please define a skateboard for me, I'm 100% sure what James is riding in this video uses all the same components which are made out of the same materials as your generic "skateboard."

The wheels are a larger diameter and lower durometer than usual, but they are still made of urethane.

The trucks have wider hangers than usual, but they are still cast in a mold with cheap pot-metal.

The plywood is pressed in a mold with more aggressive curves than usual, still a skateboard.

This is something that I've been pondering as well. As far as I can tell, there doesn't seem to anything that would significantly distinguish longboards from other skateboards. Some longboarders (in my experience) seem to resent being grouped together with other skateboarders and I've been wondering whether it is this that makes them insist that longboarding isn't a kind of skateboarding.
