I'm 6'2", 215, and 65. Had an XL back in '96. That bike did everything, took it on a 500 mile road trip, then rode Stumpjumper enduro with it 2 weeks later.

Looking for a new one again before next Spring.

here's the coolest thing, it only took 5 minutes and 30 seconds to leave his driveway, ride to the woods somewhere on public roads and then come back.

Try doing that with a 2 stroke.

5'10" 230 lbs. you will still squat the suspension to bring the seat height down a bit. Might be on your toes a bit, but I think you would be ok. You can always look at a suspension lowering kit.

I'm 6' 1" and 220lbs. This bike fits me excellent in stock form.

It is a very tall bike, it's like falling off a horse when you spill it!

Most people shorter than about 5' 10" to 6' and less than 180lbs are gonna have trouble riding this thing without a lowering link.

For heavier guys like us, your weight helps compress the suspension.

I LOVE my 650l. Its a dirt bike with the legal status of the streets, that constantly asks me to take that dirt road to see where it goes...... And, that's the experience you'l have!!!

650R is the enduro race bike. 650L is the duel sport more for street, and can be licensed.

no but to legally ride in most places you would need a registration,insurance and a license. if you want to ride off road with out those things you can try some enduro's and hare scramble races which are a hell of a lot of fun.riding an XR650L will definately work the muscles more than a smaller purpose built off road bike.these things are heavy for real off roading.

There is nothing like trails... i ride them on my crf450 in australia.. the ones you are riding on look exactly like them... is there a reason youre not ripping it up?... is it like a national park or something.. or youre just a responsible rider =)

mine is stock and gets about 45-50 mpg, depends on your riding style and naturally highway miles will get you better mpgs

Cool. Looks like a fun place to ride. I've got an XT 225, and I'm thinking about eventually upgrading to an XR650L because I've really liked the bike a lot since I first saw it and sat on it. Looks like it hauls arse. I have to shift my XT twice to get through an intersection with stock sprockets haha. How does the height work out for street riding? I'm just about 6ft tall, but it still seemed a bit tall for me. Maybe I have short legs for my height? :)

depends on what your inseam is ( leg length )

i am 6 foot but have a 29 inch inseam ( short legs ) i own a KLR650 and my feet barely touch the ground when i am at a light, im on "tippy toes" so to speak, and i know for a fact the XR650l has a higher seat height than a KLR650, you may want to adjust the suspension for a lower seat height if you get an XR . have fun !! :)

I am like 5 9 with short legs. I have an XT225 as well. After I put about 3,000 miles on the 225 the XR650L is a cake to ride, I can thrash it around pretty well too. Height doesn't matter I guess if you're experienced.

I didnt dyno the bike, but there is an increase. Maybe check out some forums, you might find more out. Hope this helps.
