midi keyboards u can move the octaves to go higher and lower by just pressing octave buttons. Can u do that with the mpd32 so i can actually use more than 16 chops. Let me know. peace

  • yes! that's one of my favorite (and most useful) features. thats what the pad bank buttons are for. within any given preset on the controller there are actually 4 entirely different set's of pads you get by just selecting pad bank A, B, C or D. you can have each pad bank setup in octaves (like a keyboard), or you can go through and customize your pads so you have custom midi mappings over all 128 pads. the ease of switching on this feature was a huge deciding factor to get it.

  • Damn.... i don't know whhhhhhhy they didnt do that with these trigger fingers. looks like im gunna have to go out and get me one of these mpd 32s. thanks for the info dude! peace!

  • Excellent review for the most part, but your tone of voice makes it sound like you are about to fall asleep.

  • ya know thats funny. i actually passed out right after the camera stopped.

  • Awesome Man, Very Informative :) Cheers

  • Wussup man, I was wondering if you can record samplers on the MPD24. I was hearing you can't, get back at me!!

  • I just got one question. Im bout to cop a MPD, I just wanna know what is better, the MPD 32 or the MPD 24? I dont wanna cash out on the 32 if it does the exact same thing as the 24. What can a 32 do that a 24 cant?

  • basically the mpd32 has more faders, multiple control and pad banks within a user setup, note repeat and a bit more of a pro feel and layout. However, if it's your first drum pad controller or all you want is some pads to bang out a beat, save yourself some cash and get a mpd24.

  • Sweet! dooes it hook up to your pc with a USB? or how do you have it connected? and also does it have phantom power for the mic unputs?

  • What kind of mixing console is that next to your laptop?

  • Just a little Behringer Xenyx 802 Compact Mixer. Pretty handy to have in addition to any studio setup or even as a personal mixer if you only need a few channels. I think I picked that up for about $50. Built really great and has nice pre-amps too.

  • A few questions. What kind of desk is that and what kind of speakers are those? I love your setup.

  • desk is from IKEA. it's called GALANT. the speakers are made by KRK. google those, they're great.

  • CAN I UPLOAD SOUND TO THIS ITEM_

  • N! O! !

  • First off: excellent review. Second: have you compared the sensitivity/playability to any other controllers like the triggerfinger/padkontrol/mpd24? I hear the padkontrol is reeeeally sensitive but I'm not sure if people bashed the sensitivity of the mpd line because they just didn't know you could adjust it or what. Any opinions?

  • as far as playability, it comes down to personal preference on the actual feel of the pads for each unit. As I mentioned, I had a trigger finger, but sold it and got the mpd32. it's pads were very rugged but the faders on the trigger finger absolutely suck for performance. look up edit and the glitch mob though to see them rocking out on them.. regarding the korg padkontrol, feels very solid and nice, but no faders. overall, i wouldn't choose any other drum controller out there over the mpd32.

  • i had the mpd 24 and 32 ,but they far from being close to my mpc 2500^^ they say the 32 has the mpc 2500 pads,NOT TREU really cant compare the mpd to an mpc its just an controller so all ya want a mpc and think when i got the mpd i got an mpc =YOU WRONGG but for an midi controller they pretty cool

  • we've already addressed the pad topic, but i completely agree with you. people need to do some research and understand the differences.

  • Hey man can you tell me where you got that desk? Its exactly what I want.

  • IKEA - "Galant" desk. it's modular so you can design the desk however you desire :)

  • Thank you.

  • Really appreciate this, man. I'm in the market for a new piece of gear and I was looking for some real reviews of this piece.

    peace

  • im thinking about getting the mpd 32 but im a begginer and i want to know what other hardware do i need? or is it just the mpd and a computer?

  • yes. and music production software of course.

  • Question: can the mpd32 be used with fl studio7 and windows vista?

  • Why when I first saw this, I thought he was T-Boz from TLC when he first sat down. lol I'm like: damn TT making beats now lol

  • You know you wrong for that one lol!

  • Hi,

Could you tell me how the swing feature in this compares to other mpc's? Iv used many mpc swing templates in the past for logic/reason/guru and all are pretty lame compared to the swing in hardware mpcs.

Also what version of logic did you get free with this? Thank man

  • it depends on how you setup your DAW. and logic did not and does not come with the controller. (nor any other controller to my knowledge).

  • haha, sorry I meant what version of ableton comes with it (if it comes with it) ;)

Iv done a bit research and I think the swing function only works with the role feature.

  • can't remember. i own the newest version of ableton, so i didn't pay attention if it came with a lite or demo version of ableton. i know that it did come with bfd lite though which is good for drums.

  • dont understand why people want soft pads. real hand drums tend to have really hard playing surfaces (bongos are like slapping a sheet of glass, you need technique to avoid hurting yourself). triggerfinger pads are quite firm. how is the mpd for performing percussion parts?

  • i last question for you man

does this work/integrate well with Logic 8?

thanks , i appreciate your advice

  • yes, as with any midi controller, you can set it up with logic. Not sure if there are default mappings in Logic 8 but I usually make my own mappings anyway.

  • thanks for the review man def.v.useful!

i will use roland rd 700gx (digital piano + USB device) as my midi controller

how would u rate the akai mpd 32 with mpk 49 with novation Remote 61SL with the M audio axiom

axiom is cheapest but its pads are NOT velocity and pressure sensitive - they can be assigned as either or

mpk i hear is a bitch to program

novation is sick apparently with the automap feature

any advice for me interms a good midi controller (with keys)

  • If you're looking for something with keys and have the cash, go with the novation remote 61SL without a doubt but sounds like you've already got keys...

The MPD32 is great to complement it and want a specific dedicated controller (without keys). if you want a bit of both in one device, I highly recommend trying out the Akai MPK49 (it's awesome too).

It just depends on what you're looking for and what purposes you'll be using it. Message me if you want to know additional pro's + cons.

  • thx bro, i think im going for the mpd24. Also i was just wondering witch monitor is better the yamaha hs80m or the krk rokit8, thx

  • I have owned both and kept the HS80M, more accurate, but not as much low end as the Rokits =) Keep in mind though I did get the first run of the Rokit8's so I'm not sure if they changed them at all.
