  • Lol...at 03:31 the scoreboard reads SL 4/2000...incredible!!

  • Represented a minnow team from 80's to mid-nineties and what he achieved was exceptional for a sub-continental player. Most of the time he played alone and tried his best at least to carry his team to the vicinity of victory. Real Match winner.

Can anyone pinpoint a couple of innings of Tendulkar without support but still helped India to win???

  • thanks for the upload man...my dad never shuts up about how awesome aravinda is, good to see more of than just the 96 world cup final lol

  • Fantastic video again Rob! What I like most about this particular innings is that Aravinda despite being a naturally attacking player, took 246 balls (almost 6 hours) to make his hundred. These days players just don't tough it out, the Indian batting in recent times is a classic example. Aravinda's first century came against Pakistan in 1985 and included three hooked sixes off Imran Khan (when the great man was at his peak). As Dean Jones would say this guy was good enough to be an Aussie!

  • Wow...What a graceful batsman to watch. Too good!!!

  • Thumbs Up if you would rather watch this innings on YouTube than watch a live cricket match!

  • @rikaz77 Old is gold, always man!!!!!!

  • @robelinda2 bet you say that to all the girls at the RSL...

  • @celt999 LOL! I can say Ive only been to an RSL once, about 12 years ago, I was playing guitar in a 50's rock n roll band, the crowd were so old, it was kinda funny.

  • He is my cricket hero... Best batsman ever we had... That's why once Arjuna Ranatunge said that any one comes after him will do 80% of his work... No one will match him...

  • 3:30 the highest score ever in test cricket!

  • one of the best player's of the hook shot, no batsman in the modern days game, plays the hook as good and as consistently as Aravinda desilva

  • aravinda on fire

  • WoW! One for the Gods.

  • You dont often see Asian batsmen so comfortable hooking and pulling like this guy

  • 4:22

ROFL! I nearly cried from laughing. Retarded looking run up with that funny mustache

  • What a player.... I think the calculated majestic hook shot died with the retirement of Aravinda.

  • @MageMangix Agree, magnificent player.

  • @MageMangix haha........beautifully phrased.

  • Anyone who knows this guy as a player would tell you the truth about this player.... He's simply an amazing

  • I rate Aravinda above Sachin.. Aravinda is simply too good and better than Sachin, This simple handedly won games for Sri Lanka

  • @JFK2684 you seems to hv good sense of humor.

  • @intellectseeker Well you seem to like it....

  • Great, great player right there. I don't give a flying **** what the statistics say about his average or (in)ability to convert starts or any other drivel. Anyone who's seen them live would know that players of the quality of De Silva, Hooper, Richardson and Alec Stewart are in a different league completely their own.

No one has played pace with as much ease and time on their hands as these men. For an 80s batsman from the sub-continent, De Silva was exceptional.

  • check it out SriLanka 4 for 2000 at 03:30 lolzzz

  • @rebelx4life you are very much welcome sir!

  • @Fahad1000ful but with out Aravinda De Silva can't read about sri lankan cricket, still the best batsman ever produce for sri lankan cricket no dout about that..same as with out Don Bradman can't read about world cricket..thats why...i sayed ..de silva is the bradman of sri lankan cricket.......

  • He is a bradman of sri lankan cricket

  • @wishwacom he is not bradman because every one is not bradman

  • truly a great great batsman......

  • Aravinda had his own batting way and he faced every fast bowlers .In a situation like srilanka had many wkts lost, Aravinda with out pressure taking the game in to his shoulders and carried the game till win.Any bowlers couldn`t stop his aggressiveness. That z why I rate him as a real cricket hero ... Every one can`t be cricket hero.No two words about dat , he can still play very well than many players... His batting features were ` placing the ball, smashing and etc....................

  • @humbledorf, Tendulkar is much like Warne in that he's massively overhyped. In the Diana match you mention, Aravinda outbatted Tendulkar against the real bowlers. Tendulkar scored almost half his runs off Sohail and McMillan. Take that away and you'll see that his scoring rate against the real bowlers was mediocre at best. I'll refer you to Prem Pannicker's review of the event on Rediff.com.

  • @ihamoitc2005 Way too much is made of that charity match, it was a casual hit out, none of the bowlers were really running in, it was all for a good cause. At no stage though was Sachin bating as good as Aravinda, Sachin smacked around the average bowlers but Aravinda was superb.

  • @ihamoitc2005 Hmmm the guy has a paltry average against the best team in Australia, 38, and sachin's over hyped mid 50s. What a hype.

  • @ihamoitc2005,

Sachin was the best in terms of personal run scores. But there were plenty of other batsmen who were better match winners than him. At least in my opinion. Men like Brian Lara, Aravinda De Silva, Inzamam ul Haq etc

  • @sonofthedestroyer U forgot to mention VIv richards Steve waugh & Javed Miandad! :O

  • @humbledorf avearge do not suggest everthing about batting. if you take sangakara for example his average is very impressive against the countries you mentioned. As a Sri Lankan i have watched both of them for many years. But i have to say Aravinda is way better than Sanga. He can handle guys like wasim & mc grath as good as lara & sachin.I only rate Aravinda behind Lara/ Tendulaka because he lacked decipline. He picks the ball very early. Watch the video he smashes brett lee

  • @ihamoitc2005 i agree he lacked discipline. He can tackle many fast bowlers without any probelms. Even wasim admmited that he was one of the batesman who handled him with relative ease. But every now & then he play a monkey a shot and get out.

  • Wider range of strokes than Tendulkar but lacking discipline. From 96 to 97, when he was able to hold it together, at a time when Sachin and Lara were at the peak of their powers, Aravinda was widely regarded by many commentators, including Garfield Sobers, as the best batsman in the world. He was also, for most of his career, considered the best player of the hook and pull. Ponting took the mantle only after Aravinda's abilities had declined.

  • @ihamoitc2005 : Jingoistic nonsense!!! Aravinda was a very good batsman, not great unlike Tendulkar or Lara - what's his average in/against England/Aus/SAf? Think before you write dude. He might have been extremely impressive in patches, that is where it ends. See the Lady Diana memorial match where he plays a second fiddle to Tendulkar. I don't think any commentator - even a Lankan one would have called him ahead of Tendulkar/Lara

  • @humbledorf have you even seen that match? I was watching it live and tendulkar played and missed soooooooooo many times. Aravinda walked in and hit everything in the middle of the bat. I'm not saying Aravinda is better than Tendulkar. But on that day he was. After Tendulkar won the man of the match for making a century that day he said "watching Aravinda bat from the non striker end was one of the best experiences of his life and it gave him the confidence to go for his shots". I rest my case.

  • @humbledorf ;What's Tendulkar batting avg in Big Final?

  • What a batsman....

  • Aravinda De Silva is as good as sachin!
