This is where I commented you had shots long before this, understand I'm not in anyway being rude just that I know from guiding & my own experiences. As soon as first deer dropped it's head or looked away it should be dead. It is good you missed as you were way to far back. If you can, let front leg move forward. My crossbow deer last season had his leg back & despite aiming right behind it my arrow hit one lung & liver due to angle. Never went far but still another lesson for me.

This video shows how much one animal life really costs. An investment on hours of waiting in suspense could be wasted by just one missed shot. An animal escapes, not meat tonight for caveman. Today, we get steak anywhere. Humans waste so many lives like falling leaves in meat the industry. It's scary how humans are the best at depleting resources.

nice job, but if you want a greater likely hood of a kill, make a broader arrow head. the wider it is the faster is will bleed out. and please dont cut down saplings just for a cammo.
Can you tell me a tip to being quiet? I have trouble being extremely quiet especially with crunchy leaves or snow. I don't want to scare the game away
@ilikessubway You have to move very very slowly. Slowly compress the leaves, then when the leaves are pushed down you can step forward. But you have to move very slowly.
@primitivepathways When you put your foot down don't go fingers first and then roll entire foot as you would roll a ball. Instead put it flat at once... so if there is a crack noise it will be only one not several. At least that's the way I learned to walk back in time and still utilize it when I'm in woods.

I know how it feels to miss, and I'm extremely hard on myself too, so I understand the little punch to the head. haha I did the same thing when I missed a huge 8 point last year. I was sick for about a week...
I am planning on hunitng rabbit and squirrel, and i want to do it the traditional way with a primitive bow. although i have only had little training shooting at a target 20 yds away is it worth the time, or should i just stick to my 22... also what draw weight would be the best for this matter.
@LinnLasagne It depends on how much it pulls. bows pulling 40 lbs and up are adequate for big game, although you will want to be as close as possible to the animal.
@tememoth Yeah, move very slowly and quietly, practice shooting your bow a lot, and scout your hunting area a lot to determine where the deer are moving so you can set up on them.

I am not against hunting for survival, like Eskimos hunt polar bear and use almost ALL of the polar bear... except the liver...
they eat the flesh, bury the liver, and use the fur for clothing. The liver contains a high dosage of vitamin A... which is poisonous...
it's hunting for fun which I don't like... and I don't like the ugly-looking steel arrows that you get in shops...
primitive and survival for me! it's not such a big waste of money...

You gotta aim low. When the deer takes off, she first crouches to get a good push off. That's why you shot over her. Next tome, she's dinner.

I am planning on hunitng rabbit and squirrel, and i want to do it the traditional way with a primitive bow. although i have only had little training shooting at a target 20 yds away is it worth the time, or should i just stick to my 22... also what draw weight would be the best for this matter.

@Bushinit002 A .22 is great for small game, but if you want to do it the hard way, then I say string up your bow and try to shoot one with it!!

@LinnLasagne It depends on how much it pulls. bows pulling 40 lbs and up are adequate for big game, although you will want to be as close as possible to the animal.

@tememoth Yeah, move very slowly and quietly, practice shooting your bow a lot, and scout your hunting area a lot to determine where the deer are moving so you can set up on them.
