I read over on BibleDesignBlog a guy spilled water all over his ESV1, damaging it. Just as a long shot he called Allan Bible's about replacement. ESV1's were out of stock, so they sent him a complimentary ESV3!
Sigh. I can't make up my mind... ESV or NASB (I kind of lean toward the NASB a bit). Black or 'chocolate' brown... I'm sure whatever I end up deciding on I'll love it.
i faced the same problem. I had to use the ESV though because when i preached out of the NASB i would fumble over my words so i went back to my good ole 8th grade reading level version ;)
I ended up ordering a NASB Pitt Minion black goatskin leather Bible from Cambridge. It took 6 long weeks for it to arrive but finally arrived Monday. And wow... I can see why J. Mark Bertrand at Bible Design Blog likes Pitt Minions. It is by far the nicest Bible I've ever owned. Sigh... I'm hooked on premium Bibles now. :P
oh yeah, the "defects" are not actually defects or mistakes. It's is the goat's encounter with rough material, or the makers could have accidentally chipped it. Most likely the first one though...
Regarding the "defect"... The highland goatskin cover from Allan is a solid piece of leather that shows the actual, original skin, as opposed to most Bibles have the leather stamped with a grain pattern. So, it could be that the goat that produced this skin for your BIble might have caught it's skin on some barbed wire or a thorn which produced your "defect." Adds to the uniqueness and character of your Bible. Nice choice. I've had a black ESV1 for a couple of years now. It's my favorite Enjoy!

Yes, Allan use the genuine goatskin grain complete with irregularities. This means no two are exaclty the same.

how is the highland goatskin on RL allen bibles compared to the goatskin on cambrdige bibles?

Interesting. I had the previous printing but sold it because of the bleedthrough on the paper. Yours looks better than that one did.
