Kinda strange teacher. He is misleading the novice players that a power chord is a quint/fifth interval when in fact it is a fifth + added the root note from the second octave! So he is wrong. Maybe he doesn't know that power chords are not real chords too...

so its either, eBGDAE or dAFCGD.

Drop d is a diff tuning and u generally bar the top 3 strings in that tuning- eBGDAD
