Helvetin upeaa matskua, uus levy oli ensi kuulemalta hämentvä kokemus mutta nyt pidän sitä vuoden parhaimpana julkaisuna! Welcome back, yuo are the greatest and very powerfull bad ass punk/crust band ever!
CVLT Nation webzine is premiering the new Amebix single "Knights of the Black Sun" from their upcoming Sonic Mass album, tomorrow 6/7/11 12 noon PT...
I think but am not 100% that this gig was at the Bath Longacre and if so there is a good chance that i was on the same bill as played with the Amebix a few times in the 80's when with the Funneral party. I think maybe the Smart pills or Millatery surplus also may of played. If anyone can let me know were this was? inal art work from the Winter single with a full size of the man on the lamp post with the crows but sadly went missing in a house move.
Is it me or are the punks in the crowd pogoing when the song speeds up a little? Lol! Some how I don't think Amebix is the type of punk band you pogo to. The Adicts or Vice Squad yes. But Amebix? I don't know. Oh well, who really cares anyway? I'd probably be pogoing right with them.
this shits pretty sick...I love Amebix... but i hate the misconception of how there all political.... the where apart of the anarcho movement but where just kind of riding it the had great music but it was real no that political.... they where apart of a early crust type movement though
but mostly these guys i think could be called goth crust or something like that. they sound very dark wave to me and so also their looks is mostly gothic with some crustie traits
Also you cannot forget the heavy influence on them from the biker scene! It especially wreaks of the darker biker look mixed with that 1980's crust goth look! This vests are totally biker oriented! this video kicks soo much ass!
they were the first crust punk band. so there's no reason to put a hyphen near the genre lol. a lot of current crust is heavier or less ambient, but you can still clearly hear the influence of amebix. Especially in the newer strain of shit people like to call neo crust.
"Arise" still sends shivers down my spine everytime i put that album on. Funny thing is back in 1989 people were paying stupid money for Arise even though it was still available for 7$ from Alternative Tentacles
Truly those shivers are from deep expressions of awe, I feel the same way, unfortunately I did not have the privilege of living amongst Amebix in the 80's, I did see them live when they came to Toronto last May. It was an exhilarating show, and they sounded nearly identical to their 80's recordings. I am pretty surprised that people were paying a lot of money for Arise in 1989, was their merchandise more commercialized after they split up in the later 80's?
Amebix took inspiration from Motörhead (and to a lesser extent Lemmy-era Hawkwind), Black Sabbath, and Venom, combined with an ethos and worldview akin to Crass. They were also influenced by various post-punk and Gothic rock bands, including Public Image Ltd., Bauhaus, Joy Division, and especially Killing Joke.
I fuckin hate when people say they're punks adn they site Fall Out Boy. I swear to god I want to fucking puch them. Your nto punk in my opinion unless you know these bands:
I have nothing against goos straight edgers, but in these days there are many poseurs that go around saying "oh my god i like minor treath im straight edge" but they actually smoke and/or are fucking consumists...but real straight edge are good

boo why deprive yourself while everyone else mass consumes and indulges in lifes narcotic pleasures ...its not like your going to change the world because youre sober or a vegan... if you really wanna do something to save the world kill yourself lol cause its futile and a waste of effort unless your going to lock yourself inside a box never drive anywhere hold down a job or wear modern clothing... and i dont wanna hear its better to try than do nothing.because really...its not
Haven't you heard? Punk rock is about only liking things that other people don't like! It's about choosing a genre and movement that hasn't been relevant or important in twenty years as your primary means of self-definition instead of simply enjoying the music you enjoy! It's about mohawks and no-mohawks and how much or how few tattoos you have or how many drugs you do or do not do! Woo! Punk rawk! Keep on fighting the good fight!
Human beings invent labels. Then they cling to groups for identity. You can blame all of human history for that.
The message & attitude of this music to me seems far more relevant & long lasting today than a plethora of music trends that have bitten the dust in 20 years.
Grunge, hip-hop, crunk, indie, twee, Nü-metal. yeah. I'd hardly call punk a failure in light of those "movements".
Let's see here... A musical subculture based around rebellion and social indignation which started in the late seventies and continued through to the modern era, which at some point became a marketing tool designed to sell manufactured revolution to kids too stupid to realize they're being played...
The previous definition applies, of course, to both hip-hop and punk rock. The difference? The consumers. Underprivileged black kids vs. suburban white kids.
Lolz @ believing punk rock isn't relevant in modern music. Punk rock completely changed the way radio rock bands played. Contemporary rock n roll is still minimalistic, angsty, and power chord driven. Just because the 'punk' label isn't thrown on modern alternative rock or because 'real' punx wouldn't be caught dead listening to MCR or Green Day doesn't change the fact that punk rock is the main contributor to the formula of those bands.
Hey man, I'm hip to the jive, as the kids say. Why do you think I typed "Amebix" in the search bar? I just thought it was hilarious how many people were arguing in the comments section about what was and was not punk rock, having attached their identities so completely to a genre of music which descended into self-mockery a long time before most of these cats were born. Just trying to get these kids to laugh at themselves.
Laura Nyro, and preformed by Blood, Sweat and Tears, I wasnt critising the song, Amebix are one of my favorite bands and this, beyond the sun and right to ride are my favorite songs by them!
I think the scandi HC bands Anti Cimex, Asocial and Avskum are forerunners too, I mean they sounded like crust before crust existed, around the time Antisect and Amebix started releasing recs...
Just about, I suppose. They came out of the Bristol hardcore anarcho squatty scene; the first album (lots of which can be downloaded free at Alternative Tentacles) was grittier and less metal musically. The second LP was right at the beginning of the metal / punk crossover. They stood head & shoulders over eveyone around at that time, in my opinion. I even wrote to them & they replied. Seemed like nice people too.
their first album wasnt that bad.this album did and still kicks ass.the confusion among my spikey headed freinds was turned to total acceptance of a being all of its own..AMEBIX.ARISE!too bad so short lived.

I think Agnostic, Threat and Brains are pretty boring. I liked them a lot before though. In my view, you are no punk if you don't know:
Antisect
Anti Cimex
Antischism
and well a lot others. the swedish band No Security
