does it have to be that you find two numbers that multiply together to make 48 and SUBTRACT to make 2, or can it be that the two numbers ADD to make 2 as well?
YOU ARE MY SAVIOUR, i hav a math exam tomorrow and this guy just covered my entire semester in one hour, only one thing can you please put all your similar lessons in a playlist cause its easier to keep track of Please and Thank you!!! :)
@dannyleeg Sorry teacher, but there is nothing illegal about this method! It is the quickest method if the quadratic can be factored easily. If it is a harder quadratic or one that cannot be factored (or if you are poor at factoring), then the methods to use are graphing (if you have a graphing calculator) or the quadratic formula.
dude your good, you should seriously tutor in real life, this helps, I'm in grade 11 math and I usally get confused between what kind of factoring (difference of square, reugular so forth) that I have to do
your explaining is very accurate, nicely done, very clear, and you used different colours to make it easier to understand what you did and what to concentrate on. You saved me :)
Great method of teaching factoring quadratics, this is 1000x better than the "trial and error" method that's been taught in middle and high schools for so many years. Thanks for posting this.
When you move the 48 over you should stress the idea of equality. All you are really doing is subtracting both sides of the equation by 48. While it may seem insignificant now, when you need to manipulate the equation with things like square roots it becomes a lot less trivial.
Thank you for posting this video. I was having a hard time with factoring since my orginal algerbra teacher that moved up from 2nd grade didn't have a clue how to teach factoring or the quadratic formula. I am now in algrebra two and this was very helpful. Thank you again!

@dannyleeg that is horrible. A mathematician without this technique would be at a great loss in equation solving.

after you factor the equation and get
(r+8)(r-6)= 0
and you come up with the two different answers..
is that called the "zero principal"?
im going over my notes from last year and i cant remember exactly what the "zero principal" is.
dancer5611 3 years ago
If they equal to zero, the one f the factors has to be zero. Multiplications of zero always contain a zero.
